Miller-Suarez-Morejon-Adam is absurd. Like, that can carry you to a world series.

Bieber is 30 years old, Gausman is going to be 35 in ~5 months.

The difference here is that Bieber is still in the age range where he can reasonably be expected to pitch consistently at a high level if his stuff is back to normal. He isn't old. Gausman isn't an ace anymore because he is aging and declining, as expected.

Bieber was absolutely elite in a small 12-inning sample last season before he blew his arm out: 20 strikeouts to 1 walk in 12 innings.

What he said.

Bieber was one of the absolute studs in baseball before his UCL gave in.

Gausman is 35 and not coming off a major injury and has had three consecutive years including this one better than Bieber's last healthy year.

Unless age regression kicks in massively in the next two months, its likely Gausman is better for the time we have control of Bieber.

Next year, Bieber is probably better. We don't have him next year.

Beiber has a player option for $16M, so if he's good this year when he returns, he's gone. That's a steep price imo for two months (hopefully) of Beiber.

If he pitch well, he'll be a FA

Imagine if the Jays snagged Cease now?

That'd be insane wouldn't it.

Seems unlikely, but going into the playoffs with Bieber, Cease, Gausman starting would be nutso.

Hard to get a read on what the hell the Padres are doing but if they are trying to move Cease and get a lesser starter back we could be a match.

Bassitt or Berrios plus Nimmala for Cease and Suarez.*

Don't tar and feather me I'm just spitballing a trade without even looking at fangraphs dot com first

2022 was Beiber's last healthy year, not 2023, he had injuries in 2023.

If you want to argue that his health is a concern, fair enough, but a healthy Bieber>>Gausman

Yeah. Their fans seem to be expecting it. Apparently they're looking for an OF or C, so would probably have to be a 3-way, with Suarez flipped for prospects then prospects being sent out for the help they need.

Sean Murphy would make a ton of sense for them.

If we could dump the berrios contract on the padres, i'd be estatic.

Padres are some mad scientists.

They add a touch of fun to things

Yeah AJ Preller is a psychopath but he sure knows how to make things fun

They've got a lot of s*** talking players and a fun home crowd to boot

AJ Preller has to his core the belief that he can always find more and is rarely wrong.

also, if he does try miller as a starter that would be interesting.

It is unreal the amount of trades the Padres have made the past several years.  I am always in the camp of "proven MLB players >>> prospects" and they do a great job of that.  It just sucks for them that they share a division with the Dodgers lol.

Yeah its a lot to give up but you had to do it. This could be the best chance the Jays have to win the division for the next 7 years so you have to capitalize. Still need a couple bullpen arms.

I'd say 1 pen arm plus that RH OF.   Bader + pen arm would be about as good a deadline as they could have with what they have already acquired

Laughable, if true. With his defense declining and salary increasing, this is a prime time to sell high on him.
