Good thing they are really fast I think a few of them may not have the endurance to do it twice though.

I wouldn't take them too lightly. Saw them almost mow down players from the visiting team on more than one occasion.

Are they going to dog the whole infield or just along the bases and base paths?

I think just along bases and the two lines (Home to 1st and Home to 3rd)

I saw that which is why I asked, makes no sense to me.

Poor Ace is going to have to slam into that wall twice now.

Does that mean it will now be twice as funny?!

I worry about the edge of the concrete where the dirt meets the turf. I'm having visions of Donaldson hitting the edge and tripping and breaking something.

They're smart and they've thought of this, right?

you'd think they'd bevel the corners?

Looking good

As long as they can smooth the transitions I like this and obviously there's a way to do that

Less wear and tear on Tulo and Travis in particular

seems bigger than i thought. just curious, are they doing the warning track too?

The warning track is around the whole stadium. I don't think so.

I'm not sure why I find a dirt infield so damn exciting, but I do.

probably because baseball wasn't meant to be played on concrete ... stickball? yeah ... but MLB?

Does anyone know if the sq ft cost is more for installing the dirt compared to the grass (I know that the development costs would be capitalized into this)?

I just had a thought. Since it seems like Shapiro doesn't find installing grass to be economically feasible, given the constraints of the stadium, what about just simply tearing out all of the concrete on the field completely and just replacing it with dirt? Then they could simply lay the turf over top of the non-infield areas. I know, aesthetically, there would be no change, but wouldn't this take care of the body wear/tear issues?

I'm thinking maybe the turf would be too "loose" and prone to wrinkling if you did this? There must be a reason it's installed on concrete.

You should ask Steven Brooks on Twitter. He seems good at answering fan questions.

Edit: I just asked him

Thanks man!

I'm now curious if they just lay it or if they bolt the turf. If it's the latter couldn't they just remove all concrete except for the corner where it is bolted?

If it's not bolted, well, then I guess we have our answers lol.

When I went to SMU many years ago they got state of the art turf for their football field. We'd go play on it all the time and I always thought it was delightful. We'd dive and jump and it always seemed pretty forgiving to me. I guess ut is not better than MLB grass fields, but it would be easier on the body then the ball fields I played on as a kid.

Oh man, I played on some fields that were basically just hard clay with the odd blade of grass and the oh so terrific all gravel infield.

do you remember having to sew the ass in your pants every week and the knees at least once a month? Picking gravel out of your wrist after a slide? lol Still loved every day of baseball.
