This goes to show that the team doesn't have the pen that could close out a game starting in the 6th inning against an elite team like the Dodgers. Roster construction is the issue here more than anything.

Despite Swanson getting BABIP'd to hell in the nightmare ninth inning, the Jays bullpen this series pitched 13.1 innings with an ERA of 3.37. Take that one unlucky inning away and they were damn near perfect. Include that inning and they were still pretty good against the elite Dodgers.

I expect a sincere handwritten apology to both the posters of this esteemed message board as well to the members of the Toronto Blue Jays bullpen. They most certainly didn't deserve all the slander you've been levying against them this week.

Kudos to John putting Davis in the 3 spot after only his 2nd game. Gotta give the man credit where credit is due.

Good move from Johnny

At some point there will only be enough room on this team for one Schneider.

Pulling any pitcher for Yimi Garcia is indefensible. It seems like he blows the game every f***ing time he comes in. He's the least reliable pitcher in our bullpen and it makes me sick that we have to watch him for another year now.

Just make sure babe rots on the pine

And note that for the Orioles it was Westburg that got the big hit... Basically the Os equivalent of Schneider except he plays more.

was Montoyo ever this bad geez

Montoyo missed the playoffs with Vlad and Semien finishing 2/3 in MVP voting and Ray getting the Cy Young. Yes, he was terrible.

enough wins to get in today with the additional WC team

I hope Schneider stops using Yimi Garcia to put out fires in the 5th or 6th innings. He should be at the bottom of the BP depth charts and used to start a clean inning. I would have rather seen Richards in that spot or maybe trying to get Kikuchi through that inning. Jays pulled it off which is the most important. But scary to start relying on the bullpen from the 5th inning on in a WC series especially when this lineup struggles to score. You can't do this every night in a WC series or else by Game 3, you've burned through your bullpen.

Hasn't yimi been solid for about 2-3 months now after a s***** start??

yeah

he wasn't even "bad" at the start he was just ERA unlucky

xFIP in the first half was under 3.00 but his ERA was 4.66

buttttttttttttttttttt he is probably maybe kind of "hittable" given how many strikes he throws and the shape of his fastball so I dunno. ERA vs DIPS may not tell the whole story.

I am sure the Jays analytics continue to define him as very good and that's why he keeps getting the ball in medium leverage despite the anecdotal failures.

Schneider is bad. Montoyo was worse.

Counter point, Maybe the advanced analytics department (who let's be honest is making/fueling many of the call) and advanced scouts are bad. Ever notice how often a pitcher they haven't seen carves them up?

It's fair to question the advanced analytics department with respect to offensive output but at the same time they deserve a lot of credit towards how good the team has been on the run prevention side of things.

Yeah I don’t think he’s bad. But Regardless, he’s probably the worst arm in the pen at the moment so he really shouldn’t be pitching in a tight game unless absolutely necessary.

Romano

Swanson/Hicks

Mayza

Richards

Cabrera

Garcia

Francis

Seems like the current pecking order. The spot Garcia was brought into last night was pretty egregious. If you have to use him, give him a clean inning against the bottom half of the lineup.

Also, pretty crazy to think that Garcia was basically our 2nd or 3rd best guy last year, pitching the 7th/8th usually.

When Green is added to the pen Garcia will be the 7th best guy. Pretty remarkable.

Also Cimber nowhere to be found. Complete overhaul from last season.

Poor Kikuchi gets yanked way to early.

Ehh idk he didn’t look so hot that inning he was pulled. Wasn’t fooling anyone with the slider anymore

Richards bouncing back from a rough year last year and becoming a high leverage K guy has been a nice surprise.
