  1. To be fair - I think this is the approach in most good MLB stadiums these days. It's all about the experience - even if most of of that doesn't include watching the game. I've been to several stadiums in the upper east half of the US and that theme seemed pretty consistent. If you watch The Saint of Second Chances, you'll see this approach started decades ago. The White Sox team was f***ing horrible at baseball, but they were able to fill the stadium anyway.
  2. That is true. I wonder if that's just a coincidence or not. It's not like I heard Semien talk about how Dante was responsible for his turn around (that saved his career). But it was Vlad's, Teo's and Espinal's best year at the plate. It wasn't Bo's, Springer's, Gurriel's or Jansen's best year. The biggest difference in 2021 is we generally had everyone hitting. The only guys that s*** the bed that year were Grichuk (545 PA's, 85 wRC+) and Biggio. I struggle with this mentality. If a player improves due to offseason changes, the Jays coaches are not responsible, but if a player doesn't improve, or gets worse, the Jays coaches are primarily responsible? Are the Braves hitting coaches to blame for Acuna's horrendous start to this season? Are the Leafs skating coaches to blame for their s***** playoff performances? It would be fascinating to see just how much impact all these secondary coaches have on the actual results. Suspect we'll never know.
  3. I suspect that's a very good decision by the Jays. Teo's savant page gets colder every year and this could be the 4th year in a row his K% increases...
  4. Barger's AAA success is translating so well at the ML level that it is really odd they haven't called up Horwitz yet.
  5. What did the Braves hitting coach do to Acuna? Pool noodle bat that's now striking out almost 28% of the time? Why would they change what he was doing? Crazy.
  6. Who's their hitting coach? God himself? Yelich is back from the dead at age 32, Turang goes from being a sub 100 wRC+ hitter in the upper minors to Ryan Goins last year (60 wRC+) to an all-star this year. William Contreras is one of the best hitting catchers in baseball (AA is regretting that move). Joey Ortiz looks like a stud. What a start for the Brew Crew.
  7. I would have swore we were 7-10 games under .500 already.
  8. I'm just saying the Jays could have signed the #1 FA/Player in all of baseball and it won't be enough to overcome how s***** the core has unpredictably been this year. Of all the FA hitters this year, Turner has been one of the very best with a 154 wRC+. They did bring in one of the best bats available and these are the results. The core has sunk the team. Must be that Vladdy curse that we end up with the 5th percentile results from Vlad/Bo/Kirk/Springer. I don't think anyone in their right mind ever would have predicted this result. Atkins literally could have signed Chapman, Bellinger, Garver and Solar. All the pop we hoped for - or we could have landed Ohtani. Fans would have praised Atkins for his efforts to address the offense....and we'd still be a flaming pile of dog s*** right now.
  9. Lourdes is at 105 wRC+ (same as last year). No way I wanted him for $42M over 3 years. Teo is coming back to earth too. He's only at a 121 wRC+ with a 33% K rate. I'm not so sure either of these guys are going to be major impact players this years. They certainly wouldn't have fixed the Jays offensive woes.
  10. FFS...the Jays literally could have signed Ohtani and the offense would still been awful (especially since Turner wouldn't have been on the team). The offense is s*** because Bo, Vlad, Kirk and Springer are all terrible. Raise your hand if you knew Bo was going to turn into Ryan Goins with a 62 wRC+ this year... IMO, the FO banked on Vlad and Kirk improving in a predictable manner for hitters with their pedigree and age - and, well - here we are getting the 5th percentile result. IMO, it was a very difficult position to be in. You either sold Vlad and Kirk at 50 cents on the dollar or you trust they improve in accordance with statistical data. I mean we could have sold Varsho for 50 cents on the dollar this offseason too....but I'm happy we didn't. I'm sad to see Springer fall off this cliff. When we signed him, he seemed like a good candidate to age gracefully....moving from CF to RF, with some old man hitting skills that should keep him relevant past 35 or 36. Sometimes you get Justin Turner or Nelly Cruz and other times you're just done. The Cards probably feel the same with Goldy, Astros with Abreu. It sucks. You can blame the hitting coaches all you want if it makes you feel good. I strongly believe those coaches have a MUCH smaller impact on the player results than you think. Do you guys think after the Leafs exit the 1st round again, they should fire their skating coaches and shooting coaches? Me neither. Atkins and Schneider won't survive this season, but I'm not so sure there was some other GM wizard out there who would have done drastically better, given these circumstances. Imagine if Atkins signed Ohtani and was run out of town the same year. It almost happened!
  11. Buck is awful. He hates the state of baseball and takes ever opportunity he can to tell you about the way things used to be. He also tells you something that's completely wrong almost every single game. I assume he's a a fan favorite to casual fans who don't really know the game well.
  12. An element of our s***** offense that nobody talks about is base running. Turner and Kirk playing a lot to start the year obviously drag it down, but other than that, we should have a solid base running team. We're currently 4th worst in baseball. It's not acceptable. I thought changing up the 3rd base coach would help, but it hasn't. Pretty sad unfortunately.
  13. While it may have taken a week or 2 longer than fans wanted, it certainly appears that Davis Schneider is now a fulltime starter for this team.
  14. I will be interesting to see how this plays out for the a Top 3 FO in baseball.
  15. Yeah - I'm on board with that. It's really sad, as the guys we had big questions marks about coming into the year like Varsho, Schneider - even Turner, IKF, etc. have all exceeded expectations. It's Vlad, Bo, Kirk and Springer who are responsible for this. They have s*** the bed completely. I'm still fairly convinced that Bo will hit. He's streaky, but he has such a proven record that unless he's playing hurt, he should hit. I'm not as optimistic about the rest. Who's to blame for this? I think a HUGE % of it is on the players.
  16. Ragans lives in the woodshed. He just sits there, waiting for his next victim to come walk in every 5 days. Texas must feel sick that they gave up Ragans last year.
  17. Best connect jerseys I've seen so far.
  18. Is this true? But he is a huge bust, so what's he shhhhh'ing now?
  19. Maybe cotton uniforms would work better?
  20. Double stroke. Impressive he's still sharing his opinions professionally
  21. You say that like it's a bad thing.
  22. Who is convinced they are right about anything?
  23. Your concern means so much to me CD. I just put the knife down after reading your thoughtful post.
  24. I wouldn't wait a second longer. Would LA give up Frasso?
  25. Correct. The board would be better without several of dipshits - you included. You think that opinion and comment is moronic? Welcome to how most of us feel when Jays24 or you post. Enjoy it.
