Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 I think we all feel Bo will be a pretty good Second Baseman. He has good hands and he will make all those throws with ease. He no longer has to worry about anything deep in the hole or ranging far to his left. It will also result in much less ware and tear on the body which could make him an even better hitter. He's never been a butcher in the field. He's just not rangy or overly athletic which makes him not that suited to play Shortstop but he will make all the play hit at him. They were still a very good defensive team with him in the Lineup now they can be an even better one.

Nimmala and another say Juan Sanchez probably gets Alcantara. Now you still have the balance of the money that you would have used for Cease, to spend on upgrades elsewhere. End result, a far better 2026 Jays team. DonJays 1

If you view him as a top of the rotation arm with 2 years of control would you make that trade if you are the Marlins? You're looking more at Nimmala + King + potentially a lottery ticket. And if you get into that category of prospects wouldn't you rather go after Skubal if 2026 is the primary goal to have a much better Jays team?
SeranthonySantander Verified Member Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 if you compare Bo Bichette with other players I think he will basically have a body type like Mo Vaughn. He’s going to pack on the weight eventually. Young Mo looks just like Bo. So yea I think he can play 2nd fine but in 4-5 years he is probably a DH.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 Just sign a Chris Bassitt (or equivalent) then if the team is clicking again trade for the Cease type at the deadline? This is the luxury Toronto has after Bieber opted in and Yesavage had his breakout. 1-3 are accounted for. Don't need to be desperate to sign an SP2. Gen.Disarray 1

Dodgers are still 3.7 to 1 on betting odds. That’s far from sure. Technically they would get a World Series every 3.5-4 years based on those odds with their current team

Cody Ponce seems like an interesting potential value SP signing. His 2025 KBO season was more impressive than Fedde's 2023 KBO year, prior to Fedde having a 3+ win season in the bigs in 2024. Above average FB velocity and some mildly decent results before he left, might make him a bit more bankable than your typical arm coming from overseas. An aging Bassitt (or insert random journeyman 5th starter) and Gausman can end up on the IL early and then we're fcked. Can't take that chance. Have to match the Yankees formidable rotation from day one. Can't afford to wait until the deadline. The Jays have to judiciously use Lauer all season and put the Dodgers model of load management into practice for their starters. Try to lower the total number of ip before the playoffs to maximize peak performance at the optimal time. I think Atkins is going to go hard at a tor starter based on his comments today. So he is not only intriguing based on his pitching, but also still should be rather affordable

This is anticipating that both Gausman and Bieber stay healthy and that Yesavage continues his breakout. If one of Gaus or Bieber land on the IL for an extended period of time or if Yesavage struggles out of the gate, Jays could be in trouble. Need to get through the grind of 162 games first before the Postseason. Adding another SP2 wouldn't hurt to be honest. Jonn 1
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 I'd like to add Josh Naylor's bat to the middle of the lineup. Should be much cheaper than Bo yet easily makes up for his offense. It's just hard to make the positional fit work, without having DH bats wide open. We would have to move Vlad back to 3B (honestly he seems like a way better defender than when we moved him off but I still don't see it happening) and Ernie to 2B in order to accomodate a big bat at 1B/DH Olerud363.354 1

I believe they had him play 3rd 100 innings in 2024 and were open to signing Alonso. Seems like with his arm he won't be any worse at third then at first. What I mean is some guys would be worse, if they couldn't make plays because of arm strength. Not the case with Vlad. Also interesting that Miquel Cabrera moved back to third at age 29. Defense scored good enough and won 2 MVPs. They probably are thinking this. I heard a quote that there could even be a way to fit Schwarber in. My guess is they have a plan for how to accomadate every major free agent. Probably have a value for a Clemente/Giminez/Bo/Vlad infield, and a Vlad/Giminez/Clement/Naylor infield and so on. Also heard they are not married to Giminez at short. Would even consider Bo as a shortstop or others. They like him there but are open to lots of plans.

People dont realize the difference between SS/2B in terms of difficulty. Anecdotal evidence, but my 15 year old son plays SS. Due to some Daddy Ball issues, he got reps at 2nd base for the first time in years this past season. I asked him if he liked it and he said he loved playing 2nd because it was SOOO much easier than playing SS. Jays24 1

It's not just that you can get Cease for money, the money he's likely to command in FA would potentially prevent the team from making further additions. Alcantara would still give us payroll flexibility. Not that I'm anti signing Cease or anything, but you gotta consider the pros and cons to both guys. Spanky__99 1

And he's maintained a better fitness level. So yes you could CONSIDER playing him at 3B again but I'd only do that if Bo leaves and you want to add offense via a 1B only player as you say. All things considered probably won't happen.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 I don't see any reason to take Vladdy off of First Base now. Bring back Bo and let them play 1B and 2B for the next decade.
