  1. We're also top 8 in BB% & K%, while being bottom 3rd in BABIP (which is going to drag down R, OPS, RISP, etc.). The lack of power so far is concerning - no doubt about that. Fortunately, things like RISP average are very fickle and subject to a lot of luck.
  2. The Jays have problems with all pitching.
  3. It's still super early, but: Jung Hoo Lee - 92 wRC+ Chapman - 82 wRC+ Snell - 12.86 ERA, BB/9 over 5 Bellinger - 75 wRC+ Moreno - 86 wRC+
  4. I mean, we're tied for 10th in wRC+ and offensive WAR. Not bad when it feels like the offense is still asleep.
  5. um - that wouldn't be my playbook at all? My playbook would be the team all the information and they, along with a veteran like Gausman determined he was ready to compete and give the team innings at the ML level (better innings than the alternatives like Mitch White would have). Were they wrong? Has he had some bad luck in his early starts? I'd suggest you can't just look at the results to make that determination. I also think veteran guys like Gausman and Swanson impact these decisions. They know their bodies and should have good understanding of when they're ready to compete and contribute at the ML level.
  6. I think the issue is....he already made the adjustment! Why didn't he just stick with the 2021 mechanics? Did his big gut cause changes in 2022? We'll never know.
  7. Always an interesting debate. I think this new approach developed because they thought working the s*** out of them was already causing too many injuries. Either way, I fully expect the primary cause of this is the increased velocity and effort on every pitch. And some of that will be outside of the teams control as prospects spend the offseason at Driveline, throwing non-stop, looking for velo gains because very few pitchers are successful in the majors throwing 90-92 anymore. No idea what the solution is, but the numbers support it. Throw hard and you won't get hit hard. Just look at the number of extra base hits allowed v. 100 MPH+ pitches...and the scary thing is that hitters continue to get better and better and better v. that type of velocity!
  8. If you want to cheer for a team that doesn't use computers and analytics - maybe check out the Rockies, or some of the other teams near the bottom of the standings every year. Seriously. Those are the teams using "common sense" and "gut feelings" the most.
  9. How much control do you think a GM has over a pitcher getting injured? I mean Ricky had a large velo jump after joining the Jays. Were the Jays responsible for it? Is that the reason he's made of glass (it probably is)? Should they have kept him throwing 92-93 to keep him healthier and capped his ceiling as a #5 starter or bullpen arm instead of a top of the rotation option or closer? Either way - it sucks. Ricky's ceiling has come crashing down.

  11. You know there will be several people who blame Atkins for not developing Ricky into the next Chris Sale.
  12. Just asking, but can they use Pearson B2B? He's only done it 4 times in his ML career - with s***** results. It was really unfortunate he was caught in the numbers game as the early results have been great (although the statcast #'s aren't as rosie).
  13. Must be the FO's fault. They probably thrust him into pitching when he wasn't ready yet.
  14. I'm sorry you're unable to understand the differences and the nuances of the discussion. Being a tampon must be a difficult condition to live with.
  15. I find this interesting. There were lots of people who wanted the Jays to let Gausman build up his stamina in the majors (after he looked good in his minor league tune ups). You think he still should be in AAA right now? Did you want him shutdown when he couldn't hit 90 MPH in his 2nd start? His BABIP is sky high and his LOB% is horrendous. I certainly want him in the majors right now and wanted him on the mound yesterday v. the Yankees. Did you want Mitch White or Francis starting instead?
  16. That's fair. I probably do lean towards supporting the FO too much, because they have a lot more information than I do. I think it's because in general, I'm sick of the general public questioning almost decision made while having next to no information. Too many people unknowingly sit atop Mount Stupid in all facets of life. I deal with lots of councils through my work and I see them over and over again, choosing not to listen to the experts. We have people who own flower shops going against sound engineering judgement for no apparent reason other than that's what their gut says to do or 1 article they read on Google that morning. It's ridiculous. I think it's clear that I'm all for having good conversations about baseball and I'm open to admitting when I'm wrong. I'm not overly interested in comments like "Swanson struggled in AAA and thus obviously wasn't ready to be called up". Comments based solely on results are pretty dumb IMO. Even if the logic is spot on, players will fail from time to time. No decision comes with any guaranteed results. If we just went with results and with what the reactionary people on this board wanted - then Varsho would have been benched already and wouldn't be leading the team in WAR right? Also - I've been pretty firm that I'm pleased with the results of this FO. We've been to the playoffs in 3 of the last 4 years and missed out on going 4 for 4 by 1 game. I do believe playoff results are a crap shoot and I don't place a lot of value on them. Accordingly, this has been one of the most successful runs for the Blue Jays in the past 30 years from my perspective. So - would I support the FO of the White Sox the same as I would the Jays? No, no I would not (by the way, I used to be a HUGE White Sox fan back in the 90's and early 00's - Frank Thomas was my guy). Hope that helps. I can go back to throwing around moronic reactionary comments if you'd like?
