Some context would help.

Well of course the guys with big contracts are going to be pissed off.

When NHL introduced a cap, it sounds like teams were allowed to buy out a percentage of some contracts and then some of those big contracts will have to be traded

A salary floor is a far more important thing to introduce than a cap, along with stricter limitations on deferred salaries.

65 years seems kinda high

Whoever even put single pitch betting options on a gambling site should be given 65 years

As long as there are betting outcomes like this it’s going to happen again, they will just make sure to be careful next time.

Its almost like entrapment

Id be willing to bet they don’t do any prison time, bad enough the careers are ruined.

I think it's crazy that we send people to prison for this.  It's just sports. You should be able to do and say what you want.  If that depletes trust in the sports betting world, then I'm all for it.

Why should the govt be in the business of enforcing betting odds?

There is a lot of money in political donations and lobbying etc with the gambling industry.

They are going to want to make an example of these guys.

I don’t care though.  These casinos and apps ruin so many lives, including myself with some 6 figures in losses in my 20s and early 30s.

I don’t want to see a couple players go to prison over this.

I think it should have been like a 1-2 year suspension.  If they can forgive PED’s, the Astro and Redsox sign stealing, brawls and physical assaults like Odor and Jose Ramirez, Aroldis Chapman etc

Thats my opinion because of how they brought sports betting into the main sponsorships for baseball.  I can see the lifetime ban if that wasn’t the case.  Treat it like addiction.

It seems you can commit just about any crime and somehow earn some sort of redemption or forgiveness. Financial crimes however are taken more seriously in the US than any other type of crime. Money is the last sacred thing left. You can't f*** with it.

I donno Omar, a lot of pretty bad financial crimes in the states lately and some of them getting pardons.  Like Trevor Milton, billions in investor fraud with his electric car company.  You can steal millions with fraud and if you don’t have a criminal record, you will get like 2-5 years for a couple million.

Anyway, I say before Clase winds up in custody, get him a wig and some plastic surgery.  Bring him to Canada.

Now he is Rodrigo, his papers were lost in a war torn country but he is 18 and although he looks old for his age from all the civil unrest and the stress it caused him.  He does has a great arm.

As of today (Nov 10 in Japan) this Japanese Fabio looking pitchers team, the Seibu Lions, said they are posting him.

Not sure if that starts the 45 day process today, but at least we should see where he ends up before new years.

🤡's... looks good on them. Both of them wanted to play in the winter league and the Guardians kiboshed it, rightfully so, they'll never play baseball again because mere stupidity. I dropped Luis Ortiz in 2 of my 20 team dynasty leagues.

Have to think those guys were getting extorted by the Mafia and they feared for their own or a family members life. They wouldn’t be throwing away millions to make a few extra thousand dollars makes no sense. I think that’s what happened with the Raptors player Porter he had a bunch of gambling bets he couldn’t pay and the mafia told him well you’re gonna throw some points to “even it up”

As we figured, skubal only getting traded if the tigers receive an “overwhelming offer”.

Someone will get him at the deadline it sounds like.

I guess the tigers can still easily win that division so it makes sense to go for a 1st wildcard spot.

I am still waiting for the first time I hear a team come out and say “we are trading our star player for the first decent offer we get”. Rather than the overwhelming offer stance.  Seriously, who wants to just be whelmed?

For... crime?

Yes crime.  Serious crime.

2022 he had a 0.00 ERA in the playoffs.  2024 he had a 0.65 ERA I think in regular season.

2024 he had like a 10.00 ERA in the playoffs.

Minor crime - I will throw a low pitch so my friend can make 1000 on his Parlay then I will strike out the side.

Major crime - I will blow the ALCS so the mafia can make 9.8 million.

Casual Fan like Olerud363.354 - I look at the baseball reference (bad site compared to fangraphs) and see big ERA by Clase in 2024 playoffs but not 2022.  I wonder if major crime occurred?  Will ask the expert posters on Blue Jays Centre (formerly Blue Jays message board) what they think.

Probably gambling debts in Clase's case too. His whole scheme about selling his future earnings was sus
