I wonder if the Scherzer and other players' deferrals are baked into it. Either way, Strasburg and Patrick Corbin have been some tough pills to swallow for Washington. At least they've properly built a solid farm system and have a nice young core, I'm sure they'll spend again when another contention window opens up. The Rockies though? Big yikes

Random note :

Felt sick last night, went to bed early and made a whole lot of weird dreams. One of them being the Jays had signed Max Scherzer.

Woke up and found it weird as I don't consider him at all as a player the Jays would sign and I highly doubt he would consider the Jays at this stage of his career and their current state.

Not surprised about the numbers. 100 000 000$ apart in negociations.

What type of professional athlete goes and likes a fan post of himself in another teams uniform while he plays for another team?

This just another example of Vladdy only giving a *** about Vladdy.

I really hope the Jays don't make the mistake of resigning him.

Just trade him already

He's not very bright.

MLB's offseason is so long, I have talked myself in and out on all the remaining FAs about 10x over.

Currently I am OUT on Santander but I am IN on Bregman. This is subject to change.

You don't want to hear Buck butcher Santander's name for 4/5 years?

Wow. You go away for a couple weeks and boom. The world changes. I’m actually still on my most current 2mo stint in the hole, but has my name been discussed. I wouldn’t make for a very good narcissist if I wasn’t curious. Brock, think of me like Hulk Hogan in Rocky III, I’m fond of all these guys and sometimes I just get some kicks in. I’m heavily oppressed though. My latest 2m in the hole was for referring it Jimcanuck as Jcuck. But you know. He’s asking for it a little with that name. That may seem a like victim blaming but it rolls of the tongue and no harm was meant:(

I meant back of the house Executive Committee. Going to be a tough going year, need all hands on deck. Clement headlining is pretty depressing. It may be good for the board if he creates division and debate for 6 years, like Biggio did. And Santander “may have interest”. Woof. I can’t recall going into the season anytime recently, less into it.  Didn’t even renew my fantasy league yet. Jays will be hard to watch week 1

I quickly added up the wins and it amounted to nearly 37 total wins above replacement. That seems like a team that can compete for a wildcard spot, but then the Blue Jays have largely seemed to underperform compared to the projections in recent seasons.

It would be a massive boost from the pitching staff, especially the pen.

FanGraphs Depth Charts projects them for 39.3 WAR, so it seems ZiPS is lower on the Blue Jays than Depth Charts (which IIRC use Steamer projections).

Depth Charts also projects the Blue Jays to be the 5th worst team in the American League, so unless ZiPS is also much lower on numerous other teams, ZiPS likely also projects the Blue Jays to finish around 5th worst in the American League.

Nah that's probably not good enough. 82-84 wins?
It's a team that COULD make the playoffs but much more likely they end up selling and project poorly post trade deadline and end up in the 70s again.

I guess this largely depends on how many wins a fully replacement level team is expected to generate. I've seen anywhere from 40 wins on the low end up to 50 wins on the high end so the readily available information is highly variable.

In two of the last 3 seasons 86 wins were sufficient to earn a wild card spot in the AL so 82-84 wins wouldn't be that far out if the overall league is on the weaker side again.

Zips teased his Jays Depth Chart today with a tweet.

Someone compared it to the other AL East teams (can't find the tweet anymore) and it was about 6 wins behind the Yankees, 4 wins behind the O's and the same as the Red Sox. The Rays don't have theirs out yet.

Wild that Gimenez would be leading our team in WAR.  Either WAR is flawed or the player salaries don't make sense.  Vlad wants 450M while people are pitching about Gimenez earning 105M lol.  My 2 cents, defensive WAR needs to be weighed differently than offensive WAR.

Yeah you aren't wrong. Offense definitely gets paid more.

That said, Gimenez isn't just good at defense, he's godly. Perhaps the Daulton Varsho of the infield and that's really valuable. Especially when he's projected to be a decent hitter and baserunner too.

Offense gets paid more because it is a valued more, which is why I prefer WAR to weigh defensive/offensive contributions differently.  If they were the same then a guy like Ryan Goins would have lasted a lot longer.  Maybe if MLB had a "designated fielder" option like the "designated hitter" then they'd be a lot more comparable.

In regards to Gimenez, If he's the "Varsho of the infield" then he needs to play the hardest spot in the infield at SS to truly maximize team results.  I won't pretend to have seen him enough to make that determination but he's locked in for like 5/6 years so it should be a no-brainer.

Most of this doesn't make any sense to me. It's a bunch of non-sequiturs strung together, some of which aren't even factual.

Yeah I get the criticism here but I don't think it will kill the team to have him play 2B for a year. Making the switch in Bo's walk year might do more harm than good. Just don't make the mistake of keeping Gimenez at 2B in year two like they did with Varsho.

Arb deadline come and gone? We are going to Arb with Vladdy again?

And Kirk too, unless I missed his settlement number getting reported.
