No this is clearly a mechanical one. They changed his arm positioning and he was wild. I see good things though.

His mechanics look good from what I remember. I can't go back to an archived game on MLB.tv to check (is MLB.com not working for you guys too?), but he's still getting good rotation and I don't think they changed his arm slot from what I remember. I do vaguely remember him being different though I see what you mean.

His gather is different now, but the results were still relatively poor in his 1st start with the lowered arm gather. That said, his velocity was up a lot in that start, even touching 95 several times.

Since he won't be changing his philosophy anytime soon, hopefully his control is better today, it'll definitely need to be against Cleveland.

Does gather really make that big a difference?

I would say so. More moving parts allows for more areas of the windup to be thrown out of timing. As a result, pitch control, velo, spin rate, etc will be effected to varying degrees.

Very encouraging start yesterday! That slider looked like the mint 2014 one with the last minute break, and sprinkling in the high 4SM for that K was beautiful!

If this is a sign of things to come, then I'm stoked for his next start.

Biggest ting today, other than his control, was his pitch selection. After being hit hard and gave up that run, he finally bought into ditching the sinker as a 2 strike pitch and went with his sharp breaking ball. Most of his Ks came on that and it added something new that even if he missed with a breaking ball, he could throw a sinker out of the zone resulting in a weak grounder... Which is exactly what Stroman was doing before. Glad he's finding his way out of his funk! Now he's gotta replicate it, can't wait until vs. royals

Great analysis!

I hope to see this Stroman vs the Royals instead of the one in the ALCS.

Given we hit this when he sucks, we need to hit it when he doesn't.

I didn't see the whole game but what I did see I liked. Used of the 4S up in the zone touching 95 again. Sharp breaking balls down and in to Hosmer etc. GB% was huge.

The HR was a flat 2S center cut that was a mistake meatball he left up and knew it. His FB command was much better overall.

We have to be pretty happy with that against a so-so line up.

can't remember where I saw it but last night was the first time where his sinker wasn't the most used pitch (it was his cutter)

Marcus Stroman is rocking a 84 xFIP-. Which is tied with Danny Salazar and slightly behind Madison Bumgarner.

He's going to be just alright.

I think so too, but I think Walker and the Jays have been pretty concerned from listening to his interview Tues on BC. The amount of hard contact he has given up is a concern. He has made some adjustments that seem to be effective for him.

3.91 FIP and 1.8 WAR. 15% HR/FB

I missed yesterday's game, but the start before that you can after the first couple innings something was different about him. Just seemed like he was more confident and everything was working. The more he made pitches the more confident he got and the better he got.

Stro threw only 1 pitch below 86 yesterday.

It was effective. He threw everything, including his breaking balls, harder in 2014.

It was not his cutter...the cutter was his least used pitch along with the changeup and curveball. I think he threw 1 cutter the whole game. He has become almost completely a 2 seam and slider pitcher. He did work in 5ish 4 seam fastballs, a cutter or two, and I think 3 curveballs from what I saw. He has basically just gone with his best 2 pitches.

Pretty spot on. The Slider has been super effective and made his 2SM that much better.

hes f***ing trash

seriously send him down for a couple starts and give hutch 1-2 starts

So Stroman kinda sucks a big bag of dicks

Tonight looked like he tossed out all of the big strides he made the past 2 starts. I guess that vacation did him no favours.

Remember when Casey Jansen went to Cuba at the all-star break.

Never the same again