  17. No - I won't. I called you that because based solely on his results, you suggested it was obvious he wasn't ready. It was classic armchair quarterbacking. I suspect the team believed Romano and Swanson were both ready to compete and contribute and were better options than White/Pearson and they wanted to have the best options available v. the Yankees. Did they get "caught" because Romano couldn't yet go B2B? Maybe. I don't think we know whether they knew Romano couldn't go B2B (or only the case of an emergency), or whether he woke up Wednesday morning and told JS he was tender or something. We also don't know when it became apparent that Green shoulder was sore. Either way, I probably want Romano closing out Tuesday's game than having him rehab longer and prove he can go B2B in AAA. If they knew Green was sore before they activated Romano and Swanson - then I'd agree that keeping kept Pearson up here and staggered the callups would likely have been preferred (even though Pearson has only pitched B2B like 4 times in his career with bad results). Seems doubtful that was the case though? We aren't talking about this if Swanson pitches a clean inning v. the bottom of the Yankees lineup. Or if Green's shoulder isn't sore and he closes it out. Or if our offense scored more runs, or if we got blown out yesterday. At the end of the day, the team felt Swanson gave them a better chance to win than Pearson. Swanson sucked, so people create a narrative that obviously he wasn't ready, or we start looking at AAA rehab numbers and other stupid s*** to justify a mistake. People are also acting like Pearson is some lockdown, surefire closer who couldn't possibly have failed in that situation because he mowed down the Rockies in his last game (and he isn't some 27 year old failed prospect with a career xFIP and FIP over 5). It's a game of inches - if that line drive goes into IKF's glove, instead of off it - or if Clement comes up with that ball at 3rd - it's a different conversation. Did you guys want the best arms available for the Yankees series? I sure did. The FO has significantly more information than we do, so yes, I give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm sorry that type of logic isn't supported by some.
  18. Fangraphs just dropped the article on Colorado's top prospects. I'm saddened to see that Zac Veen appears to be a bust. I do remember salivating over video's of his swing before the draft. Somehow, he has no power?
  19. Trout with his 8th HR tonight also. So amazing to see him off to a dominating start. It's so good for baseball.
  20. This is correct. I mean guys like KK and Varsho from the left side and maybe Clement from the right side have a chance, but nobody else does. It was a great play by Volpe.
  21. I think that's fair too - but god knows if we left Romano and Swanson in AAA and had to use Pearson and White last night and today - and either of them failed - the same people would be freaking out, suggesting we're better off to have Romano and Swanson up helping the big club v. the Yankees - even if they can't throw B2B yet. You just f***ing know people would be saying that.
  22. There's the heavy flow fan - right on que.
  23. That is a fair comment. You are handcuffing yourself somewhat if they can't go B2B (although you'd obviously rather have 1 of them over Mitch White whether they can throw B2B or not). That said, maybe Romano they thought Romano could throw B2B and he simply didn't bounce back will after last night and told JS he couldn't go. Who knows. We also don't know if Swanson can/could go B2B as he didn't throw last night.
  24. f***stick - I'm just saying the team has WAYYYY more information on whether or not Swanson was ready than any of us do. They had Pearson throwing well and had no reason to rush Swanson back. The inning Swanson threw in AAA doesn't mean much guys - you should know that....that's like suggesting spring training stats matter. I also wasn't suggesting you specifically was armchairing it...but several did f***ing tampons everywhere.
  25. The team has been monitoring Swanson for weeks now. Bullpens, side sessions, live BP, AAA inning, etc. and they determine he's ready to go. Obviously he sucked today. But to armchair it and suggest he clearly wasn't ready (watching ONLY what he did today) is silly. Pearson was throwing well....don't we think if they though Swanson needed more work they would have left him in AAA?
