He is (somewhat unfairly) getting the DH negative defensive value. As a hitter alone playing RF every day I think his fWAR would be at least a full win higher. As a pitcher he's a part-timer pretty much. He's been closer to Pablo Lopez than he's been to Corbin Burnes.

He's also done it taking up just 1 roster spot, should that be factored in to MVP? It's certainly valuable.

I'm not sure how to measure the value of the roster spot.

Unless Semien or Vlad got really hot, he is going to lead the AL in fWar by a WAR or so. However his total won't be higher than Trout 2013, Randy Johnson 2002, the best Pujols years. Bonds 2001-2004 would be way ahead.

By fWAR will Ohtani be in the top 20 seasons of the century? You'll have 4 Bonds seasons, at least a couple Trout seasons ahead of him. Maybe a couple of Pujols seasons, a Randy Johnson season. Maybe a Halladay season.

The extra roster spot is not trivial. It's a big advantage. Now the Angels are probably not using that advantage much...

Holy f***! This story has me shook

Lmao, one of my friends is a Yankees fan and he posted that story to our fantasy league group chat like it proves that Derek Jeter is the GOAT or something.

Posted
Bautista: "Hey Derek, I'm inviting my teammate Kevin Pillar to the facility. That cool?"

Jeter: "Sure."

Jeter: "Hey Kevin."

Pillar: "WOW YOU'RE THE GOAT".

I wonder if he got a gift basket?

It's amazing how much being on the Yankees propelled his career/stardom.

He and Larry Walker put up about the same WAR and Jeter is treated like he's on the same level as Michael Jordan, Tom Brady and Wayne Gretzky whereas Larry Walker barely made it into the HoF.

Is it more Yankees benefit for Jeter (maybe cause so much more spotlight) or more skepticism for Walker from playing so much at Coors field? (I'm so tired of hearing about the latter in any case. His park adjusted stats show how irrelevant that was)

It's more Yankees benefit. Replace Walker (I only used him because they are being inducted today with similar WAR) and insert any 70-ish WAR player into the conversation and it's still the same. Just using MIF and Barry Larkin, Lou Whitaker, Craig Biggio, etc. were all close in value but none are considered his peers talent wise. Cal Ripken Jr. (92.5 WAR!) was the far superior player and he isn't either.

It was a perfect storm for Jeter. A HOF career on one of the most valuable franchises in sports, in the biggest media market, and 5 championships.

So true bud. The bright lights of New York in the playoffs making that flip play to home, diving over a tarp etc etc. On the other hand some burn out under that bight light. Winning rings makes a big difference in perceptions that overlook flaws. Joe Carter is an over rated and hugely beloved Jay for some of same.

My 13 year old son was blabbing to me last night how over rated Jeter was on D etc. He has been pouring through stats etc. Love to hear that! lol

Could you imagine what Larry Walker would of done if he played 2700 games with the Yankees?

Walker had a higher OPS on the road than Jeter.

Walker has the same average on the road as Paul O'Neil but more power, on base and defense.

So Walker as a Yankee would likely be O'Neil as a Yankee with more power, on base and defense.,

Raw numbers wouldn't be as good as in Colorado, but imagine if he was healthier and played 2700 games as a Yankee like Jeter did?

Even more fun. Walker's MVP season in 1997 he had 29 homers on the road. On the road.

Imagine Walker in 1997 in Yankee Stadium... he might chase 60.

In alternative-land Walker as a 2700 game Yankee is legend.

He'd have a candy bar named after him.

What's even more hypocritical is that they whine about the the Coors park factors, then never even mention the little league dimensions of Yankee stadium in the R and L field corners.

Jeter *158* post season games producing:

.308/.374/.465 OPS .838 doesn't hurt...

(I recognize that his volume of post season games has a LOT to do with playing for a long time, on a very good team with multiple HOF caliber players)

Jeter is both a deserving Hall of Famer and probably the most overrated player in baseball history. This includes people like Jack Morris and Harold Baines.

He bullied a Gold Glove 40-40 shortstop with a batting title to third base. When he went on his self indulgent retirement jerk-off tour, people were honestly debating whether he was the greatest Yankee of all time.

With the way the New York media constantly finger popped his ******* I'm only surprised that he didn't win more Gold Gloves and MVPs.

The Giants have been the first team to 50, 60, 70, 80, and now 90 wins.

This has to be one of the more unexpectedly great seasons in recent baseball history. Every projection system had them between 70-80 wins, and it’s likely they’re gonna win 100+

Cole's next scheduled start is at a NL team

Rumblings are they'll push him back to avoid having him hit/run bases but try to avoid an IL stint

Kevin Pillar's nose is really impossible to forget, as long as he's seen it once, he'll remember it forever.

His playoff triple slash is virtually identical to his regular season career slash line…so it’s not like he elevated his game in the playoffs.

He almost killed Tulo with it and put him on the IL. Lethal weapon.
