saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 Good s*** The Rays win, because that's what they do.....hand out demoralizing losses!
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 Damn that was close lol. Picked up 2 games on the sox in 2 days!! Now we need Astros to win
Ray Verified Member Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 If the Astros win, we’ll jump ahead of the Mariners in the Wild Card standings with 3 left to play against a scuffling Yankees team and the O’s coming up in the weekend. This team has certainly made it interesting this past week. Still lots of work to do, but gotta give them credit.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 Wow... did not expect Tampa to win that one.

jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 And now Seattle is down 5-0... life's good.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 5-0 Astros in the 2nd!! That was a bomb by Meyers!
Ray Verified Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 10-2 Astros now. I hope to god this is start of the Mariners tailspin closer to their true talent level.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Damn I got click baited. Headline was: “Dave Roberts gets brutally honest about Cody Bellinger” ..so I’m thinking he was going to say some diplomatic version of “he’s terrible right now” but it was just basically “he has to keep fighting” lol
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 I'll move this here, because it is distracting from the "Vlad to Indy Ball" (not today, he's hot again) discussion I think it's interesting and kind of weird that mention Ohtani's fWAR of only 7 (lower than most people probably think it is) and the reaction is "Hey, hey, hey! Keep the fWAR out of it. This is history. No place for numbers. No one has pitched and hit like this before." Wasn't saying any different, 2 things can be true. No one has pitched and hit like this before, and his fWAR is "only" 7, on track for 8, lower than a few recent MVP seasons.

As a hitter alone playing RF every day I think his fWAR would be at least a full win higher. As a pitcher he's a part-timer pretty much. He's been closer to Pablo Lopez than he's been to Corbin Burnes. He's also done it taking up just 1 roster spot, should that be factored in to MVP? It's certainly valuable.

The awards are really just a MLB marketing thing, WAR is low on the list of considerations. No. 1 consideration is probably who do the casual MLB fans want as the MVP?

No. 1 consideration is probably who do the casual MLB fans want as the MVP? Or you know, winning. Like when there’s an MVP of the game, or MVP of a series, it’s not the best player on the field. I know it ruffles some jimmies here but there’s still a lot of old-timers doing the writing and voting

It would be incredibly fun though, to watch all those old writer's heads explode if Vlad actually does win the triple crown, and then don't vote him as MVP. The entertainment it would cause would be tremendous.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 I was just thinking how crazy it is that Miggy just hit his 500th home run the other week. Miggy is/was incredible. A generational talent and one of the best hitters I've ever seen. Pujols hit his 679th home run tonight. It's almost hard to fathom that Pujols has 177 more home runs than Miggy...insane.
BCZ Verified Member Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 4 old players past their prime all having career years or best year in a long time... Crawford (34 - 131 wRC+), Longoria (35 - 142 wRC+), Posey (34 - 146 wRC+), and Belt (33 - 135 wRC+). Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist or maybe it's fishy as hell. Regardless of what you think it's some serious anomaly or seriously sketchy.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Seattle just lost too. These last few days have been unreal in terms of the standings for us. Let's keep it going!

Why can't the Giants feel their hitting coach has magic powers too? Lol
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Oakland getting rekt, nice.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Oakland getting rekt, nice. Not only did we beat the Yanks but all 3 scoreboard games are going to go our way.
