Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 Not good news for Jays fans who want Scherzer at the deadline, or for fans of baseball in general. Checks DFS lineup. Yep, of course I had him. Thanks for the one out Max (and get well soon)
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 Anyone else watching the Mets game? DeGrom is doing absolutely unspeakable things to the Padres.

BTS Community Moderator Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 DeGrom flexor tendinitis I don’t think people can sit 100 with a slider at 93 and make 32 starts a year.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 I imagine they just use like, a teeny tiny bit of the residue of the stuff on the pressure point of their spin finger(s). That's what I figured.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 That's why I don't see it happening. New TV deals kick in starting in 2022, it will be full capacity from the jump, and chances are expanded playoffs will be negotiated into any deal so the owners have a lot of incentive to have the season. The players obviously do as well. After all the losses in 2020 and likely some loss in 2021, no one benefits from a work stoppage. My guess is there will be an ugly, public, and completely nauseating public fight between the two sides but they'll ultimately agree to something at the last minute. Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part but money will eventually win out in the end. I sure hope you're right.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 When do the Angels start using Shohei in the OF, he's likely a 5 tool OF'er also, lol. He's so good. IIRC... he said he's willing to rep in the OF. Having him stuck to DH seems unfair. Seriously though???
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 Soto and VGJ are going to terrify pitchers for many years to come. Their plate discipline IS the reason why. It's a god damn art what these guys do, and are so young, lol.

If you're going to play Ohtani in the field and limit his throwing it can pretty much only be at first base.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 You think so? I can't see why not, really? Because if he's throwing 97-99 in his starts for 5-6 innings and then having to make long throws from the outfield in his non pitching days it could f*** up his arm. He's already not the most durable guy at this stage in his career.

Probably could do some type of schedule where his OF days line up with days he'd typically be throwing anyway, in pitching side sessions. Pitch, DH, RF, RF, DH, Pitch, and repeat.

I totally understand that, but if you're the Angels you already have this guy who can barely stay healthy while DH'ing 3-4 days a week. I don't think you can take the chance. The second idea is cool, I could see something like that implemented at least one day a week where it's basically just a long toss day for him.

Nah, he hits almost everyday, even on pitch days, dude's a beast.
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 So spin rates are down across the board - Bauer, Cole, Bieber, Burnes, others, and all these "elite" SP are getting rocked. I don't know what is real anymore. This f***ing game.

First Tier in no particular order (well somewhat ) Vladdy Tatis Jr Acuna Ohtani
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 See, it's tempting to put Guerrero #1. It seems like a complete homer move since Soto has been an offensive monster since 2018 and Acuna and Tatis are incredible two-way players, but Vladdy right now is performing at a level that none of the other three have ever reached over the long term. Perhaps within a season one of them has, I haven't checked. Basically, he may be significantly better than both Tatis and Acuna offensively and with his re-found athleticism and surprising defensive prowess at 1B the gap in secondary skills may be smaller than people think. Vlad right now: 4.1 fWAR, on 150 game pace for 9.76 fWAR Soto: 4.9 fWAR in best season (2019), 7.66 fWAR in 2020 projected out to 150 games Acuna: 5.6 fWAR in bet season (2019), 7.83 fWAR in 2020 projected out to 150 games Tatis: 150 game extrapolated fWARS are 7.65 (2021) 7.37 (2020) 6.42 (2019)
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 lol, the Yankees lineup in yesterday's game against the Phillies didn't have a single batter hitting for a .750 OPS or better.
