nah, he would get in on merit

the 3000 strikeouts alone = an impressive enough milestone to overcome some of the other shortcomings like never winning a Cy

Yes, if not for the offensive behavior he would get in but wouldn't be unanimous. As I said, add that voter segment to the voters that fail him on character, and Schilling has a problem of his own making.

I appreciate your nuanced take on this Jim. However, there really is no room for voters to not vote for him using the merit argument. Might as well abolish the HOF if a pitcher like Schilling does not have quals.

I remember him dominating the Blue Jays in 93. Think about the offense on that team and he was able to handle them. Just one iota I remember.

Schillings career is HOF, no if ands or doubts.

Just add Schilling to the long list of players that based on career accomplishments should be, but are not, in the HOF.

Mets sign Verlander.

First tweet says 2 years, with a 3rd year vesting option.

Schilling, Bonds, Clemens, they all deserve to be in the hall. The fact that they aren’t is a joke and tarnishes what the HOF is IMO

You could argue throwing a hissy fit and brining attention to it that year could’ve gained him votes. He wasn’t getting in

No, no you can't

Helluva payday for a 40 year old. Gotta love it.

If it's a 2-year deal for Verlander, the Mets did a very smart thing going with him over deGrom

I really have a feeling the Rangers are getting Rodon. They're not f***ing around.

Kershaw staying in LA for 1/20

Those lucky f***s get such a sweetheart deal on him each year. He could probably get 4 years 80 million from the Rangers.

I would imagine it has to do with the winning part

Kershaw never seemed like the type of dude who was out to 'maximize his value' at every stop. He has more than enough money in the bank at this point, and just cares about racking up career accolades as a Dodger legend and having a shot at the World Series every year. He also might be willing to take slight discounts so the Dodgers can do other things like sign Freddie Freeman to a contract.

He might've switched teams if some team was willing to give him stupid money (like the DeGrom contract), but I don't think many teams are due to his injury history (and his stuff and velo seem to be declining every year).

Carlos Rodon Seeking Six-Year Deal

By Steve Adams | December 5, 2022 at 11:43am CDT

With Jacob deGrom and Justin Verlander off the market — to the Rangers and to the Mets, respectively — Carlos Rodon is the clear top starting pitcher left on the free-agent market. As one would expect for a 29-year-old lefty (30 next week) who opted out of the second season of his contract on the heels leading the National League in strikeouts, the asking price appears quite high. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that agent Scott Boras and Rodon have been seeking a six-year deal at an annual rate of $30MM or more. (Notably, that report pre-dates Verlander’s new agreement with the Mets.) Heyman suggests that the Yankees are the large-market team that is most focused on Rodon at present.

Bryan Reynolds went from 98 percentile in "Outs Above Average" to the dreaded 6 percentile last year. What happened?

Saw that yesterday as well, hard to say but i doubt his actual abilities degraded that much. Could just be a blip.

Makes the Gausman deal look like a steal in comparison
