It seems like there is a good chance we need to DFA him to get rid of him. And even then we may be on the hook for his remaining contract.

With the amount of playing time he is getting, and batting as high as 5th, I highly doubt this team is entertaining thoughts to DFA him.

Sources: Mariners and Braves discussed deal involving A.J. Pierzynski, but he's not the catcher Seattle is close to acquiring. @FOXSports

Yep. AA and Gibbons both love him, otherwise he would have been dumped for anything in the off-season.

Alex not being able to adapt when he sees Navarro getting undeserved playing time is so frustrating. Just DFA him and move on. If Martin gets hurt, you're screwed regardless.

I just heard him on the radio. He also said he doesn't know if the jays farm system has enough to pull off a deal for him.

Forget the farm system, the Jays can't afford those contracts, unless the Phillies take Reyes back.

He did also say the Phillies want to get good players back and they will pay money on the deals if they have to.

I might pay a nice package for Hamels at $15 million per year as opposed to $23.5

Just some dude speculating? So the Jays have been linked to everyone. Perfect, AA won't do anything this deadline either.

Article: http://www.csnphilly.com/baseball-philadelphia-phillies/predicting-major-league-baseball-trade-deadline-jonathan-papelbon-cole-hamels-ben-revere-ryan-howard

Snip:

Prediction: Hamels ends up in Toronto. The AL East is winnable for the Blue Jays, who have a small window with Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion and Josh Donaldson all making less money than they probably deserve. The Jays have the longest playoff drought in baseball, and GM Alex Anthopoulos' job is on the line. Plus, Mark Buehrle and R.A. Dickey will likely both be gone after the season.

The issue is whether Toronto has enough talent to strike a deal. The Blue Jays would need to include most or all of their top prospects because the system is thin. I'm talking left-hander Daniel Norris, second baseman Devon Travis, outfielder Dalton Pompey and possibly a relief prospect.

May seem like a lot, but none of those guys are proven yet, and trading them would not have a significant impact on the 2015 team. Travis has been productive, but the Blue Jays have also played well without him this year.

If the Phils package Hamels with this next guy — and include some money — that is not an unreasonable request.

Jonathan Papelbon

2015 stats: 1.60 ERA, 14 for 14 in saves, 35 K in 33⅔ IP

Remaining contract: Approximately $15.2 million through end of 2016

Potential suitors: Blue Jays, Cubs, Rangers, Dodgers

Papelbon has the $13 million vesting option for 2016 that will trigger if he finishes 19 more games this season, or if he requires it to be picked up in order to OK a deal to one of the teams on his no-trade list.

That's really not such a prohibitive salary for an elite closer. As I wrote last month, the Padres brought back a strong return last July for Huston Street, who was owed $7 million the following season. If the Phillies pick up enough money to make Papelbon a $7 million pitcher for the acquiring team, they should receive no less than what San Diego received for Street, a comparable closer.

Prediction: As stated above, I predict Papelbon goes with Hamels to the Blue Jays for a bunch of prospects. Those two pitchers would fill offensive-minded Toronto's two biggest needs and make it the AL East favorite.

Papelbon should probably chill with the entitlement, though. It's not his right to be traded just because he happens to be a good player on a bad team. That's not how sports work.

Norris + Travis + Pompey + is pretty terrible.

But, after d'Arnaud + Syndergaard for Dickey, nothing is out of the realm of possibility.

Pretty sure that guy is just going to be disappointed when they get Castro + Sanchez + Tellez

Awe man, not Tellez. Can't we throw in DJ Davis and Goins instead? Its the Phillies, they won't know the difference.

Why everyone want to get rid of Sanchez? I know he's chaotic at times but he has shown enough for me to be optimistic about him.

The baseball name adds trade value, DJ Davis is just too bland

Only because they'd be getting a guy like Hamels, I'd gladly keep him.

I'd do Norris + Pompey + ? for Hamels and Papelbon and salary relief. But I don't like the idea of trading Travis. Travis is going to be a great second baseman.

He cited that the Phillies really need outfield, pitching and specifically catcher depth.

I wonder if we could swing something like Norris + Pompey + Pentecost + lesser piece(s) for Hamels, Papelbon and some salary relief.

Why the hell are people wanting to trade Norris + Pompey for Hamels

Proven 4 WAR pitcher with 3 years of control at a possibly reduced salary for a maybe 4 WAR pitcher and major league outfielder.

Potential is great but we need performance now if we want to make the playoffs (not saying we should do it)

Exactly. This is the Phillies we're talking about. They probably want Sanchez with his shiny ERA. Get out of here with a pitcher that strikes players out and has more than one plus pitch.

Can this team even afford Hamels heading forward? Probably means that one if not both of Eddy/Bau will be gone unless Rogers decides to open the wallet further for AA which I doubt.

The problem I see is that from a pure baseball perspective we shouldn't be going after someone like Hamels.

However considering that

1) AA knows his ass is on the line

2) Beestons last year (he mouthed off how many times we were going to make the playoffs)

3) Bautista and company will bitch up a storm and probably demand trades which would set off a series of events that would lead to a semi dismantling of the offense

I think AA will have no choice but to make a deal as its closer to the status quo by keeping as many people content as possible and hope for the best.

If we are going to speculate, I will speculate that this will not matter. AA has mentioned before many times in radio interviews that his position / safety will not impact the team heading forwarded. Now what he says and believes may be contraction to us on what he does but I doubt this would be a issue. Especially if he is going to make a big move which requires Rogers to approve which they would more than likely to reject.

I mean, look at them: https://www.tradingview.com/chart/?symbol=ROG I don't think Rogers wants to be in a position to try and justify whey they've spent millions more on a player.

See above.

3) Bautista and company will bitch up a storm and probably demand trades which would set off a series of events that would lead to a semi dismantling of the offense

That is bad because? If Bautista and such demand trades the Jays should take a boat load of prospects/players which helps them heading forward.

I think this is very short sited thinking and we'll just have to agree to disagree. We'll know in 2 weeks what happens.
