Think Kirk could outrun Eloy. Not that it mattered anyway in the end but damn

If dude tries to run any faster he’ll blow a hammy

He’s got Stanton speed

Why doesn't Tyler Rogers come into games with runners on more often (only once this year).  Like 1 out with runners on 1st and 3rd like tonight wouldn't a ground ball machine be a good call?

Im sure his answer will be that other guys were unavailable and that Nance needed some work….

A fair answer except idk why he tried to stretch him for a 2nd inning. Playing with fire

He always tries to be sneaky efficient but it burns him half the time. He's a stubborn man that's for sure.

I'd say Lauer's days as a Jay are nearing the end. Not pitching very good and becoming a malcontent in a very tight knit locker room it seems.

It seems inevitable at this point. Not sure why the dude is being such a primadonna

And with a couple SPs close to coming back he's going to have to go back to the pen more than likely, which won't make him any happier I would imagine.

If they hadn't brought in Corbin I'd say make him tough it out, because we could certainly use another solid pen/bulk arm option, but the whining must be getting tiresome.

Thats totally fair.  Lauer's a 5th/6th starter on a normal team and our 8th starter if everyone's healthy.  Hes just filling in due to injuries at the moment.  Should have different expectations for different players :)

Were you not pushing for him to be our high leverage lefty out of the pen this offseason? Or was that your brother?

Haha so salty because you look like a damn idiot for your Hoffman takes.  I mentioned not having a high leverage lefty out of the pen and a true closer as our gaps in the pen.

Lauer was supposed to be the long man out of the pen (our Yarborough pretty much) but i wouldnt have minded to see him getting a turn in that role out of necessity with only Little/Fluharty there.

We havent seen what Lauer would look like out of the pen due to our injuries.  I also wouldnt be a damn homer if he s*** the bed either lol.

So what do you think of Lauer’s poopoo stats lately? And how do you think his stuff will play up in the pen? I am curious

Hes obviously struggling but i have a soft spot for him because he stepped up huge when we needed him last year.  Hes only in the rotation right now because we have injuries but good luck finding a better 8th starter on most teams.

We need a long man out of the pen anyways so thats where id like him (as our Yarboroughl).  Obviously his stuff doesnt scream "high leverage" guy out of the pen but we dont have any lefties other than Fluharty so im sure he'd get opportunities by default anyways.  Then you let performance dictate where to go from there.

Since being sent to Buffalo, Little has pitched 7 scoreless innings, struck out 12 and walked 4. Also, 3-0

He'll be the new closer by June

If Hoffman and Little could get past their mental blocks and Yimi could stay healthy, the Jays bullpen would be absolutely deadly.

You can pretty much say this about any team's pen.

That's a bizarre statement.  I'm neither salty, nor was anything I said about Hoffman particularly wrong.

I'm just pointing out how hypocritical and inconsistent you are.  Nothing more.  Picking Eric Lauer as the hill you're willing to die on is certainly a choice.

Do you remember how long Devin Williams lasted as closer though? This isn’t really true

That's the point. Why do you think they traded for Bednar?

The Yanks have a winner's mentality or baseball heritage to use a Jose Mourinhoism. We used to have that in the glory years of the Labatt ownership. Hopefully, now that Ed Rogers has the keys to the castle, we are heading in that direction. On teams with a winning mentality, in any sport, if someone is not performing, they're gone, replaced, or they go get someone who's better. They don`t double down, they don't make excuses, they don't talk about culture, they act.

JS is more worried about hurting someone's feelings than winning ball games. That's now 4 games this year we have lost because he doubled down on a struggling pitcher.

Culture doesn't win you ball games, players who perform do.

Fisher was the right call there though? While groundballs are great, they have a higher chance of squeezing through a hole, you want strikeouts with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs. Fisher came in and did just that. The walk hurt him, but then he induced a weak .060 xBA bloop bases clearing double and then a pop up that Ernie played poorly. He did his job for the most part, just got crazy unlucky with the results.

I'm sorry, but this is nonsense. Rash decisions based on small sample sizes rarely work out in the long run. Baseball is a long grind full of statistical noise, and short-term results are often outside a player’s control.

That’s why you constantly hear players, coaches, and managers preach a level‑headed, consistent approach. You keep putting in consistent, process based work and don’t overreact to every high or low.  Will this approach be perfect?  Obviously not.

The nostalgia driven “winner’s mentality” narrative from 30+ years ago ignores how modern baseball actually works. Teams that consistently win now do so by trusting process, information, and probabilities - not by yanking players at the first sign of variance and calling it accountability.

Mistaking impatience for decisiveness doesn’t make a team smarter, it just makes outcomes noisier.  Overreaction isn’t a winning mentality; it’s how you lose the edge over a 162‑game season.  Culture doesn’t replace performance, but it’s what allows performance to stabilize instead of fluctuation turning into chaos.

We were inches away from winning the World Series last year and we heard all kinds of great benefits of the culture that JS has instilled in the clubhouse.  It's also a reason players now want to come to Toronto.

Anthony Volpe has an 85 career wRC+ and the cut throat Yankees have handed him the starting SS job for years.

The reality is that if players continue to PROJECT WELL then organizations will continue to give them opportunities and trust them. When exactly certain organizations will jump off the train of a declining player is just influenced by how their internal projection models differ, or perhaps how in tune they are to the root causes that might drastically influence future projections that the models are not picking up yet (scouting stuff and personal information, injuries, personality and so forth).

Jeff Hoffman's feelings are extremely irrelevant.

Nice speech, but if you keep rolling out the Tommy Nances and the Jeff Hoffmans of the world, you will lose ball games.
