jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 Don’t worry guys when we win tomorrow and walk out of the Trop with a split we will all feel a lot better Gausman on the bump, so lets hope for a series split. Bet the Jays for today!
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 Permaban... chicken shits... The trolls come out again with a bunch of new accounts. Plus the usual dipshits. I honestly don't get it? This Jays team seems...I dunno, divided? The type of players that they keep bringing in and the type of players that are "home grown" seem very different. My background is upper level cooperate management and my opinion is this team has multiple agendas. From the outside it feels like the moved out a lot of Vlad people and brought in a lot of Bo people. Buddy just put them on the ignore list if it bothers you this much
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 Gausman on the bump, so let’s hope for a series split. Bet the Jays for today! Sure is nice to have a legitimate ace
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 Anyone know where to find Ross Atkins' Oct 7 press confernece? after the loss to the twins? I have been searching for a good hour and can only find clips - not the entire press conference.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 The game today showed off the fun side of the 2024 Jays Having Clement and Schneider in the fold from day 1 changes everything. And in a few weeks, Jansen and Votto will massively upgrade the bench. Remember last year, the opening day bench? Biggio, Espinal, Lukes. Puuuuuke.

It's actually a legitimately deep roster with a lot of multi-position pieces. Or it will be when Jansen is back to replace the only black hole on the roster.

Or it will be when Jansen is back to replace the only black hole on the roster. + most of the injury callups will be fun too. Orelvis, Barger, Tiedemann, Yariel, even Horwitz. The only foreseeable annoying things will be: - Manoah inexplicably bumping Francis from the rotation in late April - Ernie Schneider not getting enough starts

Or it will be when Jansen is back to replace the only black hole on the roster. Is it? Jansen will help, I can see the lineup being good against lefties. But I think the bottom part of the lineup will be a black hole in most other games. The rotation has almost no margin for error. We have no reason to have faith in White, Francis might be okay for a start here and there on an emergency basis but I don't want to have to rely on him. Ricky T is young with not a lot of innings under his belt to come in and carry a load. We are basically relying on Mahoah not sucking and the rest of the guys suffering no significant injuries or backslide in performance. We were extremely lucky last year and we're hoping to be extremely lucky again this year with the rotation. I think we're pushing our luck.

I know, the Yankees could really be in trouble despite their early sweep of the Astros. I know, the Astros could really be in trouble especially after their early sweep at the hands of the Yankees. I know, the Rangers could..... ......

But how many teams have a better 6/7/8/9/10 than Manoah/Tiedemann/Rodriguez/White/Parsons? That seems like really solid rotation depth to me.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 While there looks to solid depth the bottom of the lineup is still pretty weak. Varsho Kirk Kk Ernie/IKF Biggio I mean if Kirk and Varsho dont improve upon last year thing get pretty ugly. If Votto can get healthy and Turner is passable at 3rd base that lengthens the lineup and it doesn’t look quite as bad.

It's not even ugly. Varsho is not great at a #5 hitter, that one is obvious, but he's not a total zero with the stick. KK is also not a total zero, especially for a good CF, and the Jays have pinch hitters with power or platoon players for him. You can't put Ernest P. Clement on a list and say it's ugly, c'mon. Kirk should be solid. Biggio is off to a good start and as a platoon hitter he's fine. He does some stuff. So I think the ugliness is limited to a couple of points: - Varsho hitting too high. Lack of a proper #5 hitting LHB, basically. - IKF playing a lot. Everything other than the above two facts is just being a Debbie Downer. Sure if the players play bad the lineup is bad but what's the point of saying that
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 If they start Ernie at 3B, Schneider in LF, and use IKF/KK as backups, then that’s the optimal way to use the current roster. You could also use DS at 2B and keep KK in the OF depending on the matchup. I just don’t think the Jays can afford to give the bulk of everyday PA’s to defense first guys when it’s unclear how the rest of the lineup is going to hit. IKF is really bad offensively and hoping for one last league average offensive year from KK might be asking too much. Both as bench players would be the ideal setup, but I doubt that would even be a consideration unless their performance dictated it.

Sure if the players play bad the lineup is bad but what's the point of saying that Well yeah that’s my point.. varsho should be hitting like 7th/8th but instead he’s 5th. I actually like Biggio and he’s fine as a number 9 hitter but IkF is a terrible hitter, KK isn’t a number 7 hitter etc.. Varsho has basically been a league average bat and then you have Kirk (who I think it’s fair to question what type of hitter he is) and 3 below average bats in a row. That can also take the pressure off a SP as they navigate towards the bottom of the lineup (what we say in games 2 and 3)
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 This just in - Danny Jansen isn't dead either and he swings a good stick. You can get Danny and Kirk in the lineup if you put Turner at 3rd v. LHP
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 Bichette out again with a neck injury. Hopefully its just a couple games and not a recurring thing.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 New unofficial but official board rules: 1. polluting any thread with personal attacks = a ban, especially if they are barbed insults that relate to someone on a personal level (their income, race, etc.) 2. every time someone complains about Spanky, Spanky gets another get out of jail free card. and they stack. 3. rule #1 does not apply if you are making fun of connorp. he is fair game. Reminder that the mods are under no obligation to be perfect or even impartial.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 It’s not Debbie Downer to go into the season really concerned on what Kirk, Clement, Varsho, and IKF really are. Well IFK not hitting should be a given. But they're combining for less than a .500 OPS. So if one wants to continue to see the glass full, by all means, but it’s not the high ground. Biggio is what he is. Platoon 100 wRC+ bat which is a step above useless, but it’s just annoying when he goes on a heater and people start talking about his potential 6 years in
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 My personal attack on Spanky got left on the cutting room floor it seems. I hope you saw it though Spanky. Be flattered you were my last thought before bed
