Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Wat Why would Philly entertain this? They wouldn't and neither player would agree to it. Read back through the last page to get the picture
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Do have a question what is or does the average pitcher earn in his first five years, next five years or ten years of service time? Position players also by posistion? Does anyone know what these might be?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Say we trade some of our big prospects for those guys. Hoffman, Sanchez and many others. Like others have said, there is still a good chance we finish 4th. And then we have no prospects. We're in a very untenable situation. I think the least of all the evils is to call up Norris, get Sanchez healthy and call him up, and go with those guys (almost) no matter what. I would call up Castro as soon as I can, too. For the bullpen. MB will (chances are) have a crappy second half. He wears down and he gets lit up. I would trade him, and then call up Boyd and keep him in that rotation the rest of the season. See what we have. Lastly, I would consider DFA Dickey. I'm sure he can't be traded. So, for the rest of the season, I'd ride with the young guns...and a few stragglers. Hutchinson Sanchez Boyd Estrada Norris lol
jays76 Verified Member Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I'd love to see us get Cueto and Chapman, but I don't think the jays have enough pieces to even make an offer. Jays definitely have the pieces (mix & match combos of Norris, Pompey, Hoffman, Castro, Boyd, Smith jr, Pentecost, etc) but will they pull the trigger? Will AA & Rogers go balls deep to win a championship and take on salary in this very limited window. That's the real question..

AA would like to have another Donaldson as long as he's sure he is getting one. Hamels is kinda close to that, but who knows.

When you put an asset on the market and you have several buyers, the price increase significantly. Alex knows that, for that reason he acts in silent like a ninja. The most likely is that Alex trade for a pitcher little mentioned, a mystery guy.

Yeah it could be a huge risk/reward situation that comes with potential disaster written all over it. I do think the Jays have to make a bold move though to seize control of the AL East and make a serious playoff push. I'm not against buying low but I just hope they don't get any middling players who aren't difference makers. I get everyone not wanting to mortgage the future but it's going to take losing some assets if we want a real shot at the WS this year and also the next couple of years perhaps.

Are the Jays able to spend 160-170 millions dollars on Cueto? As soon as one week, Norris could help us alot to win games; trade him+++ for 2 months of Cueto isn't smart.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Think the Reds would do Leake+Hamilton for Pompey+Norris?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 CBS Sports - Heyman: The Dodgers appear determined to land one top pitcher to join with three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw and All-Star Game starter Zack Greinke in a potentially devastating playoff rotation, and one of Hamels or Cueto are most likely to fill that need. While one AL executive suggested a week ago that the Phillies haven't yet "bent" on their Hamels demands since Andy MacPhail joined their front office to lead them, two other executives, using similar terminology, now say the Phillies have seemed somewhat more "reasonable" in their recent trade talks, and sources suggest there's word of some potential progress with at least the Dodgers and Rangers. Phillies scouts have been dispatched to check out multiple systems, including those of LA and Texas. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25243415/inside-baseball-dodgers-aim-for-cueto-or-hamels-rangers-in-on-cole-too-plus-more-trade-buzz

jays76 Verified Member Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Like how Oakland got Lester and Shark last year? Exactly, that's what's scary about acquiring Shark again this year or a Cueto (although he could be packaged with Chapman). Hamels/Papelbon are longer terms but it will cost us the farm. Is it worth it? Hard to say. We could legitimately challenge for the WS or we could fall on our face like the Marlins trade 2.0, nobody can predict the future or how cohesively they would fit. All I know is this window is small and the time is now. Would I love to have a cheap sexy young rotation for years like the Rays did a few years back, of course. But the reality is the time for this offense is now and we're a couple years away from our young arms coming together at the same time (if they fully do). We can't have it both ways..
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 no he doesn't sir 79 and 52 wRC+ He's just legs. Never invest in players who depend 99.99% of his legs to produce wins. (Figgins, Matthews Jr, Bourn)

I agree, 2mths of Cueto or Shark isn't worth it without a long term commitment (which the Jays would probably never commit to, rightly or wrongly).

First of all Rick Hahn is no Theo Epstien, I doubt he would go for Pompey let alone a Addison Russell.

If make no trade waste another season, we only 4 games out That's my biggest fear, that AA/Rogers does diddly s*** (except for a minor move in attempt to appease the fans and save face) just like last year. It'd be another year of wasted opportunity and not capitalizing on momentum (via the team & fans). AA apparently has some money left to spend (plus Beeston's payroll bump promise), roster players (Navarro, Sanchez, Osuna), and the farm (Pompey, Hoffman, Norris, Smith Jr, Pentecost, Boyd, Castro, etc.) to work with so we'll see what happens.
baubau Verified Member Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Hamilton suxx Hamilton honestly reminds me of Pillar on roids. Worse hitter, better defender and base runner. If he could hit/had a decent OBP he would probably destroy the league. Already 44 SB and putting up 1.6 WAR on his defense/running alone. At 52 wRC+ that is amazing.
