Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Wow I suck. I think there's a joke here about Billy Beane sucking, but I'm going to leave that alone.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 You forget they play on a team that opened admitted they manipulated service time and held top prospects down to gain an extra year of control (while also calling Kyle Seager overpaid and complaining about the quality of the english from some players). While I do think they wait to see what other moves the GM has up his sleeves - I can appreciate this team doesn't believe Toro gives them a better chance to win this year. And let's be honest - what % of baseball teams are actually 'trying' to win? Trying to turn a profit? yes. I didn't forget anything. And it wasn't the "team", it was a team president that subsequently resigned because of the comments. The particulars don't matter anyway, these are professionals paid big money to play baseball, they should leave the GM'ing to the GM. If they want to show passion, show passion on the field.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Ya gotta wonder if the A's know something about Luzardo the fish don't. It's a gross overpay for Marte if his arm is healthy.

The Team President represents the team. I fully expect that everything he said was widely accepted and supported within that organization. His downfall was that he told the truth to the media instead of lying to them and/or keeping his yap shut. How dare anyone question the masterful work of Jerry Dipoto - HOF GM.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 What the f***???? Wow... Ng hit this out of the park, helps the A's immediately but... not a move BB usually makes. I imagine she uses their pitching depth for position players next.
Ray Verified Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Apparently Padres are discussing a deal to send Hosmer + cash + Robert Hassell to the Rangers for Joey Gallo. What an awful contract by Preller lol. Can't believe he thought it was a good idea to give Hosmer $144M.

lovemyjays Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Hmm Yanks get Gallo. Our foes get stronger. Rays get Cruz, Yanks get Gallo, we get nothing.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Assuming none of these guys will amount to anything, in typical Yankees fashion. I can’t recall a single prospect they’ve traded away that ended up becoming an above average player.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Geez, these guys are mostly lotto tickets? Rangers suxxxxxx
metafour Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Geez, these guys are mostly lotto tickets? Rangers suxxxxxx Those guys are all having huge seasons statistically. I'm not sure on the actual prospect status/grades, but Hauver was a 3rd round pick in 2020, and Smith was a 2nd round pick in 2019. Glenn Otto is 25 but he has 115 strikeouts vs. 17 walks in 75.2 innings this season.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 I get what you're trying to tell me, bro. I understand. I like Duran and Pereira, but still seems pretty light for a controlled Gallo.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Sell! This team sucks ass Next year will be our year to contend once the team actually gets the payroll up to a real level. The wait and see approach of our young guys will be over and we'll know who's actually part of the core.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 There's a high probability next year will be a lockout year. Abom. You are not making me feel better tonight. Lol.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Abom. You are not making me feel better tonight. Lol. Sorry lol. I think it's important to note though. Both sides are at a very unhealthy state right now. We should either be going for it this year, or planning for 2023 and hoping for some bonus in between.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 The Jays won't sell, but they probably should. Pad the prospect cupboard even more by dealing Ray and Semien, then replace them with Hatch and Smith so we can see what they bring to the table at the MLB level for a few months. Try to target blue chip pitching prospects from contenders if you can. Then in the off season go hard for Correa, try to re-sign Ray again, as well as Thor maybe?

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 I'd take Trevor Story instead. Based on the current state of the franchise, the Jays should not be buying any position player FA. Pitching, yes.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Names keep changing... Yanks look good in this deal... *sighs*
