Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 (edited) Oh yeah they were out in full force after he was demoted. They swore we would have swept the Yankees if he was still up lol... that was a shitshow. Edited April 22, 2024 by Spanky99

They swore we would have swept the Yankees if he was still up I've hardly been one of his apologists over the years but in fairness he might very well have done better than Swanson in that game. The fact remains however that he has never done anything of value at the major level over the course of a season. Little teases here and there, that's it.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 [raises hand] Yeah I wanted him to face the meat of the order including Judge that inning. He'd been so good and Swanson was so rusty. Looks like the inconsistency and wildness isn't close to gone though It's ok. At least you have the courage to admit it. The rest of the Pearson Fanboys have scurried back under the rock they came from.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Oh yeah they were out in full force after he was demoted. They swore we would have swept the Yankees if he was still up cannot give up on that arm, look how long Nick Burdi has remained relevant, Glasnow went through similar struggles while with the Pirates, until the trade to Tampa.

He may have, but there was obviously a decent probability he wouldn't have. People were acting like he was a lockdown RPer.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Didn’t play welll enough to win.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 That's the Nate Pearson we know

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Sucks to miss out on a sweep again, but that's four straight series wins Team Not Panicking looking strong Just need to call Orelvis up so he and Schneider can start socking homers together and we’ll be on our way
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Crazy how much better Tatis and Soto are than Vladdy. And Vladdy got all the hype. He’s not even in the same realm. Remember most rankings had Vladdy above both Tatis and Acuna lol
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Most people don't even realize how poor this Vlad outcome is It's like 5th percentile About as bad as he could ever have been with his tools. Only way to be worse would be major injuries. He was 80 hit 80 power... prospect grades...

Only way to be worse would be major injuries. He was 80 hit 80 power... prospect grades... It's unbelievable really. And yet somehow this team competes with massive underperformances from these key core players year after year. Atkins has really built up the depth of the roster for them to survive these disappointments like this.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 He may not end up a superstar but he’s got a 115 wRC+ right now and it should only go up from there Go up to 118 wRC+ like last year? I hate when people say this or stuff like it. Replacement level since 2023 began. It's a lost cause.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 normies are always saying things about Vlad like "well if a .780 OPS is your floor then you're a pretty special hitter" it's infuriating!
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Yeah, I lean towards optimism most of the time but Vlad just doesn't have the ability to make adjustments. Low IQ player. He took the league by storm. The league adjusted. He hasn't been able to re-adjust. And other than his bat he provides negative value, so being just above a league average bat makes him a very expensive replacement level 1B. I'd love to be wrong though. He's got tons of power though so he can win home run derby's when he has somebody tossing BP tomatoes for him to can. But when an MLB pitcher wants to shut him down in a game, he knows exactly how to do it.

Yeah the problem with Vlad's floor being a ~120 wRC+ bat is that's not a particularly high bar for a 1B who is inept at running the bases or playing good defense. Anywhere else but at first base/DH would that offensive floor at least contribute to being a slightly above average player.

It's a lost cause. Lol just like Varsho was considered a lost cause prior to last week? Not sure what's gotten into you lately. It's either a troll job or you switched accounts with the newly rational JaysBlue or something. The projections have Vlad hitting with a wRC+ of 130+ the rest of the year. Steamer has him hitting 139. Not a superstar but enough offensive juice to make him a 3+ WAR player. Here on Team Not Panicking we are officially holding on Vlad stocks right now and I suggest everyone do the same. One hot week and his numbers will look fine folks.

Do you even watch the games anymore or do you just get the scores fed to your pocket calculator?
bluejaysinternNo5 Verified Member Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Have you watched him play? Yeah Vlad has underperformed his projections 4/5 years, probably due to a hole in the xwOBA formula that over values his scorched ground balls or whatever.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 The best someone can reasonably hope for is an .800 OPS sad
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Have you watched him play? Do you even watch the games anymore or do you just get the scores fed to your pocket calculator? Back in the good 'ole days we used to tell the StottleMyersBloodyBallSacks of the board "you aren't smarter than Steamer." Now your posts are barely indistinguishable from the haters and losers after a mediocre road trip to start the season. Not sure what happened here. But the logic still applies my friend, so forgive me for not trusting your amateur scouting skills over Steamer.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 The best someone can reasonably hope for is an .800 OPS sad For a poor defensive 1B that gets picked off 2nd base (when he's not even the lead runner lmao) to end your season? Yep, super sad.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Dude was supposed to Miggy/Pujols And here we are hoping he can just be a poor man's Yandy Diaz. Just for a few months. Please Vladdy baby.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Pearson being better than Genesis Cabrera was the complaint, not that Pearson was a lockdown reliever. This is not true at all. Cabrera gave us 2 gutsy innings v. the Yankees. It was 100% that we had to use Swanson to close the game and didn't have the elite fireman, Nate Pearson on the team to close when we knew Romano couldn't go B2B and Swanson 'obviously' wasn't ready for high leverage - because his AAA numbers sucked. Please try to keep up.

Please try to keep up. Try to keep up with what? Genesis Cabrera stinks. He had one good season surrounded by basically sub replacement level performance. Both he and Pearson had options. One was performing poorly (in line with like 90% of his career so far) and the other was a former top prospect who was performing well. I'm not sure what you can't seem to understand. I'm not even talking about the Yankees game, and never even brought it up (now or at the time). I'm talking about the reaction at the time. Posters were questioning demoting Pearson when Genesis also had options. That was the criticism that I was referring to. If people were also complaining about the Yankees game, then wonderful.

Oh FFS. After the Pearson meltdown, I started the discussion by taking a shot at those who were furious that Swanson was recalled and then allowed to try and close the game v. the Yankees instead of Pearson. There were several people suggesting that was a major FO blunder, who were acting like Pearson was some lockdown fireman. There are multiple add on comments about that topic and then you say "Pearson being better than Genesis Cabrera was the complaint, not that Pearson was a lockdown reliever." You may have complained that Cabrera was kept over Pearson, but that was 100% not the dominant narrative during/after that Yankees game, nor is it what anyone else was talking about. Keeping Pearson up and sending down Cabrera wouldn't have helped at all in that Yankees game. For what it's worth, I don't really disagree. I think Genesis sucks balls; however, I suspect Pearson also sucks balls. But that isn't what we were all talking about. Edited April 22, 2024 by Brownie19

My post was in reference to "Pearson fanboys", which might have been a Term troll job, but still, I don't think there is a single Pearson fanboy on earth. Dude looks like a major bust. I don't think anyone was thinking he's a great reliever, just that he's better (or at least a more high upside guy to keep around) than Genesis is. The thing that hurt the Yankees game was Green being injured, not the Pearson demotion.

The thing that hurt the Yankees game was Green being injured, not the Pearson demotion. Not according to several on here. They didn't think Romano and Swanson should have been called up together, knowing they can't pitch B2B yet (even though Swanson never did pitch B2B). They wanted them worked in during low leverage situations (which is always ideal) and were pissed that they didn't have our lights out, 0.00 ERA Nate Pearson available to shut the door on the Yanks. To be fair, I do think people are still holding out some glimmer of hope that Pearson can become a lockdown RP (me included, as optimism is my thing). The SD game was a reminder that he simply isn't there yet, is inconsistent as f*** and still struggles in high leverage situations....and perhaps why having Swanson on the roster over Pearson was the FO's preference - even if he hadn't pitched in a regular season game yet and was rusty. It may also explain why they kept Cabrera over Pearson. They weren't fooled by Pearson's early success...
