jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Yimi got demoted (which is odd given his 2.85 xFIP and a team that's saber friendly), Liberatore has given up 10 runs in his last 12 innings, and is starting to have command issues, Nicasio has his own command issues, and it's questionable if he's actually any good. Howell is okay, but very lucky so far this year. Peralta has been a disaster. IMO if the Phillies are interested in Hamels, and Puig is going the other way, then those two guys make the most sense to be included. The Phillies aren't going to want to part with extra prospects when dealing Hamels. Yimi's demotion makes zero sense. He isnt walking batters, striking out everyone and his unlucky ERA isnt even that high.

Good relievers taking each other's innings + limiting his service time and cost = Yimi could be optioned for depth and Friedman thinks he's still in Tampa or something
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 You mention saber friendly then mention 10 runs in 12 innings, lol. Stretch. SIERA/SwStr Liberatore 3.23/9.6 Nicasio 3.45/10.6 Howell 3.31/9.6 Jansen god Yimi depth reaching Well, 6 in 4 innings seems to have gotten Yimi demoted in spite of his 2.85 xFIP, and Liberatore has been at about a 4 xFIP over the past 2 months I believe, which given the increasing walk rate is believable. He'll be part of the future, but may not be ready just yet. Howell is pretty solid, but he DOES have a 3.76 xFIP. Nicasio seems extremely average at best, along with command issues. There's plenty of room for improvement, and like I said, the revolving reliever door seems to suggest they think so also, which is the most important part. There is definitely a fit for the Dodgers to add some relief help imo. I doubt the Phillies would add prospects to get Puig, and upgrades are upgrades for the Dodgers. We'll see what eventually happens.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Interesting from @JonHeymanCBS, who reports that the #Mets floated Rafael Montero for Ben Zobrist back when Montero was healthy.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Harvey-Puig is kinda interesting. Ya there might be something there. Doubt either side is really that interested, though.

I think LAD would be very interested in a deal but they'd want more. They can cover Puig in the outfield very easily and they want another ace apparently.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Assuming Oakland turned it down. If we deal Reyes, Zobrist would be a great option at SS. Zobrist would be a pretty below average defender at SS at this point in his career. His bat is solid, but plays better in left.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Am I the only Ryan Goins fan left?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Am I the only Ryan Goins fan left? hopefully
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Am I the only Ryan Goins fan left? Ryan Goins + 22 M > Jose Reyes - 22 M
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 hopefully y'all f***ers banned the other Ryan Goins fans not fair
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Ryan Goins + 22 M > Jose Reyes - 22 M Especially if that saved $ is spent on Cole Hamels
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Jon Morosi #BlueJays among teams with interest in Mat Latos. He's 3-2 with 2.72 ERA and .556 opp OPS in 6 starts since coming off DL.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 He would be a good pick up. FA at end of year, so wouldn't cost a lot. Nay + scrub for him?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Latos FIP 3.32 with a respetable K/BB ratio Yes please. Doubront released or moved to the pen.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 If he ever gets traded to us, it will be fun seeing his wife's reaction http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/mat-latos--wife-freaked-out-on-twitter-as-trade-rumors-swirled-about-him-181130209.html
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 AA needs to pull off a move or two similar to what the Yankees did last season with McCarthy and Headley. Get some impending free agents with deceivingly poor numbers for cheap. Not sure what Latos velocity looks like, but his overall numbers look good. The Marlins owe us for taking the Reyes contract.

It took DeSclafani (remember him!?) to get Latos in the winter, can't cost a lot now unless teams are going crazy. Hopefully the Jays have someone the Marlins like, other than the Norris' etc.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Padres wanted Pillar and Nolin for Headley. Funny, if it was last year at the deadline I would have done that deal. It looks like a bad move in retrospect, though.
