End of the day we can only go off results, and results have not been good since Don Mattingly became involved with the coaching staff.

 

Don Mattingly did the impossible, he fixed Vlad Jr.'s swing. Both deserve big extensions.

Well I know a guy who said this so it has to be true

 

Of course every player has their own “go to” coach whether that’s their dad, brother, or someone they’ve built a trust with

 

But what is the coaches job ultimately? The performance of the team. And if the team is under performing there will be calls to be replaced! Shocking I know. To sit and say well we don’t know how much influence they or if anyone listens to them so it doesn’t make sense to fire them is hog wash

 

Maybe players not listening to certain people says more about that person than the players themselves

 

In my opinion, the role of a coach is to be there to support the players. Players decide how much, or how little support they need at the ML level. If the team sucks, the primary reason is because the players suck and you analyze whether or not you think they'll improve, or you move them.

 

I understand why teams fire coaches - I just think fans grossly overestimate the impact they have on the players and team.

I've seen the analytics he uses to help players improve their skating and it's pretty in-depth.

 

As for things sucking since Don Mattingly joined - I just find it remarkable that he immediately undid everything that Martinez implemented in 2021-22 when they were Top 3 in baseball - especially when he wasn't the hitting coach.

Yea Biggio took over 1b when Freeman left the team to take care of his son, he held a press conference today giving an update on his condition. He struggled to get through it

 

 

Guillain-Barre Syndrome is terrible. My son got it at the age of twelve. Just started to lose his balance and started falling down. Went to emerg and the pediatrician said you have to get him downtown to Sick Kids hospital right now. Checked into Sick Kids that night and a day later in the hospital and he was paralyzed from the neck down. Can't take solid foods and had to be fed by a tube, on a ventilator, tubes, the whole thing. Wife and I took turns at the hospital in twelve hour shifts. While I was at his bedside my father died and I didn't have a chance to see him before he passed. 2012 was a hell of a year for me. Took about a year before my son recovered. Being young is an advantage for Freeman's son. Those who contract GBS as adults sometimes never recover. Wouldn't wish it on anybody. I am grateful to the staff of Sick Kids for everything they did for my son.

 

I'm not the type to post personal stuff but Freeman's situation kind of hit home. Wish him the best.

Thanks for asking. Yes he ended up fully recovered after therapy for the year. GBS is very rare and causes are not known for sure. No lingering issues.

I was arguing with a buddy that he would have to do something pretty special to win the MVP as a DH only player. Looks like he just might.

I think he could play the outfield pretty well given the opportunity (cause why couldn't he at this point), obviously he can't cause of the health of his arm. There's a Mike Trout 10-11 WAR season in Ohtani if he ever got to do that. Comforting for the Dodgers to know that if he can't pitch for whatever reason forever in the future they can easily just decide to stick him in the OF.

 

I like the idea that if everything possible broke right for Ohtani, and you got one of his better hitting/pitching/baserunning seasons together and let him play the field for part of the season he'd be worth like 15 WAR.

 

Most talented baseball player in history. Very skeptical there's any reasonable argument against now.
