Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Not really stoked about giving up anything super valuable for a dude with a career xFIP of 4.24. Don't get me wrong, I'd happily have him on the team (though, yeah, his numbers since sticky stuff went away are VERY concerning), I just don't want to give up what Pittsburgh wants for him.

Theres way better arms out there. Daniel Hudson, Tanner Scott, Cole Sulser, Taylor Rogers. We really should just stay away from Richard. Hes honestly no better than Cimber, Castro, Thornton ect.

Unimpressive. Will get shelled in AL East.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Go after Rogers instead. Unfortunately Rogers has a sprained finger and is on the injured list at the moment. It seems somewhat unlikely he will end up being traded.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 If he's unlikely to approve a trade to NY, then I would assume Canada is out of the question, but worth a shot either way since he's open to being extended.

What it would take I wouldn't do, unless he's willing to sign a 2 year extension...which he won't, cause why wouldn't he test out the market.

Thats fine, there are plenty of other, dont know if there will be anyone better for the price than Daniel Hudson, hes been borderline elite this season. Couple of BAL relievers Scott and Sulser, Fry all would be good targets aswell.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 We should not be in on any rentals. Only trade for players under control for at least next season. Our management has already wasted half the season to observe the team, which has probably cost us the division. Making a foolish panic trade would be foolish and unlike this management.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Hearing Scherzer would prefer a West coast team And the Dodgers need a starter So.....
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Rental 18 starts, 103.1 IP, 4.35 ERA, 1.3 fWAR
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2021 Author Posted July 27, 2021 Why the f*** would the Mariners do this?
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Its the smart thing to do. Dipoto knows that team is made up of smoke and mirrors. Toro is a good young hitter with lots of control.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Hearing Scherzer would prefer a West coast team And the Dodgers need a starter So..... Max Scherzer for the rest of the year costs 20+ mil with the tax. It must be nice to be able to spend 100 mil more than the next closest team.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Trea Turner to SEA?????????? nvm just hurt him self

All while flushing the rest of Bauer's 20M owed down the toilet (Unless he's suspended by MLB and they don't have to pay him as much)
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Because Toro is a huge return for Graveman. Reminds me of Teoscar for Liriano
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Sounds like Dipoto has other moves lined up that will compensate for losing Graveman (remains to be seen). I actually think that's a pretty smart strategy. Whether Dipoto can pull it off is another story, but he knows his team is overachieving and rather than being blinded by it, he's hedging his bets. Maximize value out of impending FA, and probably will mix in some short terms moves to help the 2021 team as well.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Because Toro is a huge return for Graveman. Reminds me of Teoscar for Liriano Graveman is one of if not the best reliever in the AL this year. That's a tad better than what Liriano was when we traded him..lol.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Graveman is one of if not the best reliever in the AL this year. That's a tad better than what Liriano was when we traded him..lol. Graveman isn't even top 15 in the AL right now. His fWAR is identical to Liriano's at the time of the trade. And I didn't even f***ing compare them. The trades are similar because Houston is willing to deal a scuffling young position player with huge upside for a mediocre rental arm.

Weed is legal now dude. I just said Graveman is better this year than Liriano was the year we traded him. Chillax. I don't really care.

Old Techno chimp that I am doesn't know how to find out where that ranks in AL relievers? Barnes is 1.8.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 but why would you use bWAR with a reliever who is clearly having a lot of ERA luck Fair enough. Trying to figure out the calculations discrepancy with a starter like Robbie Ray has confused me enough. lol fWAR Ray 1.5. bWAR 3.5 Thats like a net 15mm AAV spread. fWAR more FIP based.
AMS528 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 but why would you use bWAR with a reliever who is clearly having a lot of ERA luck He is, but his fWAR is still really good. 2.88 is nothing to scoff at. He's striking out a lot more guys than he used to and he's still keeping the groundball rate as high as he generally has. I mean Liriano had an fWAR of like 4.73 when we traded him. They're getting better than that.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Man I wish the Jays could get Marquez. Frankly I don't understand why the Rockies aren't trading him. Their farm is garbage. They're no where close to competing. They are going to trade him in 2 years and get less in return. His starts over this year and next are just causing them to have a worse draft position. I'm not sure what it would take to get him if they actually made him available though.

They're getting better than that. I mean, that's kind of the whole point of WAR. It lets you compare very different players. If you are comparing a closer with 30 IP and a 2.88 FIP to a closer with 31 IP and a 2.85 FIP, you don't need WAR. They are obviously the same as far as production goes. But what if you want to compare a 2.88 FIP reliever to a 4.73 FIP 4th starter? Or a good closer to a shortstop who hits .230 with no power but a great glove? WAR! That's what it's good for! Absolutely something.
