General Blue Jays Discussion Thread (2025)

I think most people, me included, were thrilled to get the Twins as an opponent in 2023 given the alternative (the Rays), and that still led to an embarrassing two game sweep. My mindset now is get the bye, clinch the best record in the AL so that home field is guaranteed throughout the AL side of the playoffs, and whatever that leads to in terms of opponents is what it is. Luckily if the Jays continue to have a good week then they should be able to get the best record and avoid a 2015 situation where the Royals ended up overtaking them in the final 4 games of the season (home field against the Royals in the ALCS that year could have changed that series completely).

Especially if after Gausman and Bieber we have Scherzer Bassitt and Yesavage; all of whom could either start a game OR pitch 2-4 innings at any time out of the pen. 

I'd rather use one or two of the latter out of the pen for multiple innings than carry a borderline RP that we're scared to use anyway.

Time to get the monkey off our back and win a playoff series.

Andres Gimenez already has 3 OAA at SS lol. The bat has been disappointing, and in his defense he's been underperforming his xwOBA as much as anyone, but by god if he isn't an absolutely special infield defender.

The projections still think he's closer to league average than to the bat he's been the last couple of seasons, and honestly he might be a 4.5-5 WAR player if he's just a 95-100 wRC+ bat. There's more value to be added with his legs in a fully healthy year, and he's very much still in his prime years so the bat shouldn't be a complete lost cause.

I went to the first 2 games of the 2015 ALDS and it sure didn't feel like it

Same man, same. Sold my tix to game 5 after i went to those first 2 games. Couldn’t handle anymore after that gut wrenching 14 inning loss in game 2. At least i made like $500 haha.

I went to both WC games in 2022. 

I just can’t do it again this year. I’ll either buy last-minute playoff tix for cheap if they’re looking good, or wait til the ALCS/WS.

I've also been to several playoff games since 2015.  I think I went to 2 games in 2015, 2 games in 2016 (including the EE walkoff v. Baltimore) and I went to 1 game in 2022 and 2023, including the collapse v. Seattle.

Personally - I feel that if you can, you need to make the effort to go watch Blue Jay playoffs games as much as you can.  I think that especially goes for anyone who spends any amount of time on this forum.  As diehards, you need to go experience it.  Although you may be left with heartbreak (Seattle), you may also witness something absolutely incredible that may stick with you for the rest of your life (Joey Bats or EE walkoffs).

I'm preparing to grab tickets to a couple of games.  Probably 1 game with my whole family and another with just my boys.  It's going to cost me a fortune, but I have to do it.  As a Jays fan, I went 22 years between playoff appearances. You just never know when you'll get that opportunity again in life. You should go man.

Yeah thats how I felt in 2022, im kinda over it now though… I just hate that feeling of being down 3-0 or something early, and just thinking damn i should’ve stayed home.

2016 was a great year after my bad luck in 2015. Got to see the Edwin walkoff, the Donaldson slide walkoff, and the 1 game they won against the Indians in the ALCS.

I will of course watch the games from home no matter what. And tbh I will probably end up going to one of these early playoff games anyways because im a loser fan that can’t stay away.

I learned in 2022 that you can probably get tix for face value on gameday, because people seem to forget the game times are all s*** for the first couple rounds and games fall on work days midday.

I've always been able to grab tickets from Ticketmaster myself, so I don't think I've ever had to pay more than face value (not that face value is overly affordable).

I do always wonder what I would do if the Jays made the World Series.  Would I be willing to pay crazy scalper prices - say $2K a ticket to watch them in the world series.  I think the answer is I would.  I had a cancer scare back in 2019 (I'm perfectly fine now), but since then, I do generally live by the YOLO mentality.

If there's a Game 7 at the dome this year - I think almost everyone "regular" on this board should be in the building (if feasible).  Very few love the Jays as much as we do.

Yeah unfortunately the reality is that in a hypothetical game 7 it would be mostly rich *******s that have been to 1 other jays game in their lives. FOMO and all that.

Would be awesome to plan some kinda get together with everyone here before a game near the dome if the Jays made it to the WS. Meet up with the gate14 guys lol

So now thanks to Rogers I can't watch next Friday's game on my phone via MLBTV because they made this stupid deal thinking that tonight's game would be the playoff clincher. Next Friday's game might actually be more important.

I don’t live in Canada so I don’t really care what Rogers does but putting an additional game on Apple just because they don’t know how magic numbers work (or don’t have the patience to wait to see if the game would have mattered) is not very bright.

Ever consider it might not be that easy and that the people running Rogers aren't f*cking morons?   

There is no way you should be firm at all that this was just a massive screw up by the Jays.

We will agree to disagree. I don't think Apple would have put a timeframe on when Rogers could ask for a simulcast, so if Rogers waited like 2 hours, they would have known that tonight's game wouldn't be the clincher. Even if they did, it still did not end up with the right outcome for Rogers. Whatever. I just found out that T-Mobile customers get Apple TV free, so I'll be able to watch both games for free now. Rogers can't hurt me.

Ok fine, so they planned it well ahead of time, days or weeks in advance, with no wiggle room to maneuver after the fact, and still got it wrong. Well intentioned mistakes are still mistakes. 

Whatever, maybe I’m being too hard on Rogers, and hopefully none of this matters as the Jays will clinch before next Friday and hopefully clinch the East before then as well, but more Apple TV games than necessary is not fun.

You can bet the price would go up for an agreement that was contingent on the standings the day of.
