Kirk's lack of hitting has been one of the biggest disappointments this year and had made the Varsho trade feel even worse so far

wRC+ down from 129 last season to 84 this season

And you can't even really platoon him at DH with Belt cause he's only hitting .217 against lefties

I just don't get what happened to him but for the rest of this season at least I want a better right hand bat at DH

OK except after I type that I look up Moreno and see that he's now at a 77 wRC+ for the season and only worth 0.3 fWAR thanks predominantly to a 0.77 ISO

In Kirk's last 524 plate appearances dating back to last season, he is hitting .249/.334/.323 (91 WRC+) with a .074 ISO. People waiting for him to magically turn back into what he was in the first half of 2022 are likely going to be disappointed. He's been a noodle bat singles hitter for over a year now, which isn't a good combination with being dirt slow and out of shape.

In other words, yes, extend Danny Jansen. That shouldn't even be a debate within the organization at this point. Just figure out a number that makes sense for both sides and get it done.

I think we need another SP. To many variables with Ryu. Kickuchi has never shown he can be good in the 2nd half. We had one good start from Manoah against Detroit. That is all assuming no injuries to a current SP.

We need depth to even make it to the playoffs... Then we can worry about needing only a few SPs.

Jansen finds himself in a very good bargaining position but you have to get it done

Another starter would be nice but until there is injury where would you even stash this extra starter? Arms like Francis could be sent down, but once Green and Ryu are ready available roster spots would be in short supply at that point.

If you can make a trade for another SP or a good RH bat you pick a SP? Or you want both.

Cause a good RH bat seems like the biggest necessity

I truly think we could do both if we target guys in their FA year or with large salaries.. Basically use assets for SP and $$$ for a RHH. We might have to eat the cost of some other s*** contract.. However, that is how I think we will have to compete at the deadline.

We don't have the assets to go H2H against Baltimore, Tampa etc. Our strength I believe, is that we can take on $ they can't.

Yeah, trade deadlines look more an more like financial deadlines in recent years.

Take any team who is out of it and wants to shed pending free agents to save money. Any team trading for those guys knows full well they’re only getting maybe 200PAs or …maybe 10 starts or less out of a starter…maybe a couple more if they do get into the playoffs. Some of the guys being traded will have…4…5…6 million left on their contract to the end of the season.

As the buying team, why would I give up any prospect of real value if I’m also taking on the money?

The White Sox seem to be gradually accepting that this isn’t their year. A miserable 8-21 start in March and April put them in a bad spot out of the gate. They managed to stay afloat by going 15-14 in May and then 13-13 in June, keeping them near contention in a weak American League Central division. But they slid a bit further recently, going 2-6 in July prior to the All-Star break. Their overall record of 38-54 has them eight games back in the division and even further back in the Wild Card race.

As of about a month ago, it was reported that they were hoping to limit their upcoming summer sell-off to just rental players. But reporting from yesterday indicates they have widened that stance, now willing to trade just about anyone on the roster apart from Luis Robert Jr., Dylan Cease, Andrew Vaughn and Eloy Jiménez

We don't seem to match up well with the Chi Sox

They have mostly LH bats other than the players they want to keep

Might have been interested in Sheets but he's been abysmal. And I don't trust that Tim.Anderson just needs a change of scenery - it looks much worse than that.

They're trading guys on their last year, nothing else. And the Jays need a pen arm and a rental RHB.

In the biggest news of the day a team announces they want to keep their young/cheap/promising players while trading their old expensive underperforming veterans.

Yeah nothing surprising there. Given the amount of holes on that team they'd likely be wise to at least consider trading Robert given the king's ransom they could demand in return. I'd sell the farm for that dude without a second thought.

Why would the White Sox even want to keep Eloy Jimenez? A 26 year old DH-only who gets injured all the time can only become less valuable the longer you hold on to him. And he's not even left handed to give him a small boost in value.

Yeah he's the perfect guy to move at the deadline. Some GM looking to make a deadline splash would likely overpay for him.

Connor Joe (Pirates), cheap (pre Arb even though he's 30) lefty masher who grades a strong defender at 1B and both corner OF. Low salary bench upgrade that shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

Get them to throw in one of their optionable fringe starters on top of it.

I was thinking a late inning pen arm as well but the problem is who do you ditch , assuming all are healthy? Pearson to aaa? Cut white loose? I’d see a union grievance if it is garcia with his vesting option based on appearances/ip.

For that reason, I think Green will be considered the rp we add when he comes off dl.

Romano

Richards

Mayza

Pearson

Garcia

Swanson

Green

White

Mozeliak - “We’re going to trade people.”

Love this kind of in-depth quote.

I feel like Tyler O'neill might be a decent buy low platoon bat the Jays could roll the dice on that won't cost that much.

By not costing much, what do you mean?

I don't think they move him. Under control for 2024 and won't be expensive. They are trying to re-tool for 2024 and not do a full rebuild.

Cards will try to move:

Montgomery, Flaherty, Stratton, Hicks, DeJong

Cards may try to move the contracts of, or get big value for, these higher $ players:

Mikolas, Gallegos, Matz, Contreras, Arenado, Goldschmidt

Not likely to move Arenado and Goldschmidt, though.
