dancingmachine Verified Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 I'd rather keep Macko then have a zero bat infielder
Olerud363.354 Verified Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Seems like this guy was a 3 WAR guy a couple of years but degraded so bad sent to minors. Where does he play?

Masterbather Old-Timey Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 So we're back to having one moderately decent left-hander in the bullpen. Great.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Smith had a serious medical illness (hospitalized with viral meningitis yikes) back in early May so not sure this year's numbers since then mean much gruber9292 1

OK

HomeRunHomer Verified Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 I'm whelmed. Hopefully this year is an outlier for Smith and not the new norm for him.

Meningitis can for sure have lasting effects and he may never be the same athlete again. Here's an article from May about Smith's bout and recovery from meningitis. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/rangers-josh-smith-back-in-uniform-after-being-hospitalized-with-viral-meningitis/

Last three appearances 4IP, 13.5 K/9, 2.25 BB/9, 2.25 ERA, 1.61 xFIP He's a cheap, controllable lefty reliever with elite swing and miss. Hopefully he comes around. The Jays also have lefty Javen Coleman in AAA now, and he has potential. Spanky__99 1
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 I think Ross cooked with this one. Macko is nothing special and he's out of options after this year. Somehow Josh Smith still has a couple of options after this year. Prior to this year he put up a 3 WAR and 2 WAR season and then dealing with the illness this year. So he has shown that he is a good MLB player. We also got Stephan who is a Top 30 prospect in this deal as well. I'm not sure he's THAT much worse than Macko, especially because he has 3 options and Macko will have none. Eat My Shatkins and Spanky__99 2
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Macko sucks. Worthwhile gamble on Smith to be honest. Terminator 1

Forever92 Verified Member Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Smith had a 6.4 WAR in '24 and '25 combined. He can hit for utility infielder.

I seen his wife on tiktok complaining about being traded to only team in foreign country. I never, but I felt like replying you in the major leagues nothing to complain about. Jays are one of riches teams in majors. Came within eyelash of winning World Series last year.
