Extend Vlad, trade Bo, and keep the train moving would be an acceptable pivot/retool, IMO. At this rate they might get more value out of extending Vlad versus trading him for 20 cents on the dollar. At some point Mattingly will be gone and they might bring someone in who actually thinks pulling the ball in the air is better than hitting a single the other way, so Vlad might still be fixable. Bichette is far more likely to fall off a cliff given his offensive profile, so to me they should maximize his value as soon as they can (spoiler: they won't).

Yeah. That’s what I mean on Bo. Like he’ll probably find his way again soon, too young to be busting with his sustained success but it’s going to maybe come soon after his FA, and he’s not a great defender. If he gets down to the .750 OPS, that’s not a guy you want to even be paying $20m/yr to unless you have a $300m budget

Schneider on Blue Jays' bats: “This is not me pointing fingers at players. This is what they get paid to do. Our job is to get them ready. Their job is to go do it. The last couple days, we're just not getting the hits we need to."

someone getting fired, soon.

The manager is easier to fire and replace than the shortstop and right fielder

When Jano rested again yesterday it got me thinking maybe Jano should catch a bit less and DH more.

Jano is getting 2/3 of catcher starts right now, so 4 of every 6 days. If Jano and Kirk start alternating 50/50 and Jano is also DH twice every 6 days, it results in Jano starting 5 of every 6 days, but catching less so maybe the injury risk doesn't increase?

Today's lineup. Getting Biggio off the lineup card is akin to getting rid of dandelions off your lawn.

JS didn't bench 2 of the actual good hitters on the team for no reason today, so at least there's progress.

I would reduce Jano's workload behind the plate to once or twice a week if it meant that the Jays could get his bat in the lineup everyday, more as a DH. His bat needs to be in the lineup everyday given this teams offensive struggles.

I know that means Kirk would be starting behind the plate more, but defensively Kirk has been rock solid and has been valuable even with a noodle bat (0.7 fWAR in 29 games). Turner (-0.3 fWAR) and Vogelbach (-0.2fWAR) are hurting this lineup and team more when they're DHing.

Well someone has to play RF, no? I'd rather have Springer in there ftr.

Yeah Springer's bat needs to get going, so unfortunately you have to play him, but hopefully moving forward he's near the bottom of the order until he shows some life with the bat.

He has a 182 wRC+ Regression is coming. He isn't that good. Ride his heater while they can is the best option.

Yeah regression is coming for sure, but at least he'll provide power and is a huge upgrade over Turner/Vogelbach. Definitely ride his hot bat as much as they can. If he could put up Rhys Hoskins numbers up offensively over a full season, I'll take that in a heartbeat.

Kirk is a glove first catcher. Jansen is a bat first catcher. Our current DHs are Turner and Vogelbach. Even if Jansen cools off he's still better than what we're starting at DH while our offence scores 3 runs a game.

Is it really that hard to figure out how to get Jansen's bat into the lineup 6 days a week? Update the damn computers, I could get an intern to figure this out in 20 minutes.

Really. Vogelsbach at 5 isn’t like you get the dandelions out and crab grass pops up in its place

I'd say Vogelbach is more like a fat mushroom that pops up

Fire Shatkins and bring in competent management before making any roster changes. They will only make things worse

been saying that for years, but ownership wont have it, he's got them convinced he's related to the man from Galilee

Assuming that this season is a lost cause there's a real question of what to do with Vladdy. Do you try to get an extension done, do you deal him, you certainly shouldn't let him just get to free agency next year or delay on trading him like with Donaldson.

He's having a very solid hitting season at this point, albeit in a broadly inexplicable way, with zero power like he's Mark Grace. His xWOBA is undoubtedly elite, but he does not pull the ball enough on fly balls to capitalize on those numbers so his underperformance does make some sense.

He's only 25, so it is possible that an extension would encapsulate some years in which we can hope to be competitive again. I'm not even really certain what his return would be in a trade right now, and I'm definitely not certain what a reasonable extension looks like. If I'm being honest I cannot imagine he's worth more than like 6/120, but I also can't imagine he accepts that.

His season can kind of be seen as a success right now, but I feel like it raises more questions anyways cause of the lack of power.

Not interested in $25-30 mil AAV a year for Luis Arreaz lite who plays a s*** 1b seems to make a mental blunder once a week and has a body type that could have him out of baseball at 32. Edited by Carlos Danger

I'd sign Vladdy for 7 years at anything under 175/200M. It feels like he wants to stay.

Bo feels like he's going to walk / need to be traded but we don't know that for sure

That’s just too much IMO. I don’t trust any of these guys to lead us to the postseason and beyond. 5/100 would probably be my max for Vlad. If not, trade him and pivot to Naylor.

Your ok with $28.5 AAV for Vlad for 7 more years, if 7 even gets it done?

Yes actually

I think he still has some very good years ahead

I’d rather not bet on him providing surplus value on that kinda deal vs being a disaster

Whenever Vlad signs his big deal it will be interesting to see how he’s valued. He might get to FA and no team wants to give him more than like 4/80M. Or someone like Preller might give him an Eric Hosmer deal

I’d be fine with a Vlad extension but trying to find a number that makes sense for both sides is very difficult given his history.

Even though he's been incredibly frustrating to watch, he's likely to at least provide better value than Hosmer I think on that kind of deal. His career wRC+ is basically Hosmer's career high.

He's managed to get himself back to being an average sprinter (and the 6th fastest 1B!), so the concern that he's going to be so slow and fat he'll be completely done in a few years is less likely. The caveat there is that even though he's an average sprinter, he is the worst baserunner possible anyways.
