Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Can we QC Happ? The whole "can't QC someone twice" thing is always hard to track. I'd rather get a draft pick than a nothing prospect. What does QC mean? Do you mean Qualifying Offer? I don't believe Happ has been offered one. He was traded at the deadline last time he was due to be a free agent. So I believe we could.
Ray Verified Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Unfortunate Donaldson has been injured all season. Might've been able to package him and Happ together for a really good return. Whether it be the Yankees or the Braves.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I still think we can have a nice deadline. Of course Happ will be moved. We have 4 relievers to sell. Axford, Clippard, Loup, and Oh. Teams will likely be interested in Granderson as a 4th OF or a platoon bat. And Estrada depending on his health will be likely be moved as well. Not going to get any big name prospects but we can get a handful of lottery tickets for guys that have no future with the team. I will certainly take that.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 We’re probably getting two or three second tier guys for Happ. And maybe one for Oh, Clippard, or Granderson. And maybe Estrada if he comes back healthy. Deadline summary will likely be three to five lottery tickets. Similar to what we got in the Pearce for Espinal deal. The Jays simply have terrible luck with the value of their trade chips this season. The real haul for a top 100 prospect will happen when Osuna goes on the market in the winter time.

(ie; can only be QO'd once per contract) Or am I mistaken and it applies lifetime to a players career?

I don't think it's at all likely that Osuna is traded. Gibby and Atkins both showed him a lot of support in their comments, without endorsing what he did. We have control of him through 2021 now with this suspension so it would make way too much sense to keep him.

Osuna will be found guilty and we'll sell him for 25 cents on the dollar to keep in line with our poor value streak.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 Good thing everyone waits until the trade deadline. Wouldn't want to have maximize Happ's value. Should've known he couldn't look like an all Star until the end of July.

Should've known he couldn't look like an all Star until the end of July. He looked dominant tonight until a terrible error and a bunch of poorly hit balls landed in the perfect spots to extend at-bats or dribble in for base hits. He then gave up a HR on like the 50th pitch of the inning, which is about what you should expect with any pitcher on the mound. Luckily for us MLB teams do actual scouting, they don't trade precious assets on the premise of looking at box scores. His value isn't going to be shot because Eduardo Nunez hit a seeing-eye single off him.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 Happs value going in the tank with every start

All the positive talk is just posturing so other teams won't realize that the Blue Jays are desperate to virtue signal.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 I think the Jays will get fair value for Happ but it will be a lot less than people think. In other words, rentals don't go for what they used to, and Happ is clearly not a difference making level talent (good pitcher but that's about it). If we get a couple of B/B- level prospects, that's probably what I'd expect, nothing more. Now, if we were trading Happ and JD last trade deadline, when they both had an additional year of control, we might have been having a different convo.

Now, if we were trading Happ and JD last trade deadline, when they both had an additional year of control, we might have been having a different convo. If we would have traded JD after his MVP season when he had like 3 years of control left or whatever it was we could have gotten a haul. Should have traded Sanchez after his ERA crown, Stroman before this year, Osuna right before he was arrested, etc.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 JD and Happ being traded last year would not have been selling high, just a realistic option given how bad the team was last year. Not quite the same as trading JD after he won the MVP.
Todd Verified Member Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 I believe it's time for the blue jays to trade as many old players as possible. And start working towards becoming one of the youngest teams in baseball. But as of right now kept a couple of players. Like Teoscar Hernandez, Aaron Sanchez, Roberto Osuna, Yandervis Solarte, Randal Grichuk. This does not include players that have been call up

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 Sounds like the A's are looking at being buyers at the deadline, and need SP.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 But you would require a good G.M with foresight to do something like that. That's why there's little reason to believe Shatkins will be able to take this team to the next level. This will be a middle of the pack team for a while.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 package Donaldson Pillar Happ and Stro And Give AA in Atlanta a call !!! Sure Good pieces come Back !!! Soroka , Allard ... and 2 or 3 more arms maybe a Burrows Davidson Ynoa !
flafson Verified Member Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 People would rather qualify Happ and take a nothing pick Happ isn't getting 50M in free agency and at this point if I were him, I'd take a qualifying offer, so I doubt the front office does that.
