The positive way to think about Vlad is just that he happened to be overrated as a prospect because scouts are a bit dumb.

He smashes the ball but has never been a guy who lifts the ball. You can see that in his swing plane, and you probably could back in the minors if you are a great scout.

So the present outcome is very in line with his physical talents and that's fine! Just pretend that when he was a prospect he was a top 25 guy and not a #1 guy. Pretend that this was his scouting report:

You missed your calling

A way over paid Yandy Diaz.

Vlad has a chance to come close to earning his money this season if he keeps anything remotely close to his present numbers up. Projection systems have him ending up in the 3.5-4 win range which is a lot more palatable.

Agreed. The problem moving forward though will be consistency probably. Because of his 6 WAR season and pedigree he may command $25 million AAV on a long term deal, but you could get anything from 1 to 5 WAR from him season to season.

Apparently the Jays are interested in Ryan McMahon.

Atkins probably wants to triple down on building this team around defense only! What a dumbass.

McMahon may have taken a step forward with the bat. He needs to show he can keep it up but he's sitting at a 128 wRC+ presently. The .378 xwOBA is actually better than his actual of .370 so it's not like he's been lucky either. On top of that it's largely been built on games away from Coors Field as he's running a home away split of 95 wRC+ at home vs 158 wRC+ away.

McMahon is controllable for 3 more years, the Rockies believe every player they have is a super stud that can never be traded, McMahon is not that good, and Ross is probably desperate

I don't like this

It’s always a great idea to trade for guys coming off a career season

I'm in no way advocating trading for McMahon.

Trading for guys experiencing a breakout season certainly can work out just fine if the guys maintain that type of pace. There's always risk in trades, if you trade for a guy coming off of a bad season there's always the inherent risk the guy is actually bad as well so it goes both ways.

I was advocating for a McMahon trade a couple of years ago. The control and contract are nice. Having a solid season offensively as well.

Rockies players are weird. Their home stats are obviously juiced. But their road stats are depressed more than normal due to the "Rockie Road" effect.

I don't think it's totally understood but the pitches they see in Coors don't move as much so when they hit the road it looks like everyone's got better stuff than they actually do.

Vladdy is close to going on a homerun tear. He's close. Close. Just missed that one. Close. He's close.

I also find it funny that despite 'no power bro', and his defense and baserunning still being terrible Vladdy is on pace for 3 WAR.

A 1b men who could hit .290, walk, hit 10 homers, play defense, run the bases well, is probably 5 WAR in this offensive environment.

That player rarely exists anymore, but used to, Keith Hernandez, Grace, Olerud, Scott Hatteburg for 1 year.

Yea the position players are getting all the blame while it's actually the pitching that's holding the Jays down. Offense is way down across the league, an average hitter is only .700 OPS this year.

Jays lineup is 13th in WAR, not that much below where it was expected to be (~10th?)

Pitching is 26th in WAR, and should have been similar to last year (~5th). The excellent defense of the Jays masks just how bad the pitching has really been

They look a lot different in this video

I don't know that they look that much different, but it's still disappointing. Such a bad design.

They look much better in this video. The first leaked pic had some orange in it with no number on the front.

Not bad looking - I mean none of the city connect jersey are that good. The "Toronto" font is a little meh

Haven't been to Seattle since seeing the Jays play there in 2016.

Pike Place Market is a cool place. Some cool bars and restaurants around that area as well. A little further from the ballpark however.

That's the last time I was there as well. I was living in Vancouver at the time and we used to go every Jays series in Seattle with a group of about 10 of us. Amazing times - great venue, great vibe.

Couple quick tips - don't park too close to the stadium, if you're willing to walk a few blocks you'll get much cheaper parking a bit farther out. If you like pizza, MOTO pizza on the 300 level is *chef's kiss* and you have to get garlic fries.

Spent some time at Hatback Bar & Grille which had a good vibe, but can't remember all the other places we tried. You'll have a blast.

Oddly enough, on my ride into work this morning, I was wondering how the stadium is performing this year and BAM - The Score does an article on it. Seems odd the Jays and the architects/engineers who did the reno wouldn't have a very solid grasp on how the changes would impact the park factor and such. Unless this is what they wanted (barf). Seems like it's way off what they expected.

The whole pitchers park thing is nonsense. Our hitters suck and our starting pitchers + defense have been awesome so of course there will be less offense the past 1.5 seasons. Not rocket science.
