Blue Jays-Dodgers World Series Game 3 Thread: Max Scherzer vs. Tyler Glasnow

I had faith in Max turning back the clock against the Mariners but I don’t have that same optimism against the Dodgers. Hope Mad Max still has 1-2 more throwback games in him. 

My guess is the Jays don’t want Bieber to start unless it’s with extra rest (due to coming back from TJS) and that’s impossible in a 7 game series where he starts Game 3. So maybe the logic is just let him go all out in Game 4, and figure out Game 7 if it happens.

They can get to Glasnow I feel fine with that match up. How they get the outs is the big question. Max is a fly ball guy and believe it or not Dodger Stadium has the highest HR Factor in the league. Maybe being later in the year helps mitigate that a little, only a high of 24 today. All factors 
 

No walks and no home runs. Easier said than done 

Would be nice to see Louie Varland turn in a clean inning tonight, you know he’s throwing

I don't understand how people still think that it's up to Bo to decide whether he starts the games or not, or how many innings he plays. If Bo blows out his knee he's out for the rest of the post season. It's easy to see he's nowhere close to 100% right now. I have zero issues with Bo only playing part of the game given the likely state of his knee, but I would prefer that he starts the game against the Dodger rotation to give the team a better chance to score early vs being saved for later in the game.

Game 3 is the most important non-elimination game in a 7 game series.

If they win game 3, good chance they can win the series. If they lose, they are done.

Might end up winning game 5 or something, but will still lose 4-2.

Must win tonight and guarantees back in TO!

That's a crazy factoid, wonder if there's a big difference between daytime Dodger Stadium vs nighttime. All 3 games will be starting at 5 pm PST, so the weather effects will be somewhere in between for the early portion of the games and then regular nighttime effect (if any) for the later innings.

Mad Max versus the Dodgers is definitely intimidating, but there is some reason for optimism tonight.

I will get tarred and feathered for saying this, but you could argue the Dodgers offense is actually the weakest of the three teams we have faced:

• Yankees: Best offense during regular season. The gap between Judge and Ohtani is greater than you think and the Yankee lineup is deeper.
• Mariners: Tied with LAD for second in wRC+ (113) but they made massive lineup additions at the deadline and the Dodgers didn't.
• Dodgers: Still dangerous, but Betts has regressed, the bottom third of the order sucks, and they don't have good pinch hitters.

The idea that they were bored in the regular season and have now flipped a switch doesn't really hold up either. They lit up the Reds (the worst team to ever make the postseason) but since then they have struggled to the tune of an 86 wRC+.

They are still elite on paper and Mad Max hasn't been sharp this season, so a big game is possible. But I think the Jays can come up with a good plan to keep the Dodgers offense in check tonight if they execute.

2 runs is my limit for what Max can give up early in the game. If he gives up more than two my expectation is that Schneids will be quick with the hook.

Yea 2 runs is fair for max.  Plus varland can’t give up runs every outing, he is due for one of his clean 4 out appearances

It's Dodgers starting pitchers that is the problem.  Solve that, Jays will win the series.

Feels like the pitching plan is more straight forward against the Dodgers. Just a matter of execution which is easier said then done, BUT:

• The Yankees have a balanced lineup and alternate L-R throughout.
• The Mariners have those friggin' switch hitters which made it tough to get platoon advantages.

The Dodgers group Ohtani (he in particular takes a big hit against lefties) and Freeman closely together with only Betts splitting them who is pretty average these days.

So use a lefty against 1-2-3 and then pull them immediately for a righty who will have the platoon advantage against everyone else but Muncy. Edman is a switch hitter that can't hit RHP and they don't have any pinch hitters either.

So the plan is there, we just need to execute.

Yeah we kind of have mid pitching so it's no guarantee we silence their bats but the opportunity is there.

Their rotation is definitely their strength, but our deep lineup is ours, so hopefully Game 2 was just a blip. Their bullpen isn’t very good either, which takes some of the edge off their elite starting pitching.

Yamamoto’s in a groove, but even so, our xBA against him was .255 while we only hit .133. Based on that, we could’ve expected 7 or 8 hits instead of just 4.

Not only would those extra hits have helped on their own, but they likely would’ve ended Yamamoto’s night earlier and given us more chances depending on how we capitalized on the extra at-bats. It could have been a completely different game.

When I went to the game back in August, took me and my friend 2+ hours from the airport hotel to Dodgers Stadium. I was worried about missing out on the Kobe Bryant bobblehead haha.

LA needs their starters to pitch at least 7 + innings in order to turn things over to Sasaki for the final 6 or so outs. 

Get to their starters early like how the Jays got to Snell in Game 1, there will be an opportunity to have a big inning as we saw against their pen. Their

he's new to the roll, some games he was untouchable other times he gave up hits and wasn't as dominant.  Losing Vesia really hurts because they have no reliable bridge to Sasaki - unless Trenien can turn back the clock and pitch like his old self

Oh yeah that fanbase is totally cooked for these games.

Rush hour is from 3 to 7 there. The majority of the city would need to leave now in order to make it on time.

By the time some of these fans get there it will be the 7th inning and that's also the time most of them leave. Good luck Dodger fans.

Sasaki is not a typical Japanese.  If he was asked to go on a kamikaze mission he’s the type of guy to say no.

I am from the LA area and for a regular season game you are correct about fan attendance.  This is a front running city and they will be there in force,  Its a show/event.  Half of them will be streaming to their ticTok's , etc and glammed up and taking pictures of their food.  The other half are solid Mexican based fans that know the game and support the team.  Def a few rough types in that group, but in general they are there to support team and not act like A Holes, unless your a Giants fan.
