Listen, they won, they got a maximum of just 3 games left in the season. Whoever they use in relief roles its okay.... You don't know the conversations of who has gas and who doesn't and today's game was practically do or die. As Pat Tabler used to say, you got to reach back for a little extra on that one.

Because they are used to losing and have to find someone to blame.

Varland hasn’t been great.  4.5 era and I know he has cashed in a handful of inherited runners, at least 2 of yesavages and a couple on the judge Homer after fluharty.  This is where he should be used

the standard AI's won't create images like that

I definitely ain’t paying but $2 would be worth it to get that image.  I wanted a SS general but also any imperial army Japanese uniform would be cool too for general posting on dodgers groups

Probably would have like to see bassit come out for a third low stress inning to save Varland bullets. Definitely not angry just a very minor complaint.

Yup very much this.

I knew Popkins started out in the Dodger system but didn't know he was the last of 4 candidates to interview for the job

No it’s not this at all. It’s a Baseball Message Board where we have Baseball discussions about things that happen in a Baseball game.

People want to see the team put in the best position to be successful. You want to hold back Varland and Hoffman tomorrow if you can. Especially when Bassit was dealing. It’s not a complaint. It’s not out of anger. You want Louis and Hoffman fresh for a bigger spot. That is really all it is. You can get them up if Bassit got in trouble.

Some don't seem to realize how close the Jays came to burning Hoffman in the 9th against the top of the order.

The xBA on the Call hit is .430

And all those little decisions matter. Because tomorrow the margins might be a little tighter and you kinda want those guys at their best. Varland wasn't very good tonight but he seems to be a bit of a rubber arm who likes throwing everyday. So maybe he gets you a couple big outs tomorrow on 3 and row. I feel like to many people here get defensive over people making valid criticisms. If we can't talk about the game from different perspectives why are we even here. Nothing wrong with these conversations. And I personally like hearing other peoples opinions and reasoning. I don't jump down people's throats about it though. I disagree and make mine.

There's way to much your a f***ing idiot for thinking that way. Or your so negative because you have this opinion. Like were here to talk about Baseball right lol. I just don't understand it.

Varland's fastball is weird to me. I feel like if he could locate it up, he would get more strike outs on that and the curve. Its down too much and middle too much. I also thought he looked a bit nervous. He has logged a ton of innings though and carried a huge load.

I might scare a few people here, but what do you figure the odds are that one of our beloved Toronto Blue Jays *gasp* agreed with the late Mr Kirk on a political issue? Probably zero, nevermind, I guess we can continue cheering for them

The odds are extremely high.

I have mixed feelings on the whole Kirk thing. He was a symptom of where america has gone really really wrong. Essentially, the big money has won the propaganda war there and in real terms could lead to the end of democracy. I mean its not over 50% chance but its much higher than it was in 2015.

At the same time, that doesn't make every trump voter or kirk fan a bad person. The world is much more complicated than that. People are complicated generally.

Pretty crazy to think this series is a middle middle heater from Dominguez to Ohtani away from being 3-1 Toronto

Agree 100%.

Bassitt was pretty much rolling through the 7th and 8th inning, with the bottom of LA's lineup coming up. Given the context of the crazy 18-inning marathon the night before where the Jays went through their entire pen and with a 6-1 lead heading into the ninth against the bottom of the LA's order, would have preferred having Bassitt finishing the game and keeping Varland & Hoffman fresh for tomorrow.

Varland has thrown 40 pitches over two nights. Hoffman threw 33 pitches on Monday, and using him 3 days in a row wouldn't have been ideal.

Varland ended up getting himself into some trouble anyways. If Call gets a base hit there, the top of order is up with Ohtani, Betts and Freeman. Hoffman was likely pretty close to being used last night if it got to that moment.

At the end of the day, it's something small and not the end of the world. Jays won which is the most important. However, we'll see if Varland is available today in a big spot and how effective he can be pitching 3 days in a row. Hoffman should be fine but sucks having to get him up and throwing last night.

Traitors

They should be loyalists and not patriots. They're afraid of being tarred and feathered.

Two entirely unnecessary outings for Varland just in this series. His velo is still up, but I'm concerned for him going forward, as he wasn't sharp tonight.

Man I get a kick out of thinking about all the casual fans of other teams watching this World Series and googling "Nathan Lukes", "Ernie Clement", "Addison Barger" etc while thinking "who the eff are these guys?!"

I saw someone on Reddit say “i didn’t know this guy existed before today, but i love him!”

He was talking about Vlad lol.

I'm in the shower this morning going through my mind what bullpen options the Jays have tonight...Hoffman - check, Dominguez - check, Varland - probably, Fluharty, probably, Bassitt's out, Lauer's out...never done that before.

This is what the World Series run has done to me, gotta love it!🤪🤣
