Just looking for some consistency with repetitive positing. You made your point like two months ago. I’m even in total agreement with you on what you’re saying there. The horse is dead

Yeah the truth is that none of us disagree that much. We are just bored and vent on the losing in slightly different ways. I have definitely played my part in the repetitive arguments and will try to move on from that stuff.

It's a good time since the Buffalo Boys are all up and ready to rock. Hopefully they produce and give us something exciting to watch.

Ernie Clement

1. 93 mph -1 degrees fielder choice

2. 95 mph 11 degrees (pulled) double down left field line

3. 91 mph 40 degrees pop-fly short center (out)

4. 97 mph 32 degrees homerun left field (371 feet pulled into bullpen)

2/4 with a homer and a double.

Exit velo is overrated

Yeah, but while I agree you’re not going to blame grown man pro athlete problems on coaches, there’s still accountability. They should all be canned. Like with hitting, it literally can’t get worse. Even if there’s only a 10% chance it may make a positive difference, it’s time to take it. If the hitting coaches did have some quality tips, who the hell wants to listen to them at this point?? Better to work out with a private trainer

Do we count Bonds on steroids?

Bonds is his closest comparable, but Mays was an absolute freak of nature.

I just point out in the the few cases when you have to dig deeper on wRC+ but it’s a great stat… fits any year

But come on, how are you going to grade out defensive WAR for Willie Mays is 1952.

Big comeback by the Dodgers.

7 runs in the 9th to win it. Damn.

Shohei hit one 476 feet tonight. My God!

Borderline IMO, could’ve been called either way

I didn’t realize Norby was up. Don’t have him in my league obviously. He’s an interesting prospect.

I wonder if good prospects are at a disadvantage in their initial run, over say Spencer Hogwarts. Like nobody gives a s*** about this Hogwarts guy other than his name sounds like Harry Potter. Throw him some fastballs, move through the order.

Vs teams planning on the more elite Top 25-50 guys right away.

I doubt they are game planning more for Norby then Horwitz. They aren't making these decisions based on the baseball America top 100. Horwitz hit .330 .450 .500 in the International league for 8 months, and is hitting leadoff for the Jays and was up for a month last year. They know who he is just as much as they know Norby.

And even if they didn't care who Horwitz is they aren't just going to use the 'fastballs down the middle' pitching plan for anyone. They'd use some generic pitching plan that was still tough.

That being said I do think there is some merit in the idea that some guys get game planned more than others. I am sure that is part of the explanation for Vlad 2021 (because of Covid game planning and advanced scouting wasn't as thorough, they planned like hell for him in 2022 forward).

Yup. Plus.. if you give up 7 runs in the 9th, you deserve to lose.

Darvish is making a rehab start today. Padres definitely need him back to keep up in that 9 team race for two WC spots.

Was looking at Darvish's career numbers, and I wonder if you guys would consider his career disappointing relative to his expectations/talent?

He has 32 career WAR, which is a very good career, but I think I figured he'd had been elite for longer or more consistently than he wound up being.

Pretty cool small world stuff. I was always from Upstate NY. Not a big area around the capital. There were a couple guys like Kevin Smith and Ian Anderson that went to mlb a little before my son’s time. But he got to play with a couple dudes that may make the show. Danny Watson will probably make the NYY as RP soon. My son played with on a few teams even though Danny was as 3 years ahead. But a kid in his High School, a really good friend of his and frequent teammate. one year behind my son at his small private school, Eddie Yahmin, just got a full ride to LSU after tearing it up at Dayton, a lower D1 school.

Looks like he could be a 1st rounder soon. Really good respectful kid. Cool to know you may watch him one day even if it’s not your kid lol. Anyways, yeah I know nobody cares, Spanky

Yeah he has had an interesting career for sure.

His peak never really got that high but he's still going strong at age 37 so his longevity has been excellent.

The overall WAR total is light largely because he missed one whole season in addition to parts of several others. He will probably make a run at 40 WAR. Hall of very good.

Probably missed out on 2-3 great seasons on the front end of his career, and should still finish with about 40 fWAR. 100-150 wins, 2000 IP, maybe close to 2500 Ks. Easily the best Japanese pitcher of all-time. I don't think it's been a disappointing career. He'll be remembered.

Injuries took a lot of potential WAR from him

1680 career IP, 32.6 bWAR

Strasburg: 1470 career IP, 30.9 bWAR

Pretty similar

Yeah I think you're both right. Maybe I just recall the expectations being stratospheric when he came over and he was really electric his second season. On the whole it's not a career you can be disappointed in when you finish as a Cy Young runner up on more than one occasion.
