Yeah this Royals series won't be easy seeing as we are starting Taillon, Scherzer and Spaghetti. 

Luckily, we miss their top two starters in Wacha and Cameron and face Lynch, Lugo and Dobnak instead. And the Royals are finally cooling off having lost 3 of their last 4.

If we can win this series, we will be in great shape as we've got some good pitching matchups in our favor against the lowly A's.

13-8 gets you to 83-79. WC3 will not be .500 so that gives you a margin of error of 1 game. I know Texas for sure has the tie breaker, not sure vs the Indians

With so many teams fighting for basically 1 WC spot, I think it's highly unlikely that 83 wins is enough. You have to expect that one of Cleveland, Texas or Baltimore will finish strong. I think 84 wins is likely the bare minimum to get in maybe even 85. We definitely have a decent shot and the schedule is in our favour but we literally can't take a single series off the rest of the way. The next 2 series against the Royals and As we need to win 4 of 6, preferably 5. Both those teams are basically out of it so they will be playing loose with no pressure on them. Baltimore we need to at least split those 6 games so we hold on to the tiebreaker, and then take 2 of 3 from Texas, Detroit and Cincy. That gets us to 84 wins and I think would be enough especially since we would hold the tiebreaker against both Cleveland and Baltimore in this scenario. Texas is honestly the team that scared me the most. They have a fairly easy schedule and hold the tiebreaker against us no matter what we do in that last series against them since they swept us 4-0 in June. I see that series as an absolute must win vs them. We aren't in the worst position but let's not kid ourselves, getting that last WC spot is still gonna be extremely tough. We basically have little to no margin for error and are gonna need one of the best September's in franchise history.

Well in order for 85 wins to get WC3 someone is going to have to on a real heater and play .700+ baseball

Texas already won the season series against the Jays,. Getting 4 game swept at home against them was very costly. The Jays have already won the SS against the Guardians, and need to go 3-3 against the O's to win that tiebreaker. So the Rangers are really the biggest issue here. Even though the Jays can't win the SS against them, they probably have to sweep that series or at least win 2/3 later this month.

Astros and even the White Sox are holding on to pretty slim leads. There's a chance that those two could fall flat on their face down the stretch, thus opening up other paths for the Jays to make it still.

Why did that thread get closed?  I think threads should be closed for far right politics or extreme personal attacks on mods.   Also threads can be closed if a poster is starting multiple similar threads in a short time. 

Maybe yours was closed because they mistook it as the latter?  Like they thought you opened it today and it was redundant with the playoff tracker.

That thread was started in early July as you had the foresight to understand even though the Jays had a 1% playoff probability at the time, ALDS was a sure thing. 

Whatever the case I predicted a Perry/Miles piggy back.   Apparently Laika says Perry's stuff probably isn't that interesting to call up from AA.  I'll change it to Yesavage/Miles piggy back dependent on a sweep in the ALWC.  If ALWC goes three it will be Spencer Spaghetti who will have the game of his life.

I can see a scenario where the white sox lose first place to Cleveland. I have a tougher time believing the Rangers or Mariners will surpass Houston despite Houston's really difficult schedule, unless 80 wins is enough to win that division.

I think Seattle is too far back, though there's still a chance. Texas still has a legit shot at making up 2 games given the difference in schedules.
