ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 The vikings are putting in that ETFE roof the first in a North American Stadium I believe, this is how it's supposed to handle snow I don't know how the RC would handle it but I'm sure they could figure something out So this is the same material they used for the video roofs on the olympic stadiums I was talking about. It is an inflatable roof and can handle the snow load, but is not retractable meaning the RC roof could no longer open and close. I don't know if that is a solution then since the retractable roof is kind of what separates the Rogers Center from being a giant rec center. Will be interesting to see how they do this.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 They should build a stadium that transforms into a crime fighter when not being used.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 They should build a stadium that transforms into a crime fighter when not being used. I like this idea, but only if that crime fighter takes the form of Ted Rogers.
labadee Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Is there any plans to do something to the exterior often building?im not sure how feasible it would be as the concrete is what is supporting the building but it certainly looks a bit dated
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Well this would be best to ask all those the marijuana grow-op operators in the city. Better if you employ them all. After they finish police can round them up in the worlds greatest sting operation. lol! I'm not sure what would be so great about that. they are wayyyy to far away I figured as much.
Rajais Mitten Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 As you can tell I did this really quick but why not just paint the concrete blue paint on a jays logo like I did, maybe add some other stuff on the outside and it already looks better to me than the plain concrete http://i.imgur.com/97ynJLU.jpg
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 The rule for opening and closing the roof for all stadiums should be this: if the weather would force the cancellation of the game, the roof will be closed. For all other instances the roof shall remain open.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 it should be like that inside. I'm not sure if the dark blue color would work on the outside, since it would stand out very terribly in a downtown urban environment
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I dunno, maybe, but not necessarily. God forbid people be hot in the summer though, lol. F that man. A controlled, comfortable environment should be preferred by all fans. I think they should shut the damn roof in the summer sometimes. Nobody enjoys baking in the sun on a 30 degree day. Cancer sucks.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I've always wondered why they didn't do a dirt infield all this time, It wouldn't be that difficult and the benefits for the infield players would be huge. Also yes 100% to the bigger seats.[/QUT I believe they said that with the Argos and other events in there it wouldve been too much to remove/replace the infield every time. Not sure why they wouldnt just rake it down and cover it during those events, or just have the argos play on top of it...but with them leaving the venue, looks like we'll enter the 19th century finally with a dirt infield. Christ - aren't there NFL teams (Raiders?) who play in stadiums that hold MLB games? If the NFL can play on that type of setup, surely to go the Argos can.

I don't know, but that concrete is meh.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 They definitely need to revitalize the outside of the stadium. The south west corner of the stadium (near Bremner and spadina) is so bland. I know they do concerts there but its so ugly. More statues on the southeast side (only statue is Ted Rogers... Stupid). Fix the freaking waterfalls Make an area where food trucks can easily park. Even tho this might cut into their revenue inside it'll enhance the experience and more people will come down to the dome. I'm fine with the colour scheme outside. The roof looks so sexy when it's all lit up at night. Just re-paint the concrete.

Bring a hat, wear sunscreen, bring water.

Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 More statues on the southeast side (only statue is Ted Rogers... Stupid). Specifically of these two moments: http://www.cbc.ca/sports-content/baseball/opinion/assets_c/2012/09/620-roberto-alomar-thumb-620xauto-226976.jpg http://www.kimplicity.com/fkim/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/mlb_g_carter01_412.jpg I was also thinking, if Toronto ever bid on an Olympics, that the Blue Jays could use that as a chance to get a new stadium. And if Toronto actually won a bid, they absolutely would need a new stadium. When Atlanta hosted the Olympics, they converted their Olympic stadium into a ball park. A new Olympics stadium would need a tenant, so why not the Jays? Early plans for the 2008 bid had a stadium at the Port Lands: http://www.blogto.com/upload/2015/07/20150727-Olympic-Render.jpg A park, built near the water, with the city in the background, could be great. GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 How subway-accessible would that be?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I think the Rogers Centre is perfectly located where it is. It's a staple of downtown Toronto, I would be really disappointed to see it moved.
Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 How subway-accessible would that be? I can't find the full plans, but I would assume it would have been dependant on having a transit system in place. Keep in mind, I'm only suggesting a new stadium in the event Toronto actually won an Olympic bid. Since a bid would require a new stadium, and since the Portlands were rumoured to be a possible location, some team would need to move in once the Olympics were over.
Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Cool rendering someone did of a post apocalyptic Toronto. Gives you an idea of what a glass dome would look like: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5495/11245176586_2b84d3037e_b.jpg It also makes me think the whole area could use some more greenery. The area around the stadium and Tower is so dull, although I don't know who would be responsible for that. I'd put in more red tiling, like this: http://russiatrek.org/images/photo/yoshkar-ola-city-square.jpg
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 It also makes me think the whole area could use some more greenery. Honestly the entire city save for Forest Hill could use a lot more greenery. I lived downtown for 5 years and almost forgot what a tree looked like.
Travis_Snider Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Made a quick mock of what a pnc like park would be on the port lands http://i.imgur.com/4mfo9QB.jpg
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Like in Milwaukee and Seattle, an outdoor stadium is unfeasible in Toronto due to cold weather in April and October, and being in higher latitudes. Remember why Skydome/Rogers Centre was built in the first place: Per Wikipedia: "The main impetus for building an enclosed sports venue came following the Grey Cup game in November 1982, held at the outdoor Exhibition Stadium. The game was played in a driving rainstorm that left most of the crowd drenched, leading the media to call it "the Rain Bowl". As many of the seats were completely exposed to the elements, thousands watched the game from the concession section. To make a bad experience even worse, the washrooms overflowed. In attendance that day was Bill Davis, the Premier of Ontario, and the poor conditions were seen by the largest TV audience ever in Canada (over 7,862,000 viewers) to that point. The following day, at a rally at Toronto City Hall, tens of thousands of people who attended the game began to chant, "We want a dome! We want a dome!"" At this point, a full blown renovation of the Rogers Centre (which is in the plans) is more likely than a new stadium. If you want a team that really needs a new stadium, try Tampa!

So basically you're saying SkyDome was built because they don't have rainouts in football.

Governator Community Moderator Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I'll never be convinced how much better it would be without an optional roof, you know your tickets are good the day you bought them. The actual playing surface is another story but I think having the option to close a stadium is excellent. It's sort of too bad we have the ugliest retractable roof stadium but we can't just replace it with minute maid park.
