Listening to Kiley McDaniel on Jays Talk Plus with Blake Murphy from this am.

Said he worked for one MLB team where they were offered a solid trade and his team passed, surprisingly. He found out later why, when the GM told him he was "pre fired" and ownership didn't want to can him during season, so he was told he could not make any deals.

"Pre-firing" - This may be our new best case scenario.

That's a true dick move by ownership. Just fire the guy

Imagine being the GM. He's just sitting there, mailing it in, collecting a paycheck. Tough life.

I mean this does happen sometimes in business

You get actual notice instead of severance pay

Or just a "we are not renewing your contract" communication

The bigger issue for me is how counterproductive that would ultimately be to have someone in charge of running a baseball operations department that isn't capable of making moves to improve the team. Just fire the guy and find someone to take over so that the team isn't stuck in stasis and missing out on available opportunities.

another week, another week shitkins still there. another week of not watching not checking the boxscore except by mistake hahahah... see you next week dear friends.

Is there a precedent for a GM being turfed mid-season when his team is hovering around .500 and just a few games from a wild card spot?

Why hasn't Atkins done anything to improve the lineup? What is he waiting for?

Do you somehow think that the likes of Horwitz, Barger and Orelvis were added to the roster to improve the defense?

They were added to the roster because right now they're in panic mode. If they added some offense during the offseason, likely wouldn't see a whole wave of the Buffalo guys up.

Hope some of the Buffalo guys can contribute and would be nice to see them help get this team out of their rut. Hope we see them playing everyday. Orelvis should have started at least one of the first two games he was called up for. Ridiculous.

Its both panic mode & strategic seeing what they have, as ownership want to make some major moves for a re-tool at this deadline/off season with the likes of Kooch and Jano leaving, and the Bo/Vlad window shrinking. And so far, they have been better overall that the vets they replaced AKA its working.

They have fired the D first run prevention mantra largely out the window. Vlad and Barger at 3B. Horwitz at 2B. Schneider in OF etc etc etc

Man the 3rd WC more often than not is fools gold. Its changed the game for fans and FOs. Smart move by MLB. Many fans point to AZ and not the HOU, LAD track record big Wins teams of the league. "See!!!!! Just get in!!!"

It's a weird situation. The more casual fans would pay more attention for more of the season, I guess, but the more hardcore fans are probably somewhat annoyed by how many mediocre teams there are.

In the AL there are:

3 obviously bad teams

something like 8 mediocre teams that are either in a WC spot or think they have a chance still

only 2 very good teams IMO, NYY and BAL (not calling Cleveland and Seattle "very good" right now)

In the NL there are NINE teams within 1.5 games, spanning from WC 2 all the way to the Reds who are 3rd last in the NL but only 1.5 games back of a playoff spot

All of these teams are actually BELOW .500 lmao. Nats and Cards sitting in WC2 and WC3 a game under .500

lmfao

Hardcore fans of most of these mediocre teams are NOT happy right now, unless they were the Nats/Tigers or whoever who had zero expectations heading into the season.

Toronto - miserable

Houston - miserable

Texas - miserable

Tampa - no fans anyway

Cardinals - misery

Padres - misery

DBacks - misery

Cubs - misery

Giants - misery

Mets - perpetual misery

Reds - sadness

Actually I go through fairly long periods where I don’t even have the urge to text someone. I’m a strange duck. I have a bunch of hot Arab chicks I could be planning to visit. My son benefits in this case as he’s going on 3 week European vacation with his gf with my usual travel money.

As for my comment, it’s basically who cares if other teams failed too. NYY and Balt are great. Tampa when they’re healthy are going to be a Top team. The Red Sox are better than us now with some premium talent infusion on the way.

I’m glad that a lot of the other AL teams are toiling. Touchdown. It’s not just us. Everyone feel better. Get an ice cream with a certain old guy.

I’ve told you I usually only want something until I have it. I’ve shared some potential stories. I definitely have a dead part inside. But also, my older brother, while nothing like me in many ways, is also a loner. Bad gene we got passed there. I think DP knows me best. You’re never going to burn me on personal, as I already can see anything you can see.

I feel good I got to the bottom of the Top 10% of Salaries in the US. I haven’t had to go to a doctor in 20 years for anything besides mucus in flu season. I have a good kid that’s my best friend and I text with everyday. We’re all built different. Some dudes like me just get built way different lol.

6.5 back of WC3 (counting H2H tiebreaker) and 4.5 behind the Red Sox who they are 0-3 against so far. The 3rd WC does create an avenue for more teams to be buyers than sellers, but I can't imagine the Jays are that delusional to think they are close. The rest of June should make it crystal clear to them if they are still not convinced.

Rogers wanting to make major moves for a retool, is that speculation or do you know something? Trading the impending FAs is definitely going to happen if they are out of it, but major moves would imply bigger fish (Bo, Vlad). Hopefully Rogers is ok with at least a partial rebuild. Shapiro would have you believe that they were the reason the rebuild happened in 2019 instead of 2017. We will see if that's the case this time around. Tearing down a beloved team (2015-16) versus tearing down a team most fans can't stand are two different things.

The jays should not be trading anyone until Shatkins are gone, seriously does anybody really believe they are smart enough to acquire real talent at this point? Most of the pitching staff is 30 or older so it’s not like they are going to carry the team into contention.

Mediocrity’s in the cards for the Jays if we’re honest about it, 3rd wild card whoop-de-do, this isn’t The Diamondbacks or Rangers who had enough talent on the roster to get hot at the right time and make a run, this is a team that gets swept by the Orioles or Yankees or Guardians even if they get the #1 wild card spot.

None of us should want Shatkins having anything to do with any of the trades that will determine the future of this franchise

And do you want to know the scariest part? 70% of the 40 man roster is 27 and older and with all of our top prospects on the mlb roster we have by far the worst talent pool currently in the minors. MLB pipeline rated them 30 out of 30 just the other day.

This has to be one of the more frustrating seasons in Blue Jays history.

I know this organization has had awful seasons before, though given the timeline and expectations of being a Postseason contender, this really sucks. As well, the product on the field for the most part isn't entertaining to watch or easy to root for. Other than the rotation and the Buffalo guys. At least during the Gord Ash years, there was Roger Clemens, Shawn Green, Carlos Delgado, Shannon Stewart, Jose Cruz Jr, Jose Canseco, Brad Fullmer, Tony Fernandez to name a few players who were so much fun to watch! In the JPR years, they had Halladay in top form, Delgado, Wells, O-Dog, Glaus, Reed Johnson, the Cat, Burnett, McGowan and Marcum. During the AA years, the first couple of years were tough but we all knew it was a rebuild and didn't expect the team to contend. Still had Bautista, EE, Ricky, Yunel, Brandon Morrow, Brett Lawrie, Colby Rasmus, Casey Janssen.

I would say the 2013 and 2014 seasons were frustrating given the massive trades and expectations the Jays had, especially the 2013 season.

You're probably going to be waiting a lot of weeks for that. If it happens it'll probably be in the off season.

This deadline is an enormous fork in the road for the next 5 years. You have to sell everything you can. If you don't you're just tacking on years to the rebuild.

It's a perfect storm that has landed us as one of the most well positioned sellers with a justification to sell!

Yup, this is so true. You can drastically and immediately improve the farm and have tons of payroll flexibility for the next couple years.

Ultimately having the team go in the tank they way they have can be a blessing in disguise vs hanging around the .500 mark approaching the deadline. Barring a completely miraculous extended winning streak this team appears to be done like dinner.
