LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I would flip Stroman straight up for Gray. Rockies were High on Stroman, they still might be, throw in Pillar if you want. Heck throw in Happ Gray is 2013 Jake Arrieta. Stroman, Happ and Pillar for Gray. Outstanding asset management.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Sanchez seems like a FIP beater type so the Rockies would probably love him. Maybe there’s something there if/when he ever gets healthy.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 He's a flyball pitcher, FIP beater or not, and he is? Since when is Sanchez a fly ball pitcher? He has over 50% GB rate. Put a good defence behind him and he's the type who can beat his FIP (lots of grounders, average K rate).

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Selling off some vets and then trading for Jon Gray at the same time would be so awesome. I'm sure there are a bunch of teams trying to pry Jon Gray away. Yankees probably going to be all over him.
MarcoSanchez Verified Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I honestly think Stroman is about to go full Romero.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I honestly think Stroman is about to go full Romero. 95% of the fan base has thought this for 3-4 years.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 95% of the fan base has thought this for 3-4 years. Yet, is it true? I don't think so, he looks strong again.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Man am I anxious to see some stuff happening for this deadline. CUMMON ALREADY!
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Yet, is it true? I don't think so, he looks strong again. I feel like Stroman desperately needs a new pitching coach and a better tool system, like they have in Houston, to properly reach his potential. Stroman should be k'ing more than a batter per inning with his stuff, he's just not getting the correct advice, or it's just not getting explained to him effectively.
el diego Verified Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Stroman's 'stuff-to-result' conversion is wack. I have this uber athletic buddy (let's call him Buddy) who has no mentals/focus and we always joke about how if you put yourself into Buddy's body then you'd probably be in the NFL right now. I'm starting to get that same vibe from Stroman, but instead of putting yourself in his body, give yourself his pitch repertoire.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 95% of the fan base has thought this for 3-4 years. I think you have that opposite. 95% of the"intelligent" fanbase knows that he's a talented pitcher but is a dbag.
metafour Verified Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I don't get the Stroman/Romero comparison at all. Romero would go on wild streaks wherein he couldn't even hit the strike zone, when he "fell apart" his walk rates were brutal. If anything, Stroman's issue is often throwing too many strikes ("pitching to contact").
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I feel like Romero fell apart because he was the exact opposite of Stroman mentally. Stroman is annoying off the field but he lays it out there when he plays. I really doubt he'd fall apart without some sort of injury. Romero fell apart because of knee issues.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Yeah unless I am misremembering, Romero fixed his walk issues for the most part (2009-11), but when his knees got messed up, then his control went to s***, and that's what ended his effectiveness.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Never realized that Ricky was still pitching in the minors as recently as last year...
MarcoSanchez Verified Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Romero fell apart because of knee issues. Shorter pitchers have knee issues. They are putting more stress on their knees

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Apparently the Yanks won't offer Sheffield or Frasier in a deal for Machado - so we can all safely remove the Frasier for Happ pipe dream from our thoughts. It appears the days of selling rentals for top prospects is officially over.

Wonder if Cashman would trade Medina for Happ. Thats the type of prospect a team might be able to steal from Cashman since he’s years away from the bigs with no performance to rely on yet.

It appears the days of selling rentals for top prospects is officially over. I don't think that's true. Some GM's like Cashman will be extremely reluctant. But one team will always swoop in and offer the most to get something done. Yankees aren't getting Machado without a top prospect going back its not happening. And we definitely won't get Frazier for Happ but another team will swoop in and give us a pretty good prospect. Provided he doesn't continue to implode in July.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Can we QC Happ? The whole "can't QC someone twice" thing is always hard to track. I'd rather get a draft pick than a nothing prospect.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 If we're trading with the Yankees, I want Roansy Contreras as part of the return.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 If we're trading with the Yankees, I want Roansy Contreras as part of the return. Yeah gotta get the low minors lottery tickets. Cashman is too smart to trade the higher level ones so have to hope he trades some of the 18-19 year old's that are far away and develop them.
