connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 The truth is…and it would’ve been considered either blasphemy or trolling not long ago… Preller > Atkins. I’ll take Preller all day. Not saying he’s good, or even Top half. I’m not saying I don’t remember the Eric Hosmer stuff. But all things considered, I’ll take Preller.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Preller basically shits good prospects so that's a valid opinion even if he's a dumbass in trades
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Small walleye is where its at, yum
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Who we selling at the deadline boys?
Masterbather Verified Member Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Who we selling at the deadline boys? With the way our assets are devaluing themselves, nobody's going to want them.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 With the way our assets are devaluing themselves, nobody's going to want them. The way Kikuchi is pitching right now, if he keeps it up he could bring in quite an impressive haul for a rental.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 They're basically rewarding mediocrity by keeping him around. His impact may be minimal, but his job is to help them player maximize his ability with the bat. Whether he's to blame for this shitshow or not, you can't turn over the entire roster in a day. Need to send a message to the players that their incompetence got a man fired. Agreed, like yesterday, man.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Yup for the Atkins cult it's never too early when Varsho is raking over the first two weeks. But it's too early when players or the team as a whole are struggling over an entire month+. lol...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Varsho is still 7th in the entire league for fWAR among outfielders but yeah, I mean hey.... the guy has had a rough week at the plate so let's get out the pitchforks again why don't we..... Some of you need a new hobby/interest if this one makes you so angry that you have to attack even the good parts of it It's like some of you absolutely cannot wait for something bad to happen so you can rush to BJMB and start dunking on fans who choose to look for a positive angle and don't let this make them as miserable as you do. It's kind of sad really, but whatever turns your crank I guess. 2 thumbs up.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 It’s not about wishing the guy to fail, but we saw what he probably was last year. Not a guy you want as a Corner OF if you have a weak lineup. Put him in CF, get a Corner OF that can hit better, and everyone will be happy. Nope. And KK being absolutely terrible hitting isn’t something you can say “no way you could see that coming”. Holy, correct on the latter, weird. You guys are birds on Varsho though, lol. We'll see.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 I'd be totally on board with the team making a bold move and sacking Mattingly and replacing him with Matt Hague. Hague seems to largely be behind the success of the AAA crew and with how poorly the offense has been performing there really isn't much to lose. It's the right move, it tells the team you got Don Mattingly fired. I nice slap in the face wake up call.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Who we selling at the deadline boys? Probably Turner, Garcia, and Richards for sure. I'm sure they would move KK if possible. Kikuchi and Jansen they may want to keep around, but we'll see. Guerrero Jr. and Green are under control next year, but would make some sense to move.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Not getting out pitchforks haha. I'm very impressed with Varsho still and even as his bat regresses, he's still a very valuable player who can put up a 3-4 WAR. No problem with that at all. My post was more of jab at you guys part of the Atkins cult. You get so excited about a players performance after two weeks in like IKF or Turner but when someone criticizes a player after a month + into the season, "it's too early." But yeah the "it's too early" doesn't apply to you when you rave about IKF or Turner after two weeks into the season lol. lmao Nah its more about some of the insufferable posters on here who are arrogant and attack you for any constructive criticism of Atkins and this FO. I want the Blue Jays to win a World Series. The Jays were super close in 2015 and 2016. Miss those days for sure! JESUS CHRIST!!! lmfao
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Yeah, this is a really false narrative they want to make. There’s a tiny fraction at best that want to see the Jays fail, so they can fuel some comments here. The thing of it is, it’s not like this season that’s the worry, it’s the 5 year outlook. I don’t think that was too much of a concern last year but now it’s like the terrible reality you’re about to do a 5 year stint in the pen. Not the baseball kind Sss...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Varsho 1752 PAs and 97 career wRC+ bat. Thats what he is. About league average. With his D thats valuable, especially when in CF. Unless he establishes a large sample size of something lesser or greater thats what we should expect from him. Yeah, correct. That's his floor, numbnuts said he's an 85 wRC+ player, he's incorrect.
Big_Walleye Verified Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Small walleye is where its at, yum For eating yes. The big ones are for taking pics and returning them to the lake. Have a good one.
Big_Walleye Verified Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Turning point yesterday? Or a little blip on the radar? Hopefully Manoah can give some quality innings today since the bullpen arms are tired. Too much to ask? I'd like to see him be the intimidator again. The kinder gentler Manoah isn't quite as good IMO. Have a good one.

The_DH Verified Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Here's a question: if Teoscar can fix Vladdy in 10 minutes (or less) of conversation, then what are Mattingly, Martinez, Hague and whoever doing????
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Here's a question: if Teoscar can fix Vladdy in 10 minutes (or less) of conversation, then what are Mattingly, Martinez, Hague and whoever doing???? Sometimes you gotta hear from your friends and not your co-workers/manager?? Who knows.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 So can Manoah’s stuff play moving forward? Probably requires good command but the 4 pitch mix anchored by a strong fastball could work I think. He increased his change up usage a ton. Probably a good idea against lefties.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Martinez with his 10th homer of the year. I find it interesting he was playing 3rd today.

MikeM3 Verified Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Damn we have the lowest bat speed in the league
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Damn we have the lowest bat speed in the league Below the White Sox!! Damn, indeed.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Damn we have the lowest bat speed in the league Goes to show you why the team struggles so much against high velo... Can't be late on the fastball, yet guys like Springer and Varsho can't hit a fastball.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 (edited) Goes to show you why the team struggles so much against high velo... Can't be late on the fastball, yet guys like Springer and Varsho can't hit a fastball. It could be they're waiting too long to start the swing and ending up taking too many rushed swings instead of smooth ones. I'd also like to know which players are the ones bringing it down. I definitely suspect Springer to be towards the bottom of the list. Edit: just looked it up on Savant, Turner has the slowest average bat speed. Vlad has the highest. For all Jays with 100 swings or more only 2 have above MLB average bat speed. Vlad 75.5, Varsho 73.1. Springer is right at about league average 71.2. The three lowest... Turner, Clement, IKF at 65.4, 66.4 and 67.2 respectively Dropping it the 50 swings....still only Vlad and Varsho are above average. Have to take it all the way down to 25 swings as the bar to get Barger on there just behind Vlad and Vogelbach at 71.4 Edited May 13, 2024 by John_Havok
