Reports are circulating stating Correa and his agent’s contract expectations are “nothing less than Lindors 340 million”

Realistic expectation or just lip service?

I don't know what team would do that

There always seems to be at least one

I think he'll get it from the Tigers based on rumors of their interest in him. They apparently want to make a big splash this winter.

I see it as the Tigers, and that price isn't far off what MLBTR think at 320. I'd say it's realistic.

Really feels like this is the kind of pitcher that gets dog-f***ed in their salary. 3 Win pitchers are decidedly worth more than 12 per year. Sure, you wouldn't pay them 20... but 12?

Either that or he pigeonholed himself to SF, which is prob the case

Seems like a fair deal to me. He's had up and down years. He's headed into his age 32 season. There's been a few injuries. Steamer has him at 1.9 wins next year. Matz should probably get the same deal.

If anyone puts Papi on the ballot and not A-Rod or Bonds, they should have their voting privileges removed...and possibly be killed as well.

Can't agree more. The hypocrisy would be beyond stunning...which means it will probably happen.

Yeah. There's always some downside hedging with the guys in the middle that the guys at the top never seem to suffer from though. It's like if you're a solid 3, you cant get paid your actual value because a team will say they have to protect against you pitching like a 5.... then you leave money on the table, and never get the chance to get it back unless you suddenly become a 1... then they fall all over themselves to pay you 30 million per year, injury risk be damned.

Even calculating win value at 8 million per year... projecting at 2 ... he would be worth 16 million, but he's forced to leave 4 million on the table because of the downside hedging. Then he pitches a 3 WAR season again, and ends up having left even more on the table. Where's the part that's built in the contract that gives him more money if he pitches way better? Why do players have to put with the owner's hedging on the possible downside without also getting something back if they outpitch it?

This is why I never begrudge players for getting whatever they can, when they can; because the system is set up to favour the owners at every stop.

Yeah, sometimes players willingly take discounts because of familiarity with a team, or they just don't care that much about the difference between 12 million and 14 million when they already have 30 million in the bank.

Actually A-Rod, while linked as much as Bonds and Clemens, deserves his own classification as he was caught/suspended on 2 sep occasions. At least Papi/Bonds/Clemens were B-sample type situations. Put them all in but A-Rod! Dude’s doucheyness should keep him out alone

Sources: Dbacks among teams in mix for free-agent reliever Kirby Yates, who missed all of 2021 after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery on March 24. Yates, 34, likely will command a two-year deal, with teams banking on his full return to health in the second year.

Still can't believe we wasted 4.5 million on a guy who failed his physical. Getting a good closer/bullpen arm last offseason was the difference between us making/missing the playoffs. He should be coming back to us as a favour of good will lol.

The only reason he signed for that little was because he failed his physical...

Deadpool you boring mofo- I saw a perfect opportunity thread to air my internet grievances and you shut it down.. I needed to complain about making the mistake of clicking on a “Elizabeth Hurley hot in a bikini at 50+” one time and now my news feed is dominated by former sex symbols 50+ looking hot. Also Will Smith (actor), clicked on an article once, now whenever he sneezes, I can’t avoid seeing it on my news feed

That actually wasn't me! I mean, I fully support the decision to punt all spammy dickfaces to the moon, but I am not strictly to blame here... If only because I didn't see it first.

I wonder what a 2 year deal for Yates looks like?

If it's not too expensive I'd love to see the Jays get in on that.

2 years $5 million total?

As long as we could structure it where he doesn't take up a 40 man (or 60 day DL - Since there are times when those have to be returned to the 40 man briefly and could cause us to have to waive someone we otherwise wouldn't want to waive) slot, which I assume would have to be a minor league deal.

Yeah the reason he signed for what he did was because he was hurt, and the Jays signed him anyway on the chance he would remain healthy. I mean, I guess it had high reward and the cost was minor, but if his physicals look like s*** to the point where other teams are backing off, then the risk is clearly much higher than any reward. Hopefully this year when Atkins buys low on relievers it will be RP's coming off down years, and not RP's who can't pass physicals. Relievers are volatile enough as it is. If you know one of them is hurt before they put pen to paper, then it's probably not the best risk to take.

I think you're discounting the fact that Yates was one of the best (top 5) relievers in baseball in 2018 and 2019. The reward was absolutely massive, but, evidently, there was a lot of risk we wouldn't get much out of him. The risk in terms of $$$'s wasn't prohibitive at all. Yates was a lottery ticket man - nothing more.

Great move for Tampa, and probably not that bad for Franco compared to other long extensions that young players usually sign. Mookie Betts made about $60m in years 0-6 before free agency. Even if you bumped Franco up to $70m, that means he gave up 6 years of FA years for $153m ($25.5m AAV). Likely well below market value if he's as good as expected, but not Acuna levels of "I'll give up my prime for a hamburger".

Usually I'd hate one of the game's young stars signing with that poverty franchise, but they'll probably be in Montreal (or somewhere else) soon enough, so probably a good thing in the long run.

11 years, 185.

Option for a 12th year to take it to 223 million per passan

Our front office would easily give that to Bo and Vlad right now if they wanted this right?

Does anyone know what the actual contract would work out for his free agent years (assuming he got near the top end for all arb years).
