Tampa Bay has juggled their rotation a little bit, inserting Ryan Pepiot in to start game 2.

That means that somehow we don't face Drew Rasmussen or Adrian Houser (their 2 best starters) in a 4 game series. Matchups are as follows:

G1: Yesavage vs Bullpen Day

G2: Berrios vs Pepiot

G3: Gausman vs Seymour

G4: Bassitt vs Baz

They are also limiting Pepiot's innings, so unless he's ridiculously efficient he probably doesn't go more than five.

Gimenez playing SS did seem a bit strange this late in the season if Bo was going to come back soon. If he's out for a while and it bleeds into the post season, then that's not good. Tony Taters coming back and being effective is even more important now if that's the case.

A good lesson on why you should slide Spikes first. The home plate collision/blocking rule was literally invented to prevent injuries like this.

Yeah this isn't sounding good.

  • Schneider not putting a timetable on when Bo might resume baseball activities
  • Gimenez moving over to SS
  • IKF quote:
    • “We’re going to try and get the job done for him, give him a chance to get healthy and hopefully we’re playing long enough where he can try and make a comeback late in the postseason. But at the same time, you know, next man up.”

Is Bo cooked?

Team defense is definitely going to improve with Gimenez at SS and Clement at 2B. Barger and Lukes rate better this season at 3B and RF respectively than they do in RF and LF, so defensively it's probably a significant improvement. The bat is going to be sorely missed though. Santander coming back and being a threat will compensate for that somewhat, but Bichette had a 133 wRC+ before he got hurt. Tied for 17th in MLB with Bryce Harper. You're not replacing that. Have to hope one or both of Gimenez/Clement get some BABIP luck now and into October.

IKF shouldn't be commenting on:

1 - the post-season when they haven't clinched anything yet.

2 - anything to do with Bo's availability when the team hasn't said much officially yet.

He should have kept his mouth shut!

Now it also makes sense why the team hasn't been pinch hitting for Gimenez lately.  Theyre going to have to rely on him in the playoffs regardless so he's getting reps against lefties.

The decision to let Bo play after the injury will get railed on if he misses any playoff games.

Getting ready to see the following lineup potentially.  Team upgrades their SS defense while downgrading their corner OF defense.

LF Springer

DH Bo

1B Vladdy

3B Barger

C Kirk

CF Varsho

RF Santandar

2B Clement

SS Gimenez

It would be pretty jarring to go from a defensive OF that has been good/elite on the season to one with George and Tony on the corners, lol.

I guess the downgrade is completely offset by the massive SS upgrade though. And Straw can come in to help hold leads down.

The press needs to ask why they didn't pull Bichette after his injury and a 2 hour rain delay. The next day they incorrectly said it was a bruised shin and not his knee. Not a good look at all for the staff.

World Series game 1 lineup. Although my crystal ball has Barger and Bo flipped.

Ya the Jays have tried really hard to fit a lefty into the 2nd spot but aside from Lukes, no one's done well there.  Barger has looked better in the 4/5 spot while Varsho has looked better in the 5/6 spot.

I think they'll just go with their best hitters at the very top if no one runs away until the end of the year.

If Santander can manage to get his left and right handed swings up to par before the end of the season he could be a candidate to hit 2nd.
