I've thought before that he might shy aware from his 4SM fastball because he's concerned about all three of a) the pitch's lack of movement, B) the lack of downward plane because of his height, and c) the decline in velo. We don't really know that it wouldn't get hit hard if he started using it often.

Could be a confidence thing.... i'm thinking it could be an issue of how his arm is responding to his different pitches. We, and Stro, know he has a devastating arsenal, can't think of another reason why he wouldn't be using it to his advantage.

Agree. His 4 Seam has been a pretty bad pitch for him this year, 2nd worst to only the changeup. Why would you want to throw that more instead of his best pitch?

His command was the biggest issue not pitch selection or whatever BS some people keep saying. Simply he was falling behind in the count so often so he had to throw his fastball a lot to get back into the count. You aren't going to throw 2-0 sliders for strikes.

When he was ahead in the count he used his breaking ball so lets not go all crazy. Whats with the personal attacks on him anyway. Guy has a ton of passion and shows it, you should embrace someone like that. Not be sound like some loser on the Fan590 and say he should play the game the "white way"

Literally no one said or even remotely implied that.

His last start before this one he touched 95 at least twice with the 4S. With good location that should be plenty.

We don't know what would happen if he used it more in 2016 yet, but in 2014 he threw it a lot more and the results were quite good.

Re-watched a bit of last night's game. Basically he replaced the 2sm with the slider? lol

A pitch sequence that sums up his outing last night:

Pitch 1) Ball - Slider outside

Pitch 2) Ball - Changeup in the dirt

Pitch 3) Ball - Slider in the dirt

Trying to throw the slider for a strike early in the count way too often.

It's up to Walker and Martin to step in, AAA won't fix this.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the Kid!

But....

The coaches need to reign him in and tell him to throw what Martin calls for

No more Shaking him off!!!

Shame this he did not learn from

Papa B !!! Just pitch don't think.

Till you can back up the Ego and Hype

He thinks he is and your talk...

Put your head down.. Pitch and STFU!

I also believe if Shanchez is on a innings limit so should he be! Last year years innings pitched in actual games have them almost the same and Shanchez actually has the edge!

I think it is a fatigue issue, causing it!

What is he now 5x or close to it in innings pitched this year compared to last???

Maybe he needs a stint in the pen have Hutch or Chavez take a couple goes at Starting!!!

Gives him a chance to work on things and a breather to except he needs to embrace change to his style and game... right the Ship!!!

 You posts really confuse me at times. I am not trying to be argumentative, but I really don't get your meaning; do you agree or not?

I know you are a long time poster, but for the ones who have only been posting for a couple of years, and can get banned for replying to long time posters with "lol" please give better explanations.

Slider changeup isn't a good pitch sequence. Got rocked on the Khris Davis hr with that sequence as well.

He didn't replace the 2 seamer with the slider though, that's it. He threw, 51 sinkers.

I don't think Stroman threw a changeup?

Stroman wasn't good but he wasn't terrible either. His mechanics were off caused the 2 seam to be wild and the slider to be useless most of the night. But don't forget he pitched well enough to win the game. Hard hit gbdp right at Travis should have ended the 1st with 0 runs scoring but a bad bounce off Travis' shoulder leads to 1 run and another on a groundout. Martin's passed ball on a pitch over the middle of the plate moved a guy to 2nd who scored on a slow ground ball up the middle and the next batter got out so another run that shouldn't have scored. Carrera makes a horrible read on a routine flyball that 9/10 RFs catch and the ball just falls in, in front of Carrera (let's hope he never saw it cause if that was his read it was just beyond terrible). I think that runner scored on a homerun the next batter, so he should never had scored. That's 4 runs directly related to terrible defense or a horrible hop/luck. This is a team game and the team played horrible overall.

The 3 homeruns were bad but the first was just a horrible pitch selection. When the announcers are saying before the pitch....don't throw the breaking ball and then he does, someone screwed up that call (probably was Stroman), but it could have been avoided. The other 2 homeruns were just bad pitches.

I'm not saying there wasn't some circus in this game, but Stroman was clearly bad. A hard hit ground ball that bounces up on Travis and a line drive that Zeke doesn't bother making a play on don't mean he pitched "well enough to win" (which isn't a statement of quality anyway). It being a team game doesn't change the fact that Stro had 4 whiffs, one being Alonso's subjective checkswing K and another couple on the "prospect" making his MLB debut.

Overall, Stroman wasn't good but he pitched ok enough for us to win easily. Throw in the fact that he just took a 4 day vacation and didn't pitch during that time (most likely), I would say rust in terms of mechanics is the major problem Stroman had last night and should improve going forward.

He wasn't good but pitched okay? If the offense put up 3 runs, but Stro put up the same performance would you be soft praising him for being okay enough to win? A 4-day vacation doesn't change the fact that he was bad, or that he seemed to be doing the exact same thing that was getting him lit before he had two consecutive decent starts before the break.

Guess I wasn't close. Skimmed through the game. Looked like slider changeup, but I guess it was sinker slider, my bad.

I can't be the only one that's seeing the obvious correlations here. Now that's doesn't mean causation, but it's certainly enough to say "wtf are you doing kid?"

Interesting, Thanks!!!

Just what I thought even looking at the first chart. He fell in love with that sinker and it is actually is his worst pitch. Take it away from him or its use should be very very very limited!!!

Is that his Double play inducing pitch?

This is pretty damning.

Is that his Double play inducing pitch?

It's the pitch he uses to set up scenarios so that he can practice inducing double plays.

Is that his Double play inducing pitch?

It's rapidly becoming his "soon to be out of the rotation" pitch if he doesn't pull his head out of his ass.

It worked for him in a small sample last year because he hadn't really thrown it as a primary pitch prior, just as a differnet look. The league has adjusted to it, it's not that good a pitch for him, and he needs to get bak to what made him successful. This isn't it
