Laika Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2025 Posted July 11, 2025 I feel like the need for a right handed bench bat has been satisfied internally by Davis Schneider. He saw those comments and decided to be good again. Spanky__99 and Terminator 2

sliderguy35 Verified Member Posted July 11, 2025 Posted July 11, 2025 i'd be shocked if dane myers or harrison bader WASNT on the team after the deadline considering what this team values & how those guys do vs lefties. not to mention the thought of closing out a game with a bader/myers + varsho + straw defensive outfield would probably excite ross in a way that makes mrs. atkins very jealous Terminator, max silver and Spanky__99 1 2

Not only with the payroll and lack of real prospects, but we don't have a ton of assets on the Major League roster with a lot of value especially considering the contracts they have. We have a couple of relievers with value, if Bo hits reasonably well in the next few months he might have value, Gausman and maybe Bassitt. If Max can show us anything in the next couple of months, that could get us a piece. Varsho perhaps. That ain't much value to work with. To be fair we are currently in this great position due to luck, not due to the genius of the front office. That doesn't mean we don't take advantage of the opportunity though. Banked wins are an asset like anything else.

Doubleplay21 Verified Member Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 Atkins off season transactions had little or no effect on Jays record this year. He looks like a genius because the emergence of Barger, Clement and Springer and Kirk.

Can definitely attribute some bad luck to when they were struggling and some good luck (which every winning team needs) when they're winning. It all evens out. I agree with your point on having the right supporting coaches. Think that has made a difference.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 Jays are 4th in the AL East with a +21 run differential. Yankees: +117 Red Sox: +57 Rays: +65
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 Trading for David Bednar just makes too much sense for the Jays.

Yea I'd rather see Jays target pitching over position players. Their lineup is 5th in team WAR due to elite defense. Whereas the pitching is 20th in team WAR :/. Francis/Green (-0.9, -0.6 WAR) have hurt them but it's not just that, it's that they don't really have the elite top end talent. A lot of average-ish pitchers which has kept them in games but I worry it won't be enough come playoffs

It's hilarious. The core he put together underperforms and it's Atkins fault. They start to perform to expectations again and he's just one big ole lucky SOB.
