2015 Trade Deadline Targets Thread.

This might be a little premature but what the hell...we're on a 10 game winning streak and 1 game out of first. I think it's obvious we're going to be buyers at the deadline. Use this thread to discuss possible targets the Jays could use at the deadline. Trade rumors, ect.

 

A player i personally would like to see the Jays target that should not cost significant assets is Ian Kennedy. He's a free agent who likely will not be back in SD after this year. His 6.48 ERA looks pretty ugly but his peripherals are pretty much the same as last year when he was pretty damn good. He's been pretty unlucky this year ( 24% HR/FB, .331 BABIP) and he is rocking a very respectable 95 xFIP-. He's still missing bats this year (11.2 SwSt% which is excellent) and i would expect him to be much better going forward. San Diego should be out of it by mid July and i don't see why they would not be open to moving Kennedy.

 

Names like Cueto and Hamels will probably cost a ton in terms of talent to land and i would prefer to keep the farm together and i think an arm like Kennedy would be a great target as someone who might be a little under rated now.

Well...might as well have one single thread to discuss the rumors instead of a separate thread for each time the Jays "inquire" on a player. Ie. Clippard, Papelbon, ect.

Who will he replace in the rotation? Not much of an upgrade over Estrada... maybe if Sanchez doesn't work out. Personally I'd like to dump Dickey.

Sanchez is going to hit his pitching limit, if he doesn't get TJS first.

Rubby de la Rosa would be a great target if we're looking to take advantage of a dumb GM.

Trading for Kennedy based on his peripherals would be similar to last year when the Yanks dealt for Brandon McCarthy (which worked out great for NYY).

 

In general, I like the ideal. My concern is Kennedy's a flyball pitcher who's best suited in a big ballpark (like Petco). I'd be OK with them adding Kennedy at a reasonable price - provided that's not the only move we make...

That would be a amazing trade, but I don't see the Jays pulling the trigger while Beast is still around. You may more likely see Gio being targeted by the Jays as he was a target in the past while he was with the A's.

I would trade EE sooner than I would Bau. For some reason I just see Bautista deteriorating at a slower rate than EE.

I think EE gets it in the next couple weeks IIRC. 90% sure its before the trade deadline. I'd be in favour of trading EE for a #1/2 starter though. His position really kills his value.

He's just not a great assett at all when he's not beasting. It's hard to make room on your roster for a guy like this at the best of times and not many will bother when there are question marks. Probably best to just ride it out.

I think if the Nats trade a pitcher it has to be Zimmerman doesn't it? The guy with the expiring contract? That would make the most sense for them.

Haven't we had enough bad experiences acquiring NL pitchers? Even if they work out, we are going to overpay for inflated numbers.

Well if it's an NL pitcher for Edwin, a hitter who really doesn't belong on the field. Both teams lose equally!!!

 

But really, that's what all these "advanced" stats are for....swinging strike rates, velocity, GB%...a good GM should be able to find the guy whose skills transfer well from NL to AL.

The rumours are they want to move Stras to resign Zimm to a long term deal.

I'd be fine with Edwin for Strasburg, but SS is a Boras guy. Beeston's personal beef gets in the way of that.

There were underlying concerns with both prior to acquisition, but they both had Cy Young years right before we acquired them. If they are having problems...

Especially if we are giving up guys like Syndergaard, Sanchez, Norris, and/or Hoffman in these trades, why not target a younger AL pitcher and get a guy with a few years of control?
