Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Mitch Bannon @MitchBannon Mitch White (elbow) made his first rehab start in single-A tonight: 3.1IP 3H 0ER 2K 0BB Up to 94.8 MPH with the fastball #BlueJays You can’t glean much from the stats, but the velocity is good to see. That's right in line with his norm.

Governator Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 I never thought I'd see this stat this season. I hope real Manoah shows up Friday too Blue Jays starters have allowed five runs over 52 1/3 innings in their past eight games.

It says he threw 94.8 mph. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed?date=4/26/2023&gamePk=730147&chartType=pitch&legendType=pitchName&playerType=pitcher&inning=&count=&pitchHand=&batSide=&descFilter=&ptFilter=&resultFilter=&hf=playerBreakdown&sportId=14#730147

They have 30 days before he has to be added to 40 man roster, he's also out of minor league options. So they either have to bring him up or DFA him after 30 days.

Curious to see what the Jays do in the pen? We have Green, Ryu, Cimber on DL. Who else has options?

They're not going to designate him, he moves in as our LR/Swingman when needed.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Mitch White will be on this team, whether in the bullpen or rotation. They won't let him go for nothing!

keggy Verified Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 We're one injury away from having Casey Lawrence starting major league games for us. Losing White is not going to happen.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 It’s good to see that they are bonding over actual sustenance like food instead of shoveling drinks down his throat every night like they did last year.

Not sure about that if he is out of options. They see potential but they are in win now mode. If he gets lit up and cant even give them decent quality IP he will be gone like donkey kong. Just like Buntoyo last year. 1 day he be gone.

Are you just looking at his ERA for 2 months as a Jay last year? Because up until that point he had a career era under 4 as a swingman. They'd probably keep him over someone like Bass.

The Jays have no SP depth beyond their starting 5, and Schneider is going to run RP’s into the ground if he doesn’t get a long man to give him length out of the pen. White will have a role here. Bass is likely gone soon, and either Pop/Pearson probably going down due to their options.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Mitch White f***ing sucks but when the alternatives are Casey Lawrence and Drew Hutchison you’re kinda f***ed.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 The Jays seem to have a fair bit of success taking pitchers like White and helping them find success and help the team. Then they move on and can't sustain what they found here. Steven Matz, Robbie Ray, we're seeing it with Stripling now potentially.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 You need guys like Mitch White on the roster. Every arm in the Jays starting rotation won't make 32 starts each.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 White will be on the roster no doubt its really a question who comes off. Pearson and Pop will both have to pitch well between now and that decision. Bass would have to continue to suck and both of those guys pitching well to be DFA’d.

I'm not saying he will be gone based on 2 months as a Jay. Thats SSS. I'm saying if he doesn't produce this year he will be gone. Now he coming back from IL. Bass is in the same boat. He came over with high hopes. Board loved the move as his SL was so dominant last year. But he has pretty much sucked for us. If he turns it around he will stick and if he doesn't they will DFA him. White only got 150 MLB IP - FIP under 4. BB and K rates meh. I hope he can find it and help us. We'll need decent innings chewed up. They obviously thought he could do this and thats why they got him. I just dont think the leash is going to be very long. My point is the team is in win now mode - they will always have an eye on future control - but I think they will be pretty ruthless.

Given how popcorn and Bass go hand in hand now, it would be funny if he lost his job to someone named Pop.
harvey16 Verified Member Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Once Green and Ryu are ready to go, we are gonna have some big decisions to make, it's nice to know that we at least have some depth to weather any injuries down the stretch. Green and Ryu will be a big boost to our pitching staff.

I think Bass pitched about as well as we could have expected when he came over last year. Bass and Pop for Groshans seems like it's a huge win for the team. Will this years' version of Bass be more of 2019-2021 version? Perhaps. We may have to take that risk and DFA him before we'd like to.

Getting 2 functional pen arms, even if they are just average and holding spots until someone elite takes them away, is good.
