admin Site Manager Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 The Jays currently have three pitchers in the top five for ERA. Do you think a Jays pitcher can win the Cy Young this year? Kluber 11-8 3.22ERA 3.29xFIP 4.4WAR Quintana 9-8 2.85ERA 4.04xFIP 3.7WAR Sanchez 11-2 2.85ERA 3.48xFIP 3.4WAR Hamels 12-3 2.89ERA 3.88xFIP 2.1WAR Estrada 7-5 2.95ERA 4.46xFIP 2.6WAR Happ 16-3 2.96ERA 3.98xFIP 2.7WAR Britton 34SV 0.57ERA 1.92xFIP 1.7WAR Going with six man rotation may hurt the Jays as they will have 1-2 less starts than some of the others.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Starting pitching options are lacklustre. Nothing jumps out I'd have to go with Britton
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 s***-disturbing vote for Britton
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 If Happ wins 20, I think he's a lock but if he doesn't, Britton will win it. Britton's season is probably the best by a reliever ever atm (Not that I think wins should really matter but that's how they vote sometimes)
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 It's hard to decide who the best starter is this year It's easy to decide who the best RP/closer is and it's by a huge margin It may actually come to that with the starters splitting the vote too much for any of them to win it
admin Site Manager Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 I think if Happ goes like 22-5 he'll probably get it, assuming ERA is still down. I find it pretty crazy we have three SP in the top five and we aren't ten games in first place.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Cole Hamels seems like a great bet to win. Traded at the deadline last year, AL West Champs, Rangers ACE, ERA under three. Makes for a great story.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 If a Jay wins though it would be Happ I think. If he gets to 21-22 wins he has a legit shot, probably.

He only walked four the whole season. 0.61ERA. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1003660&position=P
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Hopefully Britton blows up soon so I can stop hearing his name.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 1-Happ 20 game winah 2-Sanchez ERA leadah
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Happ really shouldn't be in the conversation, but at this rate, he will be. If he lands at like 22 wins with an ERA under 3, the voters will blow their collective loads.

In the last couple months he's probably been the best pitcher in baseball. In his last seven starts he's given up six earned runs.

And neither of them should have.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 This thread makes Shatkins look like gods. Resigned Estrada to a cheap two year deal. Brought in Happ on a reasonable deal. Put Sanchez in the rotation even though the bullpen was a very worthwhile decision. Now we have a thread where we are discussing all 3 as CY contenders. I don't even think I can vote right now. It's too garbled as it is. On top of it you have to try and think like a baseball writer who often vote like dinosaurs. Happ's W-L record is pretty top notch so he has a real chance. Sanchez' W-L record is good too though he needs to add some wins in coming weeks. Tough call right now.
King Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Happ is on cruise control right now. Since july 3rd he's pitching ~43 innings, ~11.5 K/9, ~2.5 BB/9, ~1.25 ERA, ~2.3 xFIP Very encouraging and fun to watch
admin Site Manager Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 Last year the two pitchers with the highest win totals won. And neither of them should have. That's why I think he'll win, as long as he doesn't bomb. Finish around 21-23wins and say 5 losses. Hard not to give it to him, especially with everyone else so similar. Or as someone mentioned, Britton wouldn't surprise me either since there's quite a few SP having good seasons, but no one really standing out from the rest.

This was already being worked on before he was on board, but I suppose the casual fan could attribute it all to him. However I think the casual fan also still wishes AA was still here.
flafson Verified Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Britton won't win the Cy Young Award. Imagine if the 3 runs he gave up proved to cost him 2 saves, none would look at him then even though he would still considered to be elite closer.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Britton won't win the Cy Young Award. He's not even the best reliever in the AL. Betences is having a great year but dem savez
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Last reliever to win a Cy Young was Eric Gagne in 2003 and he posted a 4.7 WAR. Britton won't even reach that this season.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 He's not even the best reliever in the AL. Betences is having a great year but dem savez Won't even reach 100 + K's this season, so I don't see how he is even considered.
