Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 They are making it up as they go and the plan was not wholesome. Ideally they would just be able to isolate players and contact trace, etc., and fill in rosters from the 60 man pool. That's the whole point of the 30 man rosters and 60 man pools. BUT failures in player discipline, testing accuracy, testing turnaround, and complications from local and state policies, have ruined the plans. Baseball's hope for how it all could or would work seems to have been too Utopian. NHL and NBA have taken more realistic approaches with their bubbles. MLB really should have bubbles in a few select places, possible with Toronto being one. In retrospect 5 6 team bubbles. 5 division winners make playoffs. 5 second place teams go into a 3 day wild card tournament to decide 3 wild cards. Toronto bubble presided by Justin Trudeau - Toronto, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Orioles, Detroit. NY bubble presided by Andrew Cuomo - NY Yankees, NY Mets, Boston, Atlanta, Washington, Colorado Red state bubble presided by Donald J. Trump - Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Arizona Diamond Backs, Tampa, Florida Marlins, Reds California bubble presided by Gavim Newson, Dodgers, Angels, Padres, As, Giants, Mariners Mid west bubble presided by Joni Ernst - Royals, White Sox, Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals, Twins Note - Colorado didn't have a natural home in any of the bubbles so go put into the NY Bubble, even though it's not a good fit, Colorado not coastal, not exactly mid west, and not a red state (last election at least). Note Game times (local time zone) 12:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 8:00 pm or as dictated by game length.

Idiocy to have teams travelling all over the country, in and out of every MLB city. I guess it is much more complicated in baseball though, compared to hockey or basketball, with the need for huge 60 man player pools, games every day, field quality demands. Flying from city to city for like 20 different 3-game series is insane
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 I don't understand why they even bothered to start the season if every positive test was going to result in games being postponed. It wasn't going to, the Marlins ruined/changed it for everyone though, at least at this time

Yeah i was extremely confused when the schedules first came out and they just looked like a regular MLB season with the same amount of travel. All they did was reduce the distance of travel by geo-locking the schedule. They did absolutely nothing to change the frequency of travel and contact with new teams every 3-4 days, which seems a lot more important.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 I am really surprised that they're not doing like Indy ball schedules. Play a full week in one location then travel to the next. Yeah when the regional alignment of the schedule was first talked about, I assumed teams would play two 5 game series' against their division rivals so they never had to travel to that spot again. Hell, even a 10 game series would have made sense to avoid travel at all. Instead it was the standard 2-4 game series' with more travel than necessary. Not only did they not want a bubble, but they even messed up the non bubble scheduling. I almost think baseball was better off not coming back because of players and owners fighting about money. Now they've not only fought about money, but proven they are incompetent in the wake of a pandemic when every other league is probably going to finish their seasons.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 So when it rains it pours.. In this case literally... Hurricane Isaias is tracking to go up the east coast of the US, affecting areas like Baltimore, DC, with rain etc...Maybe later moving up towards NY, Boston... Depending on shifts could mean rain for places like Atlanta also... Miami is not playing so won't affect them.. But just one more wrench in the mix

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 One issue that baseball didn't prepare for at all is that it is a daily sport. Covid can really throw the league schedule into a tailspin because when an outbreak occurs the canceled games pile up in a big hurry. They should have had a week long break midway through the season as well as a break after the season to fit in any games before playoffs start. The owners and players taking forever to come to an agreement probably prevented their ability to do that though.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 They pretty much say that every year, have to keep the people scared and watching the news Nah, no conspiracy here. The conditions for hurricanes are getting worse every year. The intensity, frequency, and duration of North Atlantic hurricanes, as well as the frequency of the strongest (Category 4 and 5) hurricanes, have all increased since the early 1980s. ... Hurricane-associated storm intensity and rainfall rates are projected to increase as the climate continues to warm.
