Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Yes. Trading your franchise player in the middle of a playoffs run would be insane. Is Bautista even a top 5 player on the Blue Jays anymore? I doubt it.
skirbs11 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Only way I see it is if it's a 3 team trade. Bautista to nationals Prospects from nationals to team "x" Pitching from team "x" to the Jays.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Is Bautista even a top 5 player on the Blue Jays anymore? I doubt it. Perhaps not, but it's a realistic scenario that he will be the best player for the rest of the season. That's why you have to keep him.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2016 Author Posted July 28, 2016 Is Bautista even a top 5 player on the Blue Jays anymore? I doubt it. Donaldson, Edwin, Saunders, Sanchez, Estrada, Happ, Tulo,..... Osuna?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Is Bautista even a top 5 player on the Blue Jays anymore? I doubt it. Good question Sanchez Osuna Donaldson Tulo Edwin Are all probably better (though it's hard to compare a RP to an everyday player) Still don't trade him unless it's for something of immediate help elsewhere for the big league club and I just don't see that happening.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 No way this happens. - The Jays and Nationals are both in the playoff hunt. No reason Bautista isn't just as valuable to us right now. - Jays get a comp pick if he leaves at end of the year. Nationals would not get that. - Did you see what Bautista did for this city in 2015 in the playoffs?
admin Site Manager Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 It wouldn't happen, but I'd be fine with trading him. I don't understand why everyone is getting so worked up about the possibility of moving him. He's a liability on defense, so he's only useful as DH. If someone wants to give a big haulf or him, why not? It's not like we're missing him in the lineup. Well some games we are, but we are fine without him. Nathionals have some damn fine prospects.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I agree. I think something happened with Bautista and management regarding using him more at DH and he didn't like it. The trade for Upton even further ignited his displeasure. The move yesterday by losing our DH instead of putting Bautista at 1B and Upton in RF is solely based on Gibby not wanting to put Bautista in a bad place. Yup and I wonder if people know this but Bautista takes ground balls on the infield everyday at both First and Third. He says it keeps him prepared and sharp. So Gibbons can't really use the he didn't get any reps excuse. I doubt Junior Lake got any reps at 1B when he came in. And if you're healthy enough to play RF you're healthy enough to play 1B.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I didn't watch yesterday's game. What is this s*** about Jonny? Upton was used as a PH for Smoak. Everyone thought the logical move would be to put Upton in RF and have Bautista take over 1B for the rest of the game. Nope. Gibby put Edwin at 1B (thus giving up the DH for the rest of the game) and took Upton out of the game.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 2 of Giolito/Turner/Robles/Lopez plus Kieboom (name alone is 2 WAR) or gtfo
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Trade him if you can't re-sign him. However, if I am him I veto any trade.

STLJaysFan Verified Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Bautista shouldn't ever be in the National League unless a team is going to make him a full time first baseman. Encarnacion moved from 3rd base to 1st base and DH for the better of the team so why can't Bautista. He doesn't sound like much of a team player.
Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I would think long and hard over a Turner/Giolito swap for him
fireballW Verified Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Because it earns him more money in free agency. Wth are you talking about. Toronto is his best chance to earn more money in free agency.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I hope Bautista has a great last two months of the season (and hopefully playoffs) but in a way his season has been very fitting. There was so much optimism heading into Spring Training this year and Bautista starts the spring off by ripping ownership, talking about wanting 5/150, talking about how he can defy aging, etc, causing a distraction for no reason. On the flip side, Edwin expressed interest in staying but left it up to whatever happens. Fast forward four months, and Edwin's having a great season with the bat while Bautista has a lower WAR than Melvin Upton while not being able to defend his position or stay on the field. Keeping it classy is the way to go, and Bautista has found that out the hard way.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Nobody is suggesting trading him for a C prospect. Bautista would probably return two top 100 prospects if he was dealt. Maybe two prospects in the 50-100 range. Nobody is giving up an A prospect, whatever you define that as, for 2 months of Bautista. Price (unquestionably worth more than Bautista) basically took only Norris to get. Obviously markets change every year but you'd be pretty shortsighted to give up any top prospect for him.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Were on the verge of having the best attendance in 25 years, leading the AL in attendance, and you guys are okay with the trading the face of the Franchise.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 News like this disrupts the chemistry of the team. We need to chase down Baltimore and go after the World Series. Not this.

Norris was a top 20 prospect and Boyd was a fringe MLB starter. Its also a stretch to say Price is "unquestionably" more valuable. Bautista has been more valuable than Price in the past.

At 35 years old, to get back 2 top 100 prospects, it's not even something you think twice about. Especially if you are flipping him to the NL. Guess what, he's a FA at the end of the season also.
