i'd be shocked if dane myers or harrison bader WASNT on the team after the deadline considering what this team values & how those guys do vs lefties.

not to mention the thought of closing out a game with a bader/myers + varsho + straw defensive outfield would probably excite ross in a way that makes mrs. atkins very jealous

I feel like the need for a right handed bench bat has been satisfied internally by Davis Schneider. He saw those comments and decided to be good again.

Schneider has benefited from good luck and goes on incredibly cold streaks

A whole lot of spiking the football over here because of 3 bad weeks in April!

These are the same people who thought the Orioles were the 1927 Yankees for the foreseeable future!

Just saying!

Hahahaha... funny reading the panic in here.

How many organizations are in a more bleak situation than us?

Not only with the payroll and lack of real prospects, but we don't have a ton of assets on the Major League roster with a lot of value especially considering the contracts they have.

We have a couple of relievers with value, if Bo hits reasonably well in the next few months he might have value, Gausman and maybe Bassitt. If Max can show us anything in the next couple of months, that could get us a piece. Varsho perhaps. That ain't much value to work with.

Crazy that this post was just 2.5 months ago

To be fair we are currently in this great position due to luck, not due to the genius of the front office. That doesn't mean we don't take advantage of the opportunity though. Banked wins are an asset like anything else.

what part of it is luck?

lol

the entire farm system breaks out and Ross Atkins hits home runs on like 12 minor trades and acquisitions in a row. that's not luck.

I'm happier about this run than anybody but cmon now. We have been very lucky to have the record we have.

I'm pretty sure the team was overdue for some good luck.  Development isn't linear.  Maybe we finally have the right supporting coaches. Maybe the Dunedin facilities are starting to pay off.

It certainly can't be:

Success = Atkins lucky

Failure = Atkins sucks

We need a WAR for front office development

WAR for home grown talent, you just need to do the work to put that together or mine the data.  LA was on top last I checked; the list that I saw was for playoff teams, LA was on top

I have that chart somewhere I have to search for it

Unless Atkins is directing batted ball luck, yes Atkins = lucky.

Atkins off season transactions had little or no effect on Jays record this year. He looks like a genius because the emergence of Barger, Clement and Springer and Kirk.

If bad luck exists in your world, some good luck must exist as well.

Yeah its a mix of both. Can definitely attribute some bad luck to when they were struggling and some good luck (which every winning team needs) when they're winning. It all evens out.

I agree with your point on having the right supporting coaches. Think that has made a difference.

Trading for David Bednar just makes too much sense for the Jays.

Yea I'd rather see Jays target pitching over position players. Their lineup is 5th in team WAR due to elite defense.

Whereas the pitching is 20th in team WAR :/. Francis/Green (-0.9, -0.6 WAR) have hurt them but it's not just that, it's that they don't really have the elite top end talent. A lot of average-ish pitchers which has kept them in games but I worry it won't be enough come playoffs

Of course it exists

But keggy said they are here due to luck and not the front office. That's just not true. Even if you take away a few wins due to luck, they are still competing for the division right now.

Ross Atkins is a genius

The Jays have a bad season = Ross Atkins sucks

The Jays have a good season = Ross Atkins still sucks he's just lucky

Am I doing this right?

It's hilarious.

The core he put together underperforms and it's Atkins fault.

They start to perform to expectations again and he's just one big ole lucky SOB.
