I agree, there are too many sub-forums right now. Around baseball has always been an extremely active thread and it shouldn’t be hidden all the way over here

It's one of my favourite threads to catch up on league news. The thread will just die in this forum and stunt discussion.

The same thing happened to the MILB thread in the old forum. Nobody used it.

Agreed 10x over

I don't mind having Around Baseball in its own separate forum. I kind of like it because you don't have to follow along with a megathread, each piece of news can be posted and commented on individually.

I would definitely combine the Minor League thread with the MLB Draft forum though. Not enough distinction between the two.

I think this could work out fine:

Signings and trades get their own threads.

We keep Around Baseball threads for small stuff like chatting about specific games, player seasons generally etc..

Some news to share:

  • Michael Lorenzen signs with the Royals - 1 year $7M.  No commentary if they're going to let him try to be a 2-way player (which I think was rumored and discussed earlier).
  • Braxton Garrett will miss all of 2025 with after undergoing UCL revision surgery with an internal brace in December.  Dude just can't stay healthy.
  • Travis Swaggerty was signed to a minor league contract with the Mets.  I remember lots of discussions about him in the 2018 draft (10th overall pick).  He never amounted to much of anything unfortunately.
  • Amed Roserio signs with the Nats - 1 year $2M.
  • Josh Rojas signs with the White Sox - 1 year $3.5M (also impressed with their farm system).
  • Twins confirm Griffin Jax won't be returning to the rotation this coming seasons.

Lorenzen would have been a nice add as an arm who could either start or pitch multiple innings out of the pen.

Rosario at $2M is a bargain. Had a 2.8 and 3 WAR in 2021 and 2022. Either way, he still can be a valuable utility guy if you're okay with the subpar glove.

Man Puig just fell off the face of the earth here. Had so much promise.

Shocked no MLB team signed him after 2019. Probably still could have been a 2-3 WAR outfielder here.

I'd guess teams just didn't think the potential reward would be worth the multitude of headaches they would have to deal with.

Yeah, I can't picture Shapiro downplaying his proclivity for sexual assault. Let him rot.

don't think I have ever seen a ZiPS projection that bad for a team

every single spot on the team ranges from atrocious to below average, other than where Luis Robert stands

If Reinsdorf had any idea about was going on the entire front office would be fired. There's no reason to have a team that bad, even if you're at the absolute bottom of your competitive cycle. Their top-8 starters project for like 5.5 total.

They haven't made a good transaction in years. Every trade sucks. Every signing sucks.

To be fair, Luis Robert probably won’t be standing due to injuries
