It's mid-June, Jays are 34-37. If things don't turn around soon we have to think about selling. Toronto should be able to move 75-100 million in contracts and add 6 or 7 prospects to stack our farm system.

Gausman be the big fish. He should return two, if not three solid prospects. Springer we might get a B prospect for. Bieber could return a decent prospect. Varsho return should be good. Giminez if we lucky enough to move his contract. That's five, did I miss anybody?

This would be a valid convo if we were in the NL where wed be slightly above the Mets.

We're like 1 game back in the AL Wild Card and the 2 teams holding a wild card spot are the.Athletics and White Sox.  If things stand closely to where we are now, we are 100% buyers.

There is absolutely no way I’d trade Vlad.

But yea of course, if we are enough games out of the playoffs at the deadline we could sell.

I’d guess any reliever with less than two years control, all expirings. So, Gausman, Springer, Varsho, Garcia, Bieber, and then probably guys like Nance.

Maybe someone like Jesus Sanchez as well? Might be valuable for a contender and has some control.

Given how weak the AL has been, the Jays just need to get on a roll and they can cement themselves in one of the Wild Card spots.

And with the Yankees losing Judge long term, plus the possibility of the Rays cooling down, the AL East still isn’t completely out of the question. The Jays would obviously need to go on a big run to put themselves into that conversation, but if they can get within 4-5 games by the beginning of August, that would be a nice position to be in.

If they’re sitting in the third Wild Card spot, or only 1-2 games back, and their core guys are relatively healthy, they should probably add. I wouldn’t want them to just keep the status quo.

The only way they should sell is if they’re 5+ games back of the final Wild Card spot and dealing with several key injuries, which would make a comeback much harder to pull off. But if they’re still where they are now at the end of July (around 1.5 games back) I think they should add. Standing pat shouldn’t really be an option.

If the Jays are in the exact same spot they are now a month from now (under .500, 1-2 games back of a WC spot), then they are 100% going to be buyers. Whether that would be the smart play is another story.

As far as Vlad, I think doing a "Devers" style trade to off load him (preferably when his value is up a bit) would be the best long-term move they can make at some point over the next couple of years (before the decline starts to set in) but no chance it happens. Just have to figure out a way to build around him as you go year to year not knowing whether he's a 2-3 WAR player or a 6 WAR player.
