TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I don't know if this should make us depressed or hopeful. The 1911 White Sox ended up 3 games over .500 (+94) 47' Indians +6 (+99) 1885 A's -2 (+73) 75 NYY +6 (+93) of note the 48 Indians won the WS and the Yankees won two years after their unlucky season.
LTR Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 What's an acceptable package for Samardzija? 2 months of Samardzija isn't worth much. At best he probably gives you 2 wins over an whatever else the Blue Jays are throwing out there. What are you willing to give up for 2 more wins? Personally I wouldn't trade any top prospects... maybe one B grade prospect and one C grade prospect.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 For all the people who were excited about the Tigers, O's and Rays dropping out of the race voluntarily, the Orioles have decided that they're buyers.

Nothing major though and by all account the CSW want much more than that

Nothing major though and by all account the CSW want much more than that They can want whatever they like, nobody should be stupid enough to trade a top prospect... unless maybe they are absolutely convinced it's enough to tip the scale and get them to the play-offs... but as we all know there are no certainties in baseball so it's stupid either way.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 AA is only making Norris and Boyd available. Everyone else is off limits.
nmrch Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 So in other words I should be depressed is what you're saying? Good points on all fronts although you do come across as a preachy *******. But don't teams that kick some serious ass over the first 100 games tend to do better over the next 62 games than teams who sucked over the first 100? Run differential isn't a great prediction of future vents but if we keep outscoring teams at the pace we are, we should do much better. I do disagree that our shot at a wild card is marginal though. After the division leaders and the Astros we've got a better chance than anybody. Sorry if i am across as an *******. Its just that I really don't think much of this team and i'm strongly against AA being allowed to mortgage the future just to save his ass. And this run differential nonsense is being used a prime example to "go for it". I'm 99% sure that AA will be fired if we miss the playoffs, the new President and GM should be allowed to impose their own vision on the team and that means keeping the prospect cupboard filled and not saddling them with an old team that has no more than .500 potential. So in a way Rogers penny pinching has been helpful, AA can't make many trades with taking on atleast some salary so his ability to make trades is limited but you never know with him.

No worries, it's all good. With Rogers at the helm will anything change though? They'll likely just hire someone else who has one foot in and one foot out when it comes to advanced statistics. It'll be more of the same s***, hell it could be worse.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Victorino goes to the Angels. Not much of a big deal.. Victorino is pretty worthless right now, and I bet Boston had to eat money. And Rutledge isn't a prospect.. he'll basically just replace Jemile Weeks on the Sox roster tomorrow, and is a horrible defensive infielder. Why do you think the Angels refused to give him a chance?
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Victorino goes to the Angels. Nice, what's left of his contract?

pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Run differential is only a measure of the effect of luck IN THE PAST, it has little predictive value for what it says about the future. Even when measuring past luck its a flawed statistic, baseruns vs actual runs is a more valid way to measure bad luck/good luck and they say the Jays have been unlucky but not as much as the run differential would have you believe. And having a positive run differential in the past does not mean that your team will start playing better, its frustrating to see even smart people promote this kind of thinking. A positive run differential means nothing, it has no predictive value, only projections do and they say the Jays are a .500 team with a marginal shot at the second wildcard and a slim hope at the division. The Jays excellent run differential so far doesn't mean they'll be a good team moving forward, it doesn't even mean they'll be a decent team. To say a positive run differential means nothing is so so flawed. Of course it means something and a higher number is typically correlated with better results. In this case it's representative of the fact that the Jays have a prolific offense and it's that fact that has projections giving them a decent chance of grabbing a wild card spot. Improve the team in an area of need and those projections become even more favourable.

Swervin81 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 RHP Prospect Casey Meisner I have him projected to be a number 4 guy going forward. I just don't like that move for the Mets.

At best, Clippard will likely be setting up Familia.. and the Mets really should be looking for another bat, as they need one if they're going to catch the Nats in the NL East.

Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Question about EE 10/5 rights. I recall him being picked up by Oakland on waivers a few years ago before the jays grabbed him back. Did he have to play a game for Oakland for the 5 years with same team to be voided?

Swervin81 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 The Dickey trade? Certainly seems to be going in that direction, and that's really mostly Thor. TDA, I'm not too salty losing, since we now have Martin and D'Arnaud may not be able to stick at C with all the injuries mounting, but Thor is definitely the gigantic blow. I wasn't here on these boards at the time (posted elsewhere), but I was beyond angry at Syndergaard being included. I understood D'Arnaud - you gotta give to get and there were injury question marks and doubts he'd stick at C, but losing Syndergaard is what really made it overkill and just made me hate the trade in general.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Nice, what's left of his contract? Just under $5M left this season.

One thing that the board was pretty unanimous on was that the large majority of us could see, easily, that Syndergaard seemed like a better guy to keep than Sanchez. We can't know for sure but seemed the organizational never really caught on to that.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Alexis Brudnicki #BlueJays also looking at #Padres James Shields. No top prospects off the table, all potentially up for grabs.
