Outfielder George Springer and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a deal, sources familiar with the situation tell ESPN.

 

Springer is headed to Dunedin for a physical. And if all goes according to plan, Toronto will get the star it’s been looking for all winter.

I still don’t think it’s that big of a deal if they don’t land Springer. Depending on the length and the dollars, it could be a good thing to avoid. There are other ways to improve the team that don’t involve a potential albatross contract in years 3-6.

 

Thing is, they have the money to spend right now, and the market is there to do it... As kinda insane as it is to say this, the Jays could swallow it if they paid Springer ~5/125, and he didn't play a single game for them, so it really isn't going to be an albatross of any kind.

As expected we had to overpay to land a top tier FA if in fact it for 6/150. The good news is that this signing could break the ice and pave a path for Bauer or JTR now that they see we're serious. Exciting times.
