Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Uh..no. That's just sick. What they'll putting in is some automatic toilets and urinals.. which they already have done in the 100 level as part of renos (really hate automatic toilets BTW) When you're taking a dump and they flush on you? The worst.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 When you're taking a dump and they flush on you? The worst. I take it you don't like splashworks?

Tropicana Field wouldn't be so bad if it were a retractable roof stadium.. that catwalk-supported roof wrecks the game and it looks awful on TV.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I take it you don't like splashworks? Especially when it sounds like it's exploding due to high pressure.. the noise bothers me. At least they still had manuals last season--whether they're still there in 2016 is another question. We'll have to wait and see in April.. I've got tickets for the A's series in April..
nextyear Verified Member Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I assume it will be similar to Tropicana Field's "full dirt infield" albeit with a bit of turf - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropicana_Field The small plot of turf in the infield would be a good place to experiment with some grass. If installing grass throughout the infield and outfield is too big a project then maybe the Rogers Centre could have a grass/dirt infield and a artificial turf outfield (would that be a first?). The opposite has been done (turf infield/grass outfield) - http://www.thesuburbanite.com/article/20151205/SPORTS/151209981

ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Photoshopped concept. Would be nice if they did the warning track and foul territory as well but I guess that's the next logical step next off season/beyond.

The opposite has been done (turf infield/grass outfield) - http://www.thesuburbanite.com/article/20151205/SPORTS/151209981 The main issues and expenses with installing grass in Rogers Centre are the drainage required and the air flow within the Skydome when the roof is closed. None of these issues will be addressed by doing a spot trial inside the diamond. Growing grass in indoor stadia is nothing new and is quite easy when the building is designed with this in mind. The main issue we have is trying to retrofit it into an existing building which was designed primarily to host multiple different sports without grass.

It actually gets me excited to see the results.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Seems pretty straight forward to me. And I'm stupid. Do you understand that the design of the building itself is the biggest issue in the way of installing grass? It's not a case of simply hammering out some concrete and throwing down sod.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I wonder if the hops will be noticeably different between the turf and dirt. Buck Showalter will probably complain about it a bunch regardless
nextyear Verified Member Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Do you understand that the design of the building itself is the biggest issue in the way of installing grass? It's not a case of simply hammering out some concrete and throwing down sod. For such a small plot of grass the drainage and ventilation will be proportionally a much smaller issue. Minus the dirt infield and the infield grass area is likely only 6,000 - 7,000 square feet. It seems like a good place to start with a small scale project; the information obtained can be used to determine the feasibility of doing the entire field. If after testing the small area of the infield with grass, it is determined to be impractical to even do the infield with grass then artificial turf could replace the grass in the infield. I like the saying, one has to learn to walk before they can run.

But it looks like complete s***.

Yea, they give themselves 4 days to test it out once it's complete, for projects that size, 4 days is like 20 seconds.
